Jersey City OEM is Asking Motorists to Not Park on Emergency Routes During Expected Snow Storm

Keeping Main Roads Clear of Vehicles Makes Clean-up Easier & Less Costly

JERSEY CITY – Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy and the Jersey City Office of Emergency Management are asking motorists not park on city emergency routes in light of the forecasted snow storm beginning tonight into Wednesday.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch from Tuesday evening through Wednesday night for the Jersey City metropolitan area. Snow is expected to begin today, Tuesday, January 11, mainly after 8pm, and could be heavy at times with expected snowfalls to be between 12 and 20 inches. Meteorologists are also predicting strong winds that coupled with the snowfall are expected to result in near zero visibility for motorists.

“We are urging residents to eliminate all non-essential driving and to avoid parking on emergency routes if possible,” said Mayor Healy. “This will greatly assist us in the clean-up of this storm if we receive the amount of snow currently forecasted.” Continue reading Jersey City OEM is Asking Motorists to Not Park on Emergency Routes During Expected Snow Storm

WALL ART-INTERNATIONAL STREET ARTISTS TURN JERSEY CITY BLIGHT INTO PRICELESS ART

International street artists like “Big Foot,” “Kid Zoom,” Jason Maloney and Ron English travel the globe creating art on the urban landscape. The artists – all world renown – paint murals on big concrete canvases like bridges, embankment walls and building facades that draw tourists, bring ka-ching to a city’s coffers and transform dilapidated structures into works of art. And because they’re painted on concrete walls, the artists’ works can’t be bought or sold or compete with the gallery sales of their paintings, so they do it all for free.

The Jersey City Street Art Initiative is like many public art happenings taking place in cities around the world. English, a Jersey City resident, worked with several street artists on a “Separation Wall” in Palestine and just returned from Miami, Florida where he was invited by real estate mogul Tony Goldwyn to create murals in a neighborhood of broken-down buildings to help transform it into a hip and happening hub of homes and restaurants. (Back in the day, Goldwyn initiated the transformation of Soho in New York City from a neighborhood of abandoned warehouses into a hip and thriving upscale arts district.) Stained-Glass Windows Find New Home at Holy Name Mausoleum In Jersey City

sacredheart_84_300_95Restored artwork preserves faith within Hudson County Community

Thirteen stained-glass windows will be unveiled in their new home at the Holy Name Mausoleum in Jersey City on Saturday, November 6th. These artifacts, which are valued over $525,000, were removed from Saint Boniface Parish Church and have undergone a rigorous restoration, uncovering the true beauty of their nineteenth century craftsmanship.

“These fragile artifacts represent how our community has expressed its faith over the years,” said Andrew Schafer, Executive Director, Catholic Cemeteries, Archdiocese of Newark. “While the stained-glass pieces have a significant monetary value, they hold an even stronger sacramental worth to the Catholic Church and its generation upon generation of followers in Hudson County.”

Dave  and his sister Anne Marie carved a niche on Grove Street with their handsome little restaurant, The Merchant, where the bar is cozy, the drinks are yummy and the food is All-American delish! It’s a great place to go for a business luncheon, watch a game or hang out with your friends and talk about life.

Dave and Anne Marie decided to try something a little more upscale and 2-1/2 years ago they opened The Embankment, a beautiful fine-dining restaurant nestled in the heart of 10th Street in the Hamilton Park neighborhood, where friendly neighbors drop by for brunch, dinner and drinks with friends.

Photography- Hudson County Photographer Rebecca Ferrier Opens Exhibit “Motels in Jersey City” on October 2nd

“Natural and memorable”, is the best way to describe the photography of Hudson County photographer Rebecca Ferrier. Well-known for preserving the history of things that are slowly disappearing from the past; through her images she is able to awaken what once was.

In her newest exhibit “Motels”, she travels from the north to the south of New Jersey to capture the true essence of what motels once were. Once a prime place to stay, motels are slowly vanishing in the wake of large hotels. Ferrier explains, “With my photography, I like to document objects that are slowly disappearing. Some motels are changing and being renovated, while others are just fading away. Through my images, I hope to document its true meaning.”
