Message from Downtown Jersey City Village Neighborhood Association on Delays on Newark Ave. From Brunswick St. to Palisades Avenue.

Beginning today and until mid October, please expect traffic delays on Newark Ave. between Brunswick St. and Palisade Ave. for construction.

Alternate traffic patterns will be set up and motorists may want to plan alternate routes in the area. Crews will be working 24 hours a day.

PSE&G crews will complete the construction of the manhole on Newark Ave. near Dickinson High School by the close of business on Monday, August 13, 2012. Normal traffic will be restored at that time.
A second crew has started trench excavation and conduit installation along Newark Avenue from the bridge over the depressed Conrail track, heading east towards Monmouth Street. Starting today, Monday, August 13, 2012, work along this portion of the route will continue on two (2) shifts (7:00 AM to 5:00 PM and 5:00 PM to3:00 AM). A conduit installation crew will work on the day shift only (7:00 AM to 5:00 PM). Two lanes of traffic will be maintained and managed by the Jersey City Police for the next several days and re-evaluated as work progresses.
The PJM Interconnection, LLC, (PJM), the regional entity responsible for planning the electric transmission system in 13 states and the District of Columbia, identified the need for the NGRP, and assigned design/construction responsibility to PSE&G to ensure reliability of electricity supply within the region.
The targeted completion date is October 15, 2012.

VNA Awarded $295,000 Grant Allocation for Village Park Project

September 14, 2010 by Rob Crow

The Village Neighborhood Association, in collaboration with The Jersey City Parks Coalition, has received the highly sought after recommendation from the Hudson County Open Space Trust Fund Board of Directors and County Executive Tom DeGise for $295,000 of matching funds for the redevelopment of The Village Park on First Street in The Village section of Downtown Jersey City. This is huge!

Throughout the Winter and early Spring of 2010, members of the VNA, The Jersey City Parks Coalition, and Future Green Studios painstakingly compiled and completed the phone-book sized grant application. On April 8, 2010, designer David Seiter (Future Green Studio), Jim Ayers (VNA Vice President), Michele La Monica-Egar (Jersey City Parks Coalition) and myself pitched our formal presentation to the the Hudson County Board of trustees. And then, we waited….

Feast of Holy Rosary A Street Festival with Heart and Spirit- August 11th – August 15th, 2010

front-of-hr-churchLa Festa Italiana 2010:  The Holy Rosary Church organizes this wonderful  street festival, celebrating Italian-American traditions, spirituality, with  evenings of music, dance and authentic Italian foods.

Since I can remember the Holy Rosary Feast has always been a downtown Jersey City tradtion. Holy Rosary was my parish and my family has lived in the Village section of Jersey City  around the corner from Holy Rosary, for for over 90 years. I love the area and the people. The old time Village people and the new residents that have made it home in the last 15 years. Wonderful people all of them living and loving their neighborhoods.  This is the fabric of the Village section of Jersey City, and the Holy Rosary feast. This feast  gets better every year.
