SNOW BALL CELEBRATION OF ART

 Art House Productions presents the third annual Snow Ball, a sparkling champagne formal in celebration of Art
House’s innovative arts programs in Jersey City.  This event will raise
funds for Art House Productions’ upcoming theater season, poetry series, music events, classes, publishing projects, and citywide festival, JC Fridays.

The Snow Ball will be held at Art House Productions’ arts space at
Hamilton Square, 1 McWilliams Place, Roof (indoors), Jersey City on
Saturday, January 24th, 2009 from 8pm-12am.  Tickets are $50/$60 at the door, and may be purchased online at www.arthouseproductions.org. Dress is “black tie creative.”

Legislators and Mayors Aid NJ Sharing Network’s PSA Program to Raise Awareness of Organ Donation

New Jersey  (January 5, 2009) – New Jersey Organ and Tissue Sharing Network, Inc. (NJ Sharing Network), which coordinates organ donations with all of New Jersey’s transplant centers, has released public service announcements from more than 30 elected officials to raise awareness of the importance of organ and tissue donation.  

At the recent League of Municipalities convention in Atlantic City, NJ Sharing Network joined with legislators and mayors from across the state to film the PSAs. Jessica Melore, 26, an advocate for organ donation who herself received a life-saving heart transplant when she was 17, also interviewed many of the elected officials who had their own direct experiences with organ donation.

LA FITNESS TO OPEN 45,000 S.F. SPORTS CLUB AT HARTZ MOUNTAIN’S HARMON MEADOW DEVELOPMENT IN SECAUCUS

SECAUCUS, NJ – January 6, 2009 – Hartz Mountain Industries Inc. has announced that LA Fitness, a privately-owned fitness company based in Irvine, California, will open a 45,000 square foot Sports Club in the late fall of 2009 at 450 Harmon Meadow Boulevard, within the mixed use Harmon Meadow development in Secaucus.

            The new Sports Club’s location, at the intersection of Harmon Meadow Boulevard and Park Plaza Drive, is adjacent to a 1,000-space parking garage and is easily accessible to the office tenants and neighborhoods surrounding Harmon Meadow.

The Department of Defense reports that nearly 4,800 American troops have been killed and more than 33,000 have been wounded in Afghanistan and Iraq since both operations started in 2001 and 2003 respectively. For many Americans, the casualties evoke a sense of fleeting sadness that often fades by the end of the evening news. But for the families of our troops, anxiety and fear are constant companions.

Connie McClellan is an intimate acquaintance of heart-stopping fear. She’s received alarming news three times since her son, Marine Lance Corporal John McClellan, deployed overseas. The first two messages came just days apart. Her son was shot two times—in the same arm—in a one week period while serving as a machine gunner in Afghanistan.

HelpLight New Jersey Donates 575 Light Bulbs

Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy, members of the Municipal Council, and HelpLight NJ recently delivered 575 light bulbs on Friday, December 12, 2008 to senior citizens residing at Berry Gardens Community Hall at 92 Danforth Avenue in Jersey City.
HelpLight New Jersey, an organization founded by high school students John Caddock and Matthew Erickson, initially began distributing light bulbs to local food pantries and senior centers.
