Does George Washington – Owes Library Fines, about $100,000 in Late Fees?

According to the website Lowering the Bar  President George Washington has been accused by a New York Library for failing to return valuable library materials checked out during his presidency. It seems the former President  took out two books on in October of 1789, one  on international law and another that contained transcripts of debates in Britain’s House of Commons.  The books were due back November 2, 1789.  If it’s found to be true, that neither book was ever returned this would mean that , setting aside the value of the items themselves, and adjusting for inflation, Washington currently owes about $100,000 in late fees.

Crowds come out for 2nd Annual Yo Mama’s Craft Fair in Downtown, Jersey City

new-billy-kirkAccording to their website  Not Yo Mama’s Craft Fair started last year with an idea and acted upon by Sophie Penkrat, Megan Gulick and Leah Siegel- Picus.

The second annual fair was held yesterday On Saturday April 17 to entusiastic crowds  and  over 60 artists  selling  7500 or more items at Parlay Studio’s 161 2nd St., Downtown Jersey City.  Everything from  jewelry, leather goods, soaps, furniture, cakes, leather bags, paintings  and many other items were on display and being sold.

The doors opened at 11am and the event  ran until 6pm.

Besides the vendors, live entertainment was provided by  Kelly St. Patrick, Hezekiah Jones, Any Day Parade, Chrisitan Alessi, Land of the Look Behind

A portion of yesterday ‘s fair proceeds will go to Arts to Grow a non -profit organization which is dedicated to providing inner city children with a chance to explore the visual, literary and performing arts

Presenting sponsors of yesterday’s event was the Saffron, Boutique Realty and Michael Anthony’s.

This is the magic that is contained in Songs From the Concrete…the powerful new debut ep by singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Chrissi Poland.

While her searing and soulful voice is her primary instrument, Chrissi is the consummate musician and is adept at piano, guitar and drums. She is currently performing music from the new ep at many of NYC’s hottest venues including Le Poisson Rouge, The Living Room, The Rockwood Music Hall, City Winery and The Metropolitan Room. A 13 year old Croatian girl who was in a coma for 24 hours awoke and was able to communicate in fluent German, but  not in Croatian . Her parents said she has been studying German but cannot understand how she can speak it as fluently as she does. Doctors are baffled.

crosswalk20signJersey City Police Chief Tom Comey announced this week that as part of a campaign to enforce the new Pedestrian Crossing Law which took effect on April 1st, the new law requires motorist to do a full stop and remain stopped until the pedestrian passes and no longer just yield for the  pedestrian, Jersey City Police will be looking for drivers in Jersey City who fail to obey the new law. April 24 Luncheon Will Benefit the Nonprofit, Autism New Jersey; HCCC Professor Salim Bendaoud, a Neurosciences Specialist and Parent of an Autistic Child, Will Deliver the Keynote Address

 JERSEY CITY, N.J. – New Jersey has the distinction of having the highest autism rate in the country, and while awareness of autism spectrum disorders is growing, it is happening very slowly.

To provide area residents with more information on autism spectrum disorders, and to raise funds for New Jersey’s largest non-profit autism network, Hudson County Community College’s Beta Alpha Phi chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society will hold a luncheon, “Raise Your Fork Against Autism,” on Saturday, April 24 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The event will be held in the College’s Culinary Arts Institute/Conference Center, 161 Newkirk Street – just two blocks from the Journal Square PATH Station in Jersey City. Tickets for the event are available at $45 each – $23 of which is tax deductible. (Checks should be made payable to the Hudson County Community College Foundation.) christ-hospital-logo(Jersey City, N.J.) – The Christ Hospital School of Radiography is now accepting applications for enrollment. The School of Radiography, located at 176 Palisade Avenue in Jersey City, offers a 24-month educational program consisting of theory and clinical education.

Students enrolled in the school acquire the skills and knowledge to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) examination to become licensed radiographers.  Radiographers assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of disease and injury, and can find employment in hospitals, clinics and imaging centers.
