The phrase “Bayonne vs. Everyone” will ring true on September 13th when Bayonne residents come out to welcome our hometown team with a procession honoring “The Boys from Bayonne.”

Bayonne Little League and the City of Bayonne Recreation Division will hold a procession with floats to honor the hometown players and coaches who participated in the 2026 Little League World Series. The event will take place in Bayonne on Sunday, September 13, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Mayor Sharon Nadrowski said, “The City of Bayonne is extremely proud of our World Series heroes.  We welcome this opportunity to honor the first team in Bayonne history that competed in a Little League World Series.”

            The procession will consist of two floats for the players and the coaches.

            Starting location: The procession will gather at 30^th Street and Avenue C in Bayonne at 10:30 a.m.

            Procession route: The procession will move eastward down 30^th Street from Avenue C to Broadway.  Then the floats will turn right onto Broadway. The procession will move southward down Broadway from 30^th Street to 5^th Street. Then the floats will turn right, going west on 5^th Street until reaching Avenue C.  After that, the floats will drive south down to 1^st Street.   The procession will turn right on 1^st Street and will proceed westward to the Little League facility at 1^st Street and Kennedy Boulevard. A ceremony will take place at the Little League facility.

 Hudson County Community College will hold a 9/11 Memorial on Friday, September 11, 2026 at 2 p.m. The commemoration will include special presentations, a discussion, and aa screening of the documentary, 9/11 Reclaiming Ground Zero. Stevens Institute of Technology Deputy Chief of Police, Robert DiGenova, will be the keynote speaker. 

The event will feature a keynote address by Robert DiGenova, special presentations and discussions, and screening of 9/11: Reclaiming Ground Zero. 

Twenty-five years after 9/11, remembrances will include adults who grew up without parents, first responders who lost colleagues, and tributes for the fallen. Nearly 3,000 individuals were killed in the 2001 targeted attacks at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and United Airlines Flight 93. Those lost forever include 900 New Jerseyans, of whom 155 were from Hudson County. In the aftermath, the United States has reshaped national security, foreign policy, and civilian life.

Each year, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation sponsors a five-kilometer run to honor the sacrifice of Firefighter Stephen Siller on September 11, 2001. On that day, following the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, Stephen Siller strapped on sixty pounds of equipment and rushed on foot through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the twin towers of the World Trade Center.  It was there that he gave his life while helping others.  He was one of 343 firefighters who perished after responding to the World Trade Center alongside 72 police officers.

Free Kids Fun Run gives children ages 5-12 a chance to join the fight against gun violence

 Hudson County Executive Craig Guy today announced the first-ever Kids Fun Run as part of Hudson County’s 5^th Annual Strides for Safety 5K Against Gun Violence, giving children ages 5 to 12 a free opportunity to run, have fun and stand together with their community against gun violence.

The Kids Fun Run will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, at Lincoln Park in Jersey City. The addition gives families an opportunity to participate together while teaching children the importance of community, safety and looking out for one another.

“The Hudson County Strides for Safety 5K is about coming together as a community to build safer neighborhoods for everyone, and that includes our youngest residents,” said Hudson County Executive Craig Guy. “We’re excited to welcome children ages 5 to 12 to our first-ever Kids Fun Run and give them a chance to be part of this important day. When our children see their parents, neighbors, first responders and community leaders standing together for safer communities, they learn that they have a role to play too. We want every generation to know that building a safer Hudson County is something we do together.”

Now in its fifth year, Strides for Safety brings residents, families, elected officials, law enforcement and community organizations together to raise awareness about gun violence and promote safer communities throughout Hudson County.

The day will continue after the race with a community after-party featuring live music, food and activities for children, giving families and participants an opportunity to celebrate together and keep the spirit of community going beyond the finish line.

September 6 event in Paterson honors five-time Negro Leagues All-Star, Dominican baseball pioneer and scout whose career intersected with Babe Ruth, Jackie Robinson and Martín Dihigo

PATERSON, N.J. — September 1, 2026 — Baseball history, Dominican heritage and community will come together Sunday, September 6, at historic Hinchliffe Stadium for the inaugural Rabbit Martínez Softball Heritage Cup, honoring Negro Leagues All-Star and Dominican baseball pioneer Horacio “Rabbit” Martínez.

Taking place just days before the September 15 start of Hispanic Heritage Month, the event has special significance in Paterson, home to New Jersey’s largest concentration of Dominican residents and one of the nation’s few surviving ballparks associated with Negro Leagues baseball.

The celebration begins at 2 p.m. with the Jersey Jackals’ regular-season finale, followed by a 3 p.m. VIP reception and tour of the Charles J. Muth Museum of Hinchliffe Stadium, featuring Rabbit Martínez memorabilia. At 4:30 p.m., the Heritage Cup will feature the Fort Lee Falcons of Fort Lee against hometown Las Estrellas de Las Hortensias of Paterson, a team composed predominantly of Dominican players.

The Falcons are part of the Fort Lee Adult Co-Ed Softball League, founded and operated by Max Martínez-Almenas, producer of Martinez Béisbol Films and grandson of Rabbit’s brother Antonio “Toñito” Martínez.

“This event connects history with the baseball communities that are still playing the game today,” Martínez-Almenas said. “Rabbit’s legacy is part of Negro Leagues and Dominican baseball history, but it also lives in the communities that continue to love and play the game.”

