Work Begins on Bayonne Bridge

Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â The Port Authority advises beginning Monday night, November 11, 2013, on a temporary basis, the Bayonne Bridge will have only one travel lane overnight. The single travel lane will be in effect through Friday, December 20, 2013, to help accommodate construction activities on the bridge.Â A police officer will direct vehicles to advance or halt through the single travel lane at night and in the early morning.Â The traffic will alternate between hold and pull cycles in each direction for fifteen minutes from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., Mondays through Thursdays, and from 12:00 midnight Fridays through 8:00 a.m. Saturdays.Â Â If there is an opportunity for police officers to use shorter time intervals, they will do so. Variable message signs will be posted to advise motorists of the single travel lane.

Mini-Golf Course to Open

Â Mayor Mark A. Smith has announced that the Bayonne Mini-Golf Course will open for the season on Memorial Day weekend â€“ Friday, May 24, from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m., and Saturday, May 25, Sunday, May 26, and Monday, May 27, from 12:00 noon until 9:00 p.m., weather permitting. The Mini-Golf Course will also be open on weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) in June from 12:00 noon until 9:00 p.m. until school gets out for the summer. When the school year is over, the Mini-Golf Course will be open daily, weather permitting, through Labor Day, Monday, September 2.

Â Â Â Â As a child born and raised in Bayonne, Mayor Mark Smith grew up enjoying all that his hometown of Bayonne had to offer. It’s way of life, its schools and the neighborhoods around him. The son of a Bayonne police officer and a nurse at Bayonne Hospital, he was taught to treat people with dignity and respect and to always put others before himself. These values were instilled in him and these are the values that he carries with him today. In retrospect, I’m sure he would’ve never imagined that his future would lead him down a path that would revolve around the future of Bayonne and its residents.

Bayonne Ground-Breaking Ceremony Held for 8th Street Light Rail Extension

Project to extend Hudson-Bergen Light Rail service farther into a new station atÂ 8th Street in Bayonne.

Light Rail Ground-Breaking: At 8th Street in Bayonne, NJ Transit leaders and several federal, state, county, and municipal officials took part in a ceremony that marked the start of construction of the latest Light Rail extension.Â During the next two years, the Light Rail tracks will be extended southward from 22nd Street to 8th Street.Â A viaduct will be built to carry the rail line from 11th Street to 8th Street.Â A new station will be built at 8th Street and Avenue C.Â Completion of the project is expected in 2010.Â (Photo credit: Kimberly Lewis.Â )

On October 15, U.S. Senator Robert Menendez and Congressman Albio Sires
joined NJ Transit Executive Director Richard Sarles and Bayonne Mayor Terrence Malloy to break ground on a project to extend Hudson-Bergen Light Rail service farther into a new station at 8th Street.
