Bayonne Bridge Update

Mayor Jimmy Davis announced that the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has advised the City of Bayonne concerning the latest developments in the Bayonne Bridge construction project.

The gantry continues to undergo load and performance testing. The gantry will begin to set segments of the bridge in January 2015.

Verizon and Cablevision continue installation of new cables inside street vaults. This work will require a curb closure and will involve a utility truck: Cable work continues on 1st Street. Work on Gertrude Street, 3rd Street, Juliette Street, and 4th Street has been completed. The cable activity is expected to be completed during mid-December 2014. December 9, 2014, Jersey City, NJ – Hudson County Community College (HCCC) Vice President for Development Joseph Sansone announced today that the HCCC Foundation’s 2014 gala fundraiser was the most successful to date. Mr. Sansone said the 17th Annual “Holiday Extravaganza” grossed a record-breaking $208,000. The event was held on December 4th at the College’s Culinary Conference Center in Jersey City. Proceeds from the event will be dedicated to scholarships for deserving students, faculty development programs, and the College’s physical expansion.

First grader from Jersey City Public School #17 wins statewide grand prize in New Jersey Agricultural Society poster contest

Learning Through Gardening The New Jersey Agricultural Society recently announced that Varsha Gireesh, a student at Jersey City Public School #17, won the statewide grand prize for first grade in the annual Farm-City Week Poster Contest.

This year’s theme for the poster contest was “Eat A Rainbow.” The students were asked to show why it is important to “eat a rainbow” of different-colored fruits and vegetables for their different vitamins and nutrients. They were also asked to show how they could “eat a rainbow” of fruits and vegetables in one week. Local Actress Tammy Blanchard at the “Into the Woods Premiere in New York

Tammy Blanchard at Into The Woods premeire Just Jared Local actress Tammy Blanchard graced the red carpet at New York’s Zigfield Theater last night for the opening of “Into The Woods” starring Meryl Streep, Johnny Dep,  Anna Kendricks, Christine Baranski, Billy Magnussen, Tammy Blanchard and others.

Ms. Blanchard plays Florinda, one of the wicked step-sisters from the Cinderella tale.

And our sources at the premiere tell us  Ms. Blanchard is wickedly fantastic in Director Rob Marshall’s film.

Steven Songheim was also in the audience to see his score from Into The Woods brought to life on the big screen.

Into The Woods will open nation wide on Christmas Day, December 25th, 2014

JERSEY CITY – Mayor Steven M. Fulop announced today that the City of Jersey City has launched FilmJC.org, a website that streamlines the film permitting process and allows filmmakers to apply online for film permits as the administration continues to encourage the expansion of art and the film industry in Jersey City.

The filmJC website, one of a handful of municipal film permit websites, streamlines the film permitting process by allowing filmmakers to submit their request and information, upload necessary forms, and pay for the permit online. Bayonne Bridge Construction Update from the City of Bayonne

 

 

Bayonne Bridge Construction Updates River View ObserverMayor Jimmy Davis announced that the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has advised the City of Bayonne concerning the latest developments in the Bayonne Bridge construction project.

The assembly of the gantry is 95% complete.  The gantry will have a load and performance test on December 8. This gantry will carry the pre-cast roadway slabs to the new piers.  The piers are the columns that will hold up the roadway.  The crane height will start at 120 feet and then grow to 300 feet once it gets closer to the Kill Van Kull.  The crane started constructing new piers on November 14 near Margaret Street and 5th Street. The gantry base is at 6th Street and travels the entire length of the bridge.  Sometime this fall, another crane will be in service working on the south end of Bayonne near 1st Street.
