City, County & Federal Officials Break Ground on Berry Lane Park

 The 17-Acre Municipal Park will Transform Brownfields into Much- Needed Park Space in the Morris Canal Neighborhood

JERSEY CITY – Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy, the Jersey City Redevelopment Agency (JCRA), Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Regional Administrator Judith Enck and other city and local officials broke ground at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 on the Berry Lane Park project located at 1000 Garfield Ave., Jersey City in the Morris Canal neighborhood.

Berry Lane Park will rejuvenate the Morris Canal neighborhood with a nine percent increase of usable space in Jersey City by transforming more than 17 acres of property – including former rail yards, junk yards, auto repair shops, industrial facilities, and warehouses – into the largest municipally-owned park in the City.

Mayor Healy. “With sixty percent of the residents in the immediate area being children under the age of 18, Berry Lane Park will provide the space necessary for recreation and community involvement. The transformation of these fallow and deserted properties will also rid the area of an eyesore and contamination, and will make this neighborhood a more enjoyable place to live.”

Jersey City’s City Hall to be Designated as First Heart Safe Municipal Building

 JERSEY CITY – Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy announces that City Hall will now become designated as a Heart Safe building according to criteria established by the American Heart Association on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at 9:00am, CPR classes will be administered in City Hall Council Chambers and additional automated external defibrillators (AEDs) will be installed. Jersey City to Honor the Life of Judge Shirley A. Tolentino

 Street Renaming of the Corner of Baldwin & Newark Avenues

 

JERSEY CITY –Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy and members of the Municipal Council will rename the corner of Baldwin and Newark Avenues as Judge Shirley A. Tolentino Avenue in honor of Judge Shirley A. Tolentino at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2012.

“Judge Shirley A. Tolentino lived an illustrious and full life marked by countless accomplishments,” said Mayor Healy. “Renaming the corner of the Hudson County Courthouse in her honor is only fitting, as she has dedicated decades of her life to serving the courts and the people of our county.”

Healy, John Hallanan of the Landmarks Conservancy, George Filopolous of The Beacon, Bob Leach Director of the Jersey City Historical Project, and Maryanne Kelleher, Director of Cultural Affairs and Cliff Perkins, Special Events Coordinator of Cultural Affairs were e on site to witness delivery and sign the Bill of Lading, acknowledging safe arrival.
 
Friday August 12, 2011 the statute of Peter Stuyvesant by famed sculptor J. Massey Rhind began the next leg of its journey home to Bergen Square.

louis-calamito-way-signOn a beautiful Saturday morning with the tempatures in the high 50s, Mayor Jerrimiah Healy of Jersey City, along with Peter Brennan City Council President and Steven Fulop Ward E Councilman of downtown Jersey city officiated over the dedication for the naming of 5th and Monmouth as Louis Calamito Way.
Over 50 people both family and friends were there for the dedication.

Impact in Densely Populated Jersey City Would Be Catastrophic

JERSEY CITY – Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy and other city officials today reiterated concerns about the construction of a natural gas pipeline in Jersey City following Thursday night’s devastating pipeline explosion in a suburb of San Francisco.

 “We have repeatedly expressed our concerns about Spectra Energy running a high-pressure natural gas pipeline through our city, and what happened yesterday in San Bruno brings those fears to a new level,” said Mayor Healy. “While the incident in California is still under investigation, the explosion there claimed several lives, injured many, and leveled dozens of homes. If this type of explosion were to happen in a city our size, we cannot begin to comprehend the level of devastation, destruction and loss of life. Jersey City OEM Announces Instructions for Residents & Business Owners During Snow Storms First Major Winter Storm Expected to Exceed 15 inches

JERSEY CITY – Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy along with the Office of Emergency Management and the Jersey City Incinerator Authority (JCIA) announced today the city’s snow emergency plan in preparation for expected snow fall tomorrow, Wednesday, February 10, 2010.

A snow emergency is when more than three inches of snow falls, such as during a Nor’easter, and requires that residents do not park on designated snow routes. The emergency routes are main thoroughfares that have to be plowed by the Jersey City Incinerator Authority, and on designated days residents should utilize side streets for parking.
