The Everything Jersey City Festival will Celebrate Community Pride and UEZ Support at a Time when Budget Cuts Loom

 If you don’t know by now, one-third of Jersey City is a designated Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ\) a designation that offers local businesses tax and other financial incentives to help grow their businesses and stimulate local economy.  Sale tax revenues generated by UEZ businesses go for economic development and neighborhood improvements like street lights, paving, flowerboxes — and other programs that give constituents a feeling of pride in their community.

To celebrate the UEZ’s success revitalizing the Heights section of Jersey City – the neighborhood nestled on the cliff above Hoboken – the Central Avenue Special Improvement District (CASID) Management Corporation presents the Everything Jersey City Festival which takes place Sat., May 21st from 11 am-to-6 pm along Central Avenue from Congress to Hutton Streets. Your Pictures needed for contest that depicts Jersey City-People, Neighborhoods and more

jerseycityphotocontestJersey City Greenville resident Elizabeth Deegan is organizing a Jersey City photo contest that will end in a group exhibition tentatively scheduled for May, and she’s currently looking for entries.

“The contest is open to all, whether you live in Jersey City or not, so long as the images submitted are of Jersey City,” she writes in an email. “I am looking for color, black & white, vintage or new – all styles and skill levels, as well as all ages. Prints are preferable but digital submissions are of course welcome too.”

Downtown Jersey City got a splash of color on Tuesday when artists Jason Maloney, Bigfoot and Ron English kicked off work on a new mural at Hudson County Art Supply. This project, the first in a proposed series of murals to be painted by well-known local and national artists throughout the city, is part of a citizen effort to make the municipality a destination for contemporary art.
