Along with Delaney Buffett, the filmmakers are all up-and-comers, many of them grads from local films schools who have had their films screened at the Tribecca Film Festival and other competitions. Every day of the HCCC festival, all five films will be shown. They are:  First Match, directed by Olivia Newman about a determined 14-year-old wrestler who prepares for her first co-ed match. Kid Warrior, directed by Vanessa Black, which follows a teen activist who has taken on major oil companies in the fight against climate change.

New Deep South: Kayla, directed by Rosie Haber – a series that explores the LGBTQ culture emerging in the American South; Run Mama Run, directed by Daniele Anastasion about an elite track athlete who continues to train for the Olympic trials while pregnant; and, Delaney Buffett’s The Spring, about the women of Weeki Wachee Springs mermaid theater.

â€œI’m from South Florida, I grew up there,” Delaney Buffett says. “My parents told me about Weeki Wachee Springs when I was a kid. I remember I was discussing it with my dad. (Delaney’s father is Jimmy Buffett of “Margaritaville” fame.)  I didn’t believe him at first. I went on their website and talked to a couple of friends who made films. We were breaking out, making short-form content and short-form documentaries. My best friend Katie Corwin, and then my other friend, my roommate Chloe Corner and the rest of the crew of women went down there with me and we shot it there.”   Continue reading LIGHTS! CAMERAS! Premiere of Seven Five at NYC IFC CENTER FRIDAY,NOVEMBER 14

For Michael Dowd, being a police officer wasn’t a calling, it was just a job— and, assigned to the 75th Precinct in crime-ridden East New York, not an easy or lucrative one. Seizing the opportunity to profit, he stole money from drug dealers, eventually recruiting his partner into an expanding criminal ring. Their 1992 arrest exposed widespread corruption in the NYPD. Weaving together Dowd’s revelatory testimony from the investigation, dramatic surveillance footage and interviews with the primary players, The Seven Five tells his incendiary tale.

WORLD PREMIERE OF THE JERSEY DEVIL HITS JERSEY CITY

Comedy film presented by the Jersey City International Television and Film Festival.

Jersey Devil Jersey City, NJ – The Jersey City International Television and Film Festival, Humanity Pride Productions, Green Light Films and Diamond Jesus Productions have announced that the World Premiere of the comedy film The Jersey Devil will be Wednesday, September 24th at the Loews Landmark in Jersey City. For tickets, please visit: http://thejerseydevil.brownpapertickets.com/

With the support of the Film Office of Jersey City and the Mayor’s Office, The Jersey Devil was shot throughout Jersey City earlier in 2014. One of the filming locations used was the Landmark Loews, which opened in 1929. This legendary theater continues to hold events today and will bring this Hollywood-style premiere to Journal Square, almost 85 years to the day of its opening. In keeping with Mayor Fulop’s vision of making Jersey City a “mecca” for film production, the creators of The Jersey Devil also utilized diverse neighborhoods throughout the city, including the Brightside Tavern in the Paulus Hook neighborhood, New Jersey City University in Greenville and City Hall. In addition to using NJCU as a location in the film, students attending NJCU were also involved in various aspects of the production. The cast and crew dined throughout the shoot on delicious food supplied entirely by Jersey City food vendors and many Jersey City residents from the surrounding location communities were used as extras in the film.
