In 2024, a German artist who worked in Munich’s Pinakothek der Moderne Museum decided to hang his own painting in the permanent collection. He was fired for drilling two holes in the wall. We get it though, don’t we. Pro Arts artists experiment with new ideas and want people to see what they’re doing. Artists enter juried exhibitions and hope to be accepted. They participate in portfolio reviews and listen for positive remarks. They try their best to accidentally bump into curators, gallery owners, and critics. They join arts organizations! Artists think what they do deserves to be seen. Now is your chance to see a piece that Pro Arts members have chosen for the ART150 Gallery for most of July through mid-August.

Jersey City Announces Fourth of July Festival & Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks® Viewing Celebration at No Cost to the City 

Day-long festival, free concert series, and prime fireworks viewing made possible through generous sponsor support 

Mayor James Solomon and the City of Jersey City today announced details for the city’s Fourth of July celebration for America’s 250th birthday, featuring a day-long festival on Montgomery Street, a four-part free concert series across the city’s parks, and some of the best vantage points in the region to watch the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks®, beginning approximately at 9:25 PM over the Lower Hudson River. Details can be found at JCNJ.org/July4. 

This year’s full slate of festivities is made possible entirely through sponsorship support, at no cost to Jersey City taxpayers. The City is deeply grateful to Macy’s, the Exchange Place Alliance, Kean Jersey City, and the U.S. Army for their generous contributions, which fund the full celebration.

After being sworn into office on July 1, Mayor Sharon Ashe-Nadrowski said in her inaugural address that her mayoralty would bring “a new beginning, a fresh start, and a chance to make things right.”  Speaking in the swearing-in ceremony at Bayonne High School, Mayor Ashe-Nadrowski said that becoming the first female mayor “was not about me.”  Rather, she said, it is “about the future of Bayonne.” 

        Mayor Ashe-Nadrowski decried what she called “out-of-control development” and changes in the character of Bayonne’s neighborhoods.  In response to those trends, she pledged to begin a new master plan process to develop new zoning for Bayonne “with extensive public participation.”   Mayor Ashe-Nadrowski said that decisions should be made by “the people who live here” and not by “special interests.”  She called for a new master plan that would reflect “the wants, needs, and values of our community.”  In the coming weeks, she pledged to sponsor a new ordinance that would prohibit data centers in Bayonne.

        Mayor Ashe-Nadrowski promised improved litter removal and street maintenance, and asked for the public’s cooperation in achieving cleaner streets.  “All must do their part,” she said.  The new mayor said the City Administration plans to restore the enforcement of property maintenance codes.  Mayor Ashe-Nadrowski advocated having a city that “looks and feels cared for.” 

        The mayor called for “transparency and accountability” and for government that “listens and takes action.”

        The five City Council Members were also sworn into office.  Each one made brief remarks at the ceremony.

        First Ward Council Member Gene Perry thanked his mother for raising him with good values.  He thanked family members for coming to the event from New York and Virginia.

        Second Ward Council Member Melissa Godesky-Rodriguez thanked people for believing in her.  She expressed gratitude to her husband and son.  She called for “building a community where every child has an opportunity to thrive.”

        Third Ward Council Member Tommy Gillen expressed his feeling that, “Everyone present means the world to me.” He said that he was “honored and humbled” by his election to office.  Council Member Gillen added, “I hear you and I’m ready to serve.”

        Council Member At-Large Mariam Salama thanked her family, friends, and pastor.  She said that she was “ready to serve the city the way it deserves to be served.” 

        Council Member At-Large Mark Bottino said that he was “overwhelmed” by his election, and that he was “so glad that my whole team got here.”  In four years, he promised, Bayonne would be “a better town.”

        During the inaugural ceremony, the new City Council held its first meeting.  In that session, the Council Members elected Melissa Godesky-Rodriguez the new City Council President.  They approved Mayor Ashe-Nadrowski’s nominations of Andrew Casais for Business Administrator, James Ashe for Public Safety Director, J.P. Egan for Municipal Services Director, and Alicia Losonczy for Acting Director of Planning, Zoning, and Development.  The Council also voted to approve four nominations for members of the Planning Board: Steve Rhodes, Michael O’Connor, Brian Beebe, and Council Member Mariam Salama. 

        The Council Members voted to move the next City Council caucus from July 8 to July 15 at 6:00 p.m. They also voted to reschedule the next City Council meeting from July 15 to July 22 at 6:00 p.m.

        At the ceremony, City Clerk Madelene Medina administered the oaths of office to Mayor Ashe-Nadrowski and the City Council Members. Clerk Medina also presented each of them with certificates of election.

This July 4th, New York Harbor becomes the stage for one of the largest maritime celebrations in modern history. Stars, Stripes & Sails invites guests to Pier 14 in Hoboken for front-row views of the Sail4th 250th Parade of Tall Ships celebrating America’s Semiquincentennial.

• This event is intended for viewing the Parade of Ships, which will run approximately 9:30 AM – 2 PM based on the official Sail4th 250th organizers

• Fireworks visibility from Pier 14 will likely be very limited

• Guests may stay on the pier until approximately 10 PM

• This is a BYO event — bring your own food, beverages, and seating

• Porta potties will be available on-site

This special event serves as a fundraiser for the Hoboken Historical Museum.

HOBOKEN, N.J. — In a stretch of hockey that will be talked about for years in the locker rooms and arenas of Hudson County, the Hoboken Rockets organization accomplished something extraordinary: three separate championship titles across three different leagues and venues, all earned within the same 2024–2025 season — and all recognized with official Proclamations issued by the Hudson County Board of County Commissioners. The Hoboken Red Rockets, competing in the American Dream Hockey League; the Hoboken White Rockets, claiming the Smythe Division title at The Icehouse in Hackensack; and the Hoboken White Rockets Patrick Division squad, also victorious at The Icehouse — each raised a banner, and each received the formal commendation of Hudson County Commissioner Anthony L. Romano Jr.

Behind it all stands Roger J. Muller Jr. — founder, Team Captain, General Manager, and Coach of the Hoboken Rockets since 1991. A Hoboken native, insurance executive, and lifelong athlete, Muller has spent more than three decades building one of the most decorated amateur hockey organizations in the northeastern United States. His co-captain across multiple teams, Vasili Karalewich of River Vale, has been a cornerstone of the Rockets’ championship runs.

Red Rockets Conquer American Dream — Winter 2025

The Hoboken Red Rockets entered the Winter 2025 playoffs of the American Dream Hockey League as the definition of a long shot. With a 4–8 regular-season record, they barely qualified for postseason play. What happened next was the kind of turnaround that makes amateur hockey so compelling.

Rallying with resilience, discipline, and teamwork, the Red Rockets reeled off three consecutive playoff wins and claimed the championship game at The Arena at American Dream in East Rutherford, defeating Momma’s Boys by a decisive 3–0. It was a championship that no one saw coming, and one that no one on the roster will ever forget.
