Turnpike Construction Update
Mayor Jimmy Davis announced that the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and its contractors have provided updated information to the City of Bayonne regarding the reconstruction of the 14A toll plaza and related work.
Construction continues on a new building and lanes in the 14A toll plaza area. Â Work goes forward on widening the ramps to and from the Turnpike Extension Bridge.
The Turnpike’s contractor has created access points for work between Kennedy Boulevard and Avenue C.
Water main and sewer work continues on the northern end of Avenue E. Â The southbound side of Avenue E was closed on the morning and afternoon of Thursday, June 18. Â During the work week beginning on Monday, June 22, nighttime sewer work will begin on Avenue E between 50th and 53rd Streets. Â That work will take place on and off for six weeks between 7:00 p.m.and 3:00 a.m. Â Traffic flow will be maintained during that sewer work.
PSE&G will be doing utility work at 51st Street and Broadway. Â As a result, there will be periodic street closings on 51st Street.
At Pulaski Street and Route 440, gas main relocation work has been completed. Â As work continues in that area, there will be a traffic shift. Â The southbound jughandle, which normally operates with two lanes, will be reduced temporarily to one lane until work is completed in September. Â At Route 440 and Pulaski Street, work will continue on utility lines and drains.
