MAYOR’S CORNER-CELEBRATING AMERICAN INDEPENDENCE

Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis

Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis Mayor's Corner

This week, we are celebrating the 249th anniversary of America’s Declaration of Independence from Great Britain. This year, our national holiday will be on Friday, July 4. In Bayonne, for the evening of Wednesday, July 2, we have scheduled children’s amusements at 6:30 p.m., a concert at 7:00 p.m., and fireworks at about 9:15 p.m., in DiDomenico-16th Street Park, weather permitting. The rain date is Thursday, July 3, with events at the same times shown for July 2. There are good reasons to celebrate our great country on any or all of those days.

The Beginnings, A Chicago Tribute Band, Will Perform in Summer Sounds Concert on Wednesday, June 25

Chicago Tribute Band In the Beginnings

Mayor Jimmy Davis announced that The Beginnings, a Chicago tribute band, will present hit songs from the 1970s and 1980s in the Summer Sounds by the Bay concert on Wednesday, June 25, at 7:00 p.m.  The group performs in Chicago’s original, classic-era, seven-piece configuration, without the aid of backing tracks or additional musicians.

The concert will take place at the amphitheater on the lower level of DiDomenico-16th Street Park.  The concert site is located below the foot of West 16th Street, between Avenue A and Newark Bay. The Recreation Division encourages audience members to bring their chairs.  No chairs will be provided.

On music days during the summer concert season, in the event of inclement weather, please call 201-471-7590, visit www.leaguelineup.com/bayonnerec, or view the City of Bayonne’s Facebook page to check on the status of that night’s performance.

For more information about the concerts, don’t hesitate to get in touch with Pete Amadeo at 201-858-6129 or email BAYONNEREC@AOL.COM.

On July 2, there will be plenty of attractions for both children and adults.

Jersey City Celebrates Two Major Park Revitalizations Amid Rising National Park Rankings

ParkScore Index Ranks Jersey City Among Nation’s Best for Park Equity and Access

Mayor Steven M. Fulop, the Department of Infrastructure, and the Division of Parks joined community members and local officials today to cut the ribbon at two revitalized neighborhood parks, Pavonia Marion Park and Thomas McGovern Playground, marking another significant step in the city’s commitment to equitable, high-quality open space for all residents.

With a combined investment of more than $2.6 million, the transformative upgrades mark another milestone in the city’s mission to enhance community infrastructure, promote healthy lifestyles, and prioritize environmental sustainability.

“Investments in our parks are investments in our people,” said Mayor Fulop.  “These two renovated parks are prime examples of how we are working together with residents to reimagine our public spaces in a way that is community-driven, environmentally responsible, and future-focused.”

Hudson County Community College Earns Insight Into Academia 2025 ‘Inspiring Programs in STEM’ Award

The Hudson County Community College Cybersecurity Mentoring Program, designed to increase the number of women working in the growing cybersecurity field, earned the 2025 “Inspiring Program in STEM” Award from Insight Into Academia Magazine. Pictured here, an HCCC student and mentor in one of the College’s STEM labs.

The College’s Cybersecurity Mentoring Programs are designed to
close the gender gap, foster innovation, and build an equitable workforce.

“Penelope Garcia” was a hacker-turned-FBI cybersecurity pro in the television drama Criminal Minds. But today, women make up only 20% of the United States cybersecurity workforce. To help reverse this trend, Hudson County Community College (HCCC) devised the Cybersecurity Mentoring Program to recruit and retain women in the HCCC Associate in Science in Cybersecurity degree program, where 19% of the 199 current students are female.
