Jersey City Officials Cut Ribbon on The One, Jersey City’s Newest Luxury Residential Tower

Ceremony Features Unveiling of New 67-by-80-Foot Mural Celebrating City’s Artistic Culture

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (June 25, 2015) —  Mayor Steven M. Fulop and other Jersey City officials today joined representatives of BLDG, Ares Management, L.P. and Urban Development Partners to celebrate the grand opening of The One with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The ribbon cutting marked the start of leasing at the new 36-story luxury residential tower in the heart of Jersey City’s burgeoning Powerhouse Arts District, as well as the unveiling of a 67-by-80-foot mural that reflects the city’s artistic culture and its connection with the surrounding architecture.

Developed by a joint-venture partnership of BLDG, Ares Management, L.P. and Urban Development Partners, The One offers a mix of 439 studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments.

“This building has an artistic and unique design that will both add to the city’s growing skyline and contribute to the exciting Powerhouse Arts District,” said Mayor Fulop.  “We look forward to welcoming the new residents who will live here and call Jersey City home.”

Located at 110 First Street, the building boasts an extensive array of lifestyle amenities for residents. Indoor amenities include a world-class fitness center with its own yoga studio, media theater room, children’s playroom, gaming room, virtual golf, residents’ lounge with catering kitchen and billiards, and additional storage space. Outside, residents will enjoy a pool with private cabanas and an expansive landscaped sun deck, picnic and lawn area, barbecues and fire pit. Additionally, a sky lounge with kitchen and adjacent roof deck will provide residents with a perfect place for entertaining guests.

Created by artist Jeff Quinn and produced by combining a hand-painted technique with scanned materials, the mural depicts a mix of elements including a landscape and sky inspired by the 19th century Hudson River School art movement, and a depiction of the numeral “One” sitting amidst a foreground composed of photographic images of the current Jersey City skyline.

A professional artist with 25 years of experience, Quinn sought to create a work that suggests “the romantic history of the area and the feel of a fine art painting.” He also aimed to infuse the image with a “warm glow” that will make it appealing in all seasons.

“I want the mural to represent The One as it becomes an iconic part of the neighboring cityscape,” Quinn said. “The connection between art and architecture is frequently overlooked, thus the chance to work on this project was an amazing opportunity. I think Jersey City is poised to see a lot of new interesting art, design and architecture. My hope is that the mural will highlight Jersey City as a community that is open-armed to artists, designers, and creators alike.”

With leasing now underway at The One, residents will benefit from the presence of an on-site parking garage, bike storage, as well as a 24-hour attended lobby.

For commuters, The One is just a short walk from Jersey City’s Grove Street, Pavonia/Newport and Exchange Place PATH stations. The Light Rail stop is conveniently located right outside of the building, which is also just a short drive to the Holland Tunnel.
