Councilman James Solomon Elected Mayor of Jersey City in Jersey City Run off defeating Ex Governor Jim McGreevey

The December 2nd runoff for Jersey City Mayor, Councilman James Solomon, emerged as the winner, defeating Ex-Governor Jim McGreevey

Solomon served as the Jersey City Council member representing Ward E, downtown Jersey City, and the waterfront area. 2017 until his mayoral win. 

Solomon will be Jersey City’s first new mayor since 2013, when current Mayor Steve Fulop took office.

Fulop decided against a third term and ran for Governor. Fulop lost the race to now Gov.-elect Mikie Sherrill.

Before his time on the City Council, he worked as an aide to former Boston Mayor Thomas Menino and as an adjunct professor at several colleges in New Jersey. 

  • Solomon’s Policy Stances:
    • Housing/Development: He has vowed to take on developers and special interests, ban rent-hiking algorithms, and ensure tenants have a right to legal counsel.
    • Public Safety: He plans to hire 100 new police officers and supports a civilian complaint review board.
    • Education: He has pledged to work with the independent board of education to improve schools and plans to appoint a deputy mayor for education to coordinate between the city and school district.
    • Transparency: He is committed to ending “sweetheart deals” for developers and increasing government transparency.

Once when I was first allowed to vote, I was hesitating on whether or not to go vote because it was raining out and I was told by my dad, “The weather doesn’t care if you need to, or not go to vote; you have to care, and get yourself out there and vote, because a lot of young men and some women fought wars to give you the right to vote.”.Every election day, I think about that tongue-lashing and get myself out to vote.

Jersey City’s runoff election is taking place today, December 2nd, 2025, between James Solomon and Jim McGreevey, and it’s raining out. I wonder how many of you will sit this one out?

Don’t! These two candidates made it to the run-off and deserve your vote. I am not certain who will emerge as Jersey City’s next Mayor, but I trust the judgment of the Jersey City people to do the right thing. And pick the candidate deserving of the job. The people of Jersey City know the issues confronting the City, and the candidates seeking the job.

Mayor’s Corner- Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis-The Film Industry is Growing in New Jersey

          Last week, the New Jersey State League of Municipalities held an important seminar on getting cities and towns ready for the motion picture business.  The City of Bayonne was represented at the event because the 1888 Studios will play a very important role in our community’s future. 

          According to Jon Crowley, Executive Director of the New Jersey Motion Picture and Television Commission, New Jersey “has gone from being the nation’s eighth largest production hub to the fourth busiest domestic location for film and television production.”  From 2023 to 2024, qualified spending on television and film production in New Jersey rose from $592 million to $833 million.  Jon Crowley called that “a phenomenal 41% rise in production.”  In his presentation, Mr. Crowley explained that film crews can find a variety of locations in New Jersey, going from the shore to the mountains in 90 minutes.
