Mercy House Warms Hearts and Hands: 600+ Coats Distributed to Local Families

More than 600 new and gently used coats were distributed across all three Mercy House locations.

Smiles and scarves filled the halls of The Mercy House as more than 600 winter coats and other cold-weather essentials were distributed to people in need during the Archdiocese of Newark’s annual Winter Coat Giveaway from Nov. 3-5 in Jersey City, Newark, and Elizabeth.

Hudson County Community College Foundation 28th Annual Gala Celebrates the College’s 50th Anniversary  

The students and professional faculty chefs of Hudson County Community College’s (HCCC) nationally acclaimed Culinary Arts Institute are creating memorable cuisine and desserts for the HCCC Foundation’s 28thAnnual Gala Fundraiser on Thursday, December 4, 2025.    

Provident Bank will be honored with the HCCC Foundation’s
 Distinguished Service Award. –

Hudson County Community College (HCCC) is celebrating 50 years of preparing students to achieve their dreams and partnering with business leaders and the community to develop groundbreaking programs. 

The HCCC Foundation has announced that it will hold its 28th Annual Gala on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at 6 p.m. The event will take place in the College’s Culinary Conference Center, 161 Newkirk Street in Jersey City, NJ. The evening will highlight five decades of progress in supporting and educating generations of HCCC students. Exceptional cuisine and desserts prepared by the HCCC Culinary Arts program’s chef professors and students will be served. 

The HCCC Foundation will present the 2025 Distinguished Service Award to Provident Bank in recognition of its two decades of support to the College and the HCCC Foundation. Provident Bank was the recipient of the Foundation’s inaugural Distinguished Service Award in 2005.

“We are proud to celebrate the evolution of Hudson County Community College, our Foundation, and our partnerships,” said HCCC President Dr. Christopher Reber. “One of the most important partnerships we have is with Provident Bank. Thanks to their generosity, the lives of hundreds of students have been transformed over the years.” 

Among Provident Bank Foundation’s generous contributions to the College is a $100,000 Education Signature Grant investment that benefited 400 students in the award-winning Hudson Scholars program. Launched in 2021, the nationally recognized program drives student success through proactive academic advisement, financial stipends, high-impact educational experiences, and early academic intervention.

HCCC started as a one-building “contract” college upon its founding in 1974 and today has grown to become one of the largest, most comprehensive colleges in New Jersey with three state-of-the-art locations in Hudson County. Through the years, many thousands of students have said, “Hudson is Home!,” and have graduated and gone on to new successes. HCCC continues to build on its progress, meeting the challenges ahead as Hudson County grows and transforms.

The HCCC Foundation was established in 1997 to support and promote the College and its students by building awareness campaigns and developing financial resources. The Foundation ensures Hudson County residents are allowed to acquire a college education and enjoy the lifelong benefits it provides. The HCCC Foundation generates scholarships for students, seed money for new and innovative programs, stipends for faculty development, capital to assist the College in physical expansion, and resources to address basic needs of students and community members beyond the classroom.

NJ Transit to Take Over Bayonne Broadway Bus

Route Effective December 1, 2025

        

    NJ Transit has advised the City of Bayonne that it will assume operation of the Broadway Bus route in Bayonne effective Monday, December 1, 2025.  Earlier this month, Emil Massa, President of Broadway Bus, advised the community that the private bus company would cease operations.  His company will operate the Broadway Bus route through Sunday, November 30. 

Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis said, “I would like to thank Emil Massa and his predecessors for their long service to the community with the Broadway Bus.  I would also like to thank NJ Transit for taking over the route, so that bus service will continue for the senior citizens, shoppers, students, workers, and others who use the Broadway Bus.”  

According to information provided by NJ Transit, after it assumes management of the Broadway Bus route on December 1, the hours of operation will be weekdays from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and weekends from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Service will be every thirty minutes during those hours of operation.

 Mayor Davis concluded, “Bayonne has a long tradition of being a convenient community with several transportation options.  I am glad that tradition will continue. NJ Transit will now be providing bus service on Broadway, Avenue C, and Kennedy Boulevard, in addition to its Light Rail service with four Bayonne stations.  Soon, New York Waterway will offer ferry service between Bayonne and Manhattan.  The return of ferry service to Bayonne will make our community an even more convenient place in the heart of the metropolitan area.”

NJ Transit is a public transportation corporation that was established by the State of New Jersey in 1979.  NJ Transit began by managing bus lines that had been operated previously by the Public Service Enterprise Group, the parent company of PSE&G.  In 1983, NJ Transit took over several passenger rail lines in the Garden State from Conrail, which wanted to focus on operating freight trains. 

Today, NJ Transit operates bus, commuter rail, and light rail services.

Hudson County Community College 50th Anniversary

 Hudson County Community College (HCCC) will host a special Alumni Networking Event on Wednesday, November 13 as part of the College’s ongoing 50th Anniversary Celebration, Fifty and Forward.

The event will bring together HCCC alumni and community partners for an exciting evening of speed networking and professional connections, featuring tabling from a variety of employers, including PNC Financial Services, Women Rising, Soccer Shots, and others. Participants will have opportunities to expand their networks, explore career interests, and celebrate the accomplishments of their fellow alumni. The newly elected officers of the 2025-2027 HCCC Alumni Association will be announced, and light refreshments will be served.
