On Saturday, May 15th The Village Neighborhood Association, with the support of 4th Street Arts,Â hosted The 2nd Annual Village Art & Flea Market. A few thousand people came out to shop and mingleâ€¦

Taking place at the crossroads of 4th Street, Newark Avenue and Brunswick Street, the event featured an array of local artistsâ€™ works, the finest up-and-coming bands New Jersey has to offer, and delicious food from local vendors.

Crowds come out for 2nd Annual Yo Mamaâ€™s Craft Fair in Downtown, Jersey City

According to their websiteÂ Not Yo Mama’s Craft Fair started last year with an idea and acted upon by Sophie Penkrat, Megan Gulick and Leah Siegel- Picus.

The second annual fair was held yesterday On Saturday April 17 to entusiastic crowds Â and Â over 60 artistsÂ selling Â 7500 or more items at Parlay Studio’s 161 2nd St., Downtown Jersey City.Â Â Everything fromÂ jewelry, leather goods, soaps, furniture, cakes, leather bags, paintingsÂ andÂ many other items were on display and being sold.

The doors opened at 11am and the event Â ran until 6pm.

Besides the vendors, live entertainment was provided byÂ Kelly St. Patrick, Hezekiah Jones, Any Day Parade, Chrisitan Alessi, Land of the Look Behind

A portion of yesterday ‘s fair proceeds will go to Arts to Grow a non -profit organization which is dedicated to providing inner city children with a chance to explore the visual, literary and performing arts

Presenting sponsors of yesterday’s event was the Saffron, Boutique Realty and Michael Anthony’s.

BAYONNE HIGH SCHOOL ART STUDENTS RECEIVE AWARDS AT EMERGING 2010 Art Competition

Amanda Unger and Lilian Makar were presented with awards for their artwork in the 22nd Annual Emerging Artists Exhibit sponsored by the Art Administrators of New Jersey. This exhibit featured artwork produced by students who are studying art in high schools throughout the state of New Jersey.

Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Amanda, a junior, and Computer Graphics student of Mrs. Charlann Meluso, received a Merit Award for her image titled “Your Favorite Drug”.Â Â It was a digital image of a snap shot of a prescription drug bottle spilling jewels onto a hand that is reaching into the photo, creating an illusion of a third dimension. Â JC Fridays, Jersey City’s acclaimed city-wide celebration of arts and culture, returns on Friday, March 5, 2010 with events happening throughout day, including art exhibitions, live music, performances, and educational demonstrations. JC Fridays was created in 2005 by a coalition of artists, arts organizations and local businesses that wanted to showcase Jersey City’s exciting and burgeoning cultural landscape. Today Art House Productions and JC Fridays’ Major Sponsors presentÂ this eagerly anticipated quarterly event, taking place at the start of every season, where both residents and visitors can celebrate the growing vibrancy and distinct charm that Jersey City has to offer. Since its inception, the number of participants has more than doubled through increasing outreach to Jersey City’s neighborhoods, organizations, businesses and artists. JC Fridays is made possible through a grant by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, with major support provided by the State of New Jersey Urban Enterprise Zone Program and a host of other sponsors and patrons. Opening Reception for “HERSTORY” at Justice William J. Brennan Court House, Theodore Conrad Rotunda, Jersey City

In celebration of Women’s History Month;” Herstory,” an exhibit of black and white photographs taken by local women photographers: Danielle Fotopoulos,Virginia Kamenitzer,Beatrice M. Mady, Dot Paolo, Melida Rodas,Roberta C. Scott, Reena Rose Sibayan (Photographer for the Jersey Journal), Debbie Teicholz, Tara Thurber of women in the arts, sciences, the environment and other professions had itsÂ opening reception on Tuesday evening March 2nd, in the Justice William J. Brennan Court House, Theodore Conrad Rotunda.Â In attendance wasÂ aÂ large receptive crowd of family, friends and Hudson County residents.

The Art of Justice: Howard Pyle’s Legacy Prevails at the Brennan Court House

Howard Pyle, the “Father of American Illustration,” was also famous for painting historic murals like “The Landing at Carteret” which hangs in the Essex County Court House in Newark and other works collected by the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco, the Delaware Art Museum and the Brandywine River Museum. But you don’t have to hop a plane to Frisco or a train to Delaware to see Pyle’s paintings up close. Four murals depicting the history of Hudson County hang in the beautifully restored, Beaux Arts landmark Justice William J. Jersey City Museum is pleased to present Hair Tactics,

an exhibition guest curated by RocÃo Aranda–Alvarado and on view at Jersey City Museum February 5 though August 22, 2010. Hair Tactics features over 30 visual artists whose artworks explore hair as subject matter and medium. Increasingly, artists have begun to use both real and synthetic human hair to create works of art. Some use synthetic hair because it is widely and inexpensively available in urban neighborhoods, others because it is laden with social and political meaning, and still others because they are exploring the human obsession with hair. Art Views- Emerging Artist Johnny Pens

Â Emerging new artist John Marto aka “Johnny Pens” is unique and very talented; his ability to create cartoon drawings with the use of color pens is amazing as it is impressive. An artist in the downtown Jersey City area, Pens, inception into his art began by making small circles and lines on regular paper. As Pens recalls it, it began as just simple doodling on the Path train, but later turned into an assortment of cartoon characters.

He went from drawing on the Path train to drawing in front of his home, which would soon gather an audience of children as well as adults; they would stop in front of his home during the summer to view him as he drew. Pens began to sketch these lively cartoon characters on manila folders, and with each drawing he captured more and more detail. Framed and displayed they are artistry at its finest.