WHY RABBIT MARTÍNEZ MATTERS

– Negro Leagues Star: A five-time East-West All-Star with the New York Cubans and member of their 1947 Negro League World Series championship team.

– Connected to Baseball’s Greatest Names: Martínez is the only known Dominican professional player to have competed against both Babe Ruth and Jackie Robinson and shared the field with stars including Satchel Paige, Josh Gibson, Buck Leonard, Monte Irvin and Paterson-raised Hall of Famer Larry Doby.

– Martín Dihigo Connection: Rabbit played alongside Cuban Hall of Famer Martín “El Maestro” Dihigo, regarded as one of baseball’s greatest all-around players, with the New York Cubans and in Cuba, where Dihigo also served as his player-manager.

– Player Advocate: In 1950, Martínez helped found FENAPEPRO, an organization representing Dominican professional players that played an important role in the return of professional baseball to the Dominican Republic in 1951 after a 14-year absence.

– Dominican-to-MLB Pioneer: As a New York and San Francisco Giants scout, Martínez helped identify, develop, and sign Juan Marichal, Felipe, Jesús and Matty Alou, and Manny Mota, and many others, helping establish a pathway for generations of Dominican Major Leaguers.

Rabbit was also one of four baseball-playing Martínez brothers, alongside Antonio “Toñito,” Aquiles and Julio “Julito” Martínez, who became prominent figures in Dominican and Latin American baseball from the 1930s through the 1950s.

“This is why we call it a Heritage Cup,” Martínez-Almenas said. “It is about making sure pioneers like Rabbit and his brothers are not forgotten, while giving a new generation the opportunity to understand the sacrifices, achievements and lasting impact of the people who helped shape baseball history.”

A portion of event proceeds will benefit the Charles J. Muth Museum of Hinchliffe Stadium. Families attending will also have an opportunity to receive a commemorative bilingual Rabbit Martínez baseball card, produced in partnership with the New Jersey Jackals, while supplies last.

Online survey now available in multiple languages to gather community input on corridor recommendations and design alternatives

Hudson County Executive Craig Guy announced that Hudson County will host a community meeting on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Hudson County Community College Library located on the 6th Floor of 71 Sip Avenue in Jersey City, as part of the County’s ongoing Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) study.

The meeting will include the presentation of corridor recommendations and concept design alternatives from County staff and consultants. Residents, commuters, and community stakeholders will have an opportunity to learn about the study’s progress, review potential recommendations, and provide feedback to help inform the next phase of the project.

“Public input is an essential part of planning a transit system that works for the people who live, work, and travel throughout Hudson County,” said Hudson County Executive Craig Guy. “This meeting and our online survey give residents multiple opportunities to share what they want to see from the future of bus rapid transit in our communities.”

In addition to the community meeting, Hudson County has launched an online survey to collect input. The survey is designed to capture residents’ travel behaviors, priorities, and preferences and is available in multiple languages, including Arabic, Spanish and Hindi.

Residents are encouraged to participate in the September 23 community meeting and complete the online survey to ensure their voices are part of the BRT planning process.

In January, County Executive Guy secured $150,000 in County funding for a BRT feasibility study examining the potential for bus-prioritization infrastructure along John F. Kennedy Boulevard in Bayonne and Jersey City.

In April, the Hudson County Board of Commissioners unanimously awarded a contract to transportation consulting firm Nelson/Nygaard to conduct the BRT study. The study builds on the County’s efforts to explore improved transit options and safer, more efficient travel along the corridor.

The post HUDSON COUNTY EXECUTIVE CRAIG GUY ANNOUNCES BUS RAPID TRANSIT COMMUNITY MEETING TO BE HELD ON SEPTEMBER 23  first appeared on River View Observer.

            At its meeting on August 12, the Bayonne City Council voted for a resolution to authorize Bayonne to enter into a Regional Shared Services Agreement with Kearny, Jersey City, and Hoboken.  That agreement will allow all four municipalities to work together to address the effects of commercial helicopter operations on their residents.  The specific purpose of the agreement is to coordinate and share the costs of litigation seeking to protect Bayonne residents from adverse health, safety, welfare, and quality-of-life impacts associated with commercial helicopter operations.  The resolution cited such adverse impacts of helicopter operations as excessive aircraft noise and overflights of Bayonne’s residential neighborhoods.  Over the past several months, area residents have complained about noise and other impacts reportedly caused by helicopters that fly over Hudson County municipalities. 

Third Ward Council Member Tommy Gillen said, “The residents of the Third Ward have raised their voices, and I am standing with them.”  He continued, “Our neighborhoods are not a flight path, and this litigation makes that clear.”

Mayor Sharon Nadrowski said, “My administration is focused on protecting, preserving, and improving the quality of life for Bayonne residents.“  She continued, “Entering into this Shared Services Agreement with our partners in government increases our scale, limits our financial exposure, and solidifies our commitment to the health, safety, and welfare of all residents.”

The resolution authorized Bayonne’s financial contribution to the litigation to cover the testimony of expert witnesses. Those witnesses may be needed to testify about the negative impacts of helicopter operations on the four communities participating in the legal action.  The resolution authorized Bayonne’s contribution to the case for an amount not to exceed $10,000.
