HCCC Art Student-Produced Mural Unveiled at 25 Journal Square’s Student Lounge

On Wednesday, May 12, Hudson County Community College’s Fine Art Department and the Office of Student Activities held an unveiling ceremony of a 4′ x 18′ mural painted specifically for the Student Lounge at 25 Journal Square.

 In addition to the mural reception, the Fine Art Department had the students’ works on view in the Student Art Gallery on the fourth floor at 25 Journal Square.

U.S. Man Arrested in Pakistan for Hunting Osama bin Laden

Garry Brooks Faulkner was arrested in a remote region of Pakistan, telling police that he was personally hunting Osama bin Laden. Garry Brooks Faulkner, 52, of California was arrested on Monday in the Bumburat Valley of Pakistan, near the border with Afghanistan . He had arrived in the region on June 3, marking his third trip to Pakistan in the last 5 years. At the time of his arrest, Faulkner was armed with a pistol, several rounds of ammunition and a 40-inch sword that he said he brought with him from California. Student Innovation Day -Steven’s Institute of Technology and Honeywell

honeywell-1On June 2nd, Honeywell and Stevens Institute of Technology hosted a Student Innovation Day 2010 for Jersey City middle school students. 
Stevens’ graduates, who have successfully used engineering and innovation to design relevant, high-quality products,urged students to think “outside the box” to solve problems and discover solutions to address everyday challenges. honeywell-no-2-jpegSome of the hands – on challenges included designing and building a shock-absorbing system to protect astronauts when they land on the moon. 

Present for Student Innovation Day was  William Hague, Director of Design and Construction, Honeywell and Greg Bartus and Henry Harms, engineering educators  from the Center for Innovation in Engineering and Science Education (CIESE), Stevens Institute of Technology and John Dennan and Patrick Conrad, Stevens graduates, whose innovations in engineering spark interest and enthusiasm in young students.

Taking place at the crossroads of 4th Street, Newark Avenue and Brunswick Street, the event featured an array of local artists’ works, the finest up-and-coming bands New Jersey has to offer, and delicious food from local vendors.

 (Elizabeth, N.J. – March 10, 2010) Leading the way to cleaner air and healthier communities, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey (PANYNJ) unveiled a comprehensive agreement that will cut harmful pollution from the east coast’s busiest port. The states launched a $28 million truck replacement program, partially funded by $7 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which will replace old trucks with vehicles that meet stricter pollution standards.
