SECAUCUS RESIDENT AWARDED US NAVY MEDAL FOR SUPPORT OF HAITI EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS

     

 Dover Business College Instructor Carlos Sanchez (right) receives the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal from Deputy Director, Navy Nurse Corps, Reserve Component, Rear Admiral Cynthia Dullea, for his support of the victims of the January earthquake in Haiti. Mr. Sanchez collected medical surplus from Palisades Medical Center in North Bergen, NJ, where he works as a Senior Surgical Technologist, and donated the supplies to missions orchestrated by the Guardians of Healing and Haitian-American Charitable Alliance organizations. Mr. Sanchez, a resident of Secaucus, NJ, is a 17-year veteran of the US Navy Reserves.

Volunteers Needed for Casa -Helping Children

 Information sessions regarding the program and the role of its volunteers will be held on Tuesday, December 8, 2009

Are you interested in helping children in the foster care system?  If so, Hudson County CASA is currently recruiting volunteers to advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children.  CASA works through trained community volunteers to insure that needed services and assistance are made available to children while helping to move them toward safe and permanent homes. Helping Children -Volunteers Needed for CASA

Hudson County CASA is currently recruiting volunteers from all municipalities in Hudson County to represent foster children in the court system.

 CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocate and its volunteers speak for children in court, serve as fact finders for the judges, and safeguard the interests of the children while they are in the foster care system.

Their next information Session regarding the program and the role of its volunteers will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 from 6:00-7:00pm in Room # 901, in the Hudson County Administration Building at 595 Newark Avenue, in Jersey City. Please utilize the side or rear entrances as the main entrance of the building is locked after 5 p.m.

Hudson County has more than 700 children in foster care and most have been removed from their homes due to abuse and neglect.

Operation CeaseFire Overview
The principle goal is to achieve a substantial impact on youth violence, especially gun violence through a true partnership between law enforcement and prosecutors and community-based organizations, community outreach workers, and neighborhood residents.
