Head coach Austin Wright Sr. was recognized and inducted by the USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame Hall of Hero’s.

Wright was inducted in the category of “Grandmaster Leading by Example Award.” Wright is known for his “Spirit of the Dragon Warrior” because of his championship-leadership and CHI (Character, Humility, and Integrity).

There were several members of Team Wright who earned the Kidz Award at the Hall of Fame for their passion in karate, for team competition, winning national championships for New Jersey, and community service.

One of the Team Wright members who received the Kidz Award from the USA Hall of Fame was the 15-year-old Keith Hampton Jr.; he won the Outstanding Jr. Black Belt of the Year Award. The Top Rated Jr. Male Competitor Award was presented to Declan McCormick and the Top Rated Jr. Female Competitor Award was awarded to Cassandra Jedrzejczyk. All students mentioned are members of the UWA Martial Arts Federation of America and U.S. National Martial Arts Team “Alliance.”

JERSEY CITY – Mayor Steven M. Fulop presents his fifth annual July 4th festival on the Hudson Waterfront to celebrate Independence Day. The carnival-style spectacle, branded 50STAR FIRE SHOW, spans the entire Greater New York City Area and will feature a headline concert performance by Snoop Dogg on the Private Internet Access stage in front of a 200,000 person audience lining the Hudson River Waterfront and area surrounding Harborside. The all-day music, food, technology and entertainment experience boasts views of the New York City skyline, and will become the

Bayonne Chamber of Commerce Takes Road Trip to Meadowlands Racetrack

 
 

 On June 16 The Bayonne Chamber of Commerce had its first road trip. Michele Bryd, Director of Winners of Bayonne chaired the event where trustees and its members had an event in a skybox at the Meadowlands Racetrack.  They enjoyed a social event to celebrate summer while watching races which included the ostrich race along with the camel races.

Colors of Autism was established in honor of her middle son Ravi  31. who has Autism.

 Women’s faces are a myriad of feelings and emotions artist Theda Sandiford conveys in the mixed media paintings on view in Fragmented Identity, her solo show at ‘A’ Condo on Washington Street in downtown Jersey City. The show opened Friday, June 8, and runs through July. 

 Sandiford’s show features 13 mixed media pieces that represent the many masks she wears throughout the course of a day, she says, either in her Jersey City studio or at her desk at Island Records in Manhattan where she works as a publicist. THREE WEEK SCHEDULE AS OF JUNE 8, 2018

The following work is scheduled over the next three weeks:

Toll Plaza

East side (entering the Turnpike) renovation of existing Toll Utility Building continues.
During the evening of 06/11/18, nighttime Toll Lane closures, one lane at a time, will be utilized to to perform roadway striping work. Minor traffic impacts are expected. This work will be supported by State Police.
Ramps between the Toll Plaza and the Hudson County Extension (HCE)

No work planned.

Avenue E / Proposed Roundabout
During the weeks of 06/11/18 through 06/25/18, daytime lane closures will be utilized for clean up work between 53rd Street and 50th Street. This work will be supported by Bayonne Police as needed.
Connector Bridge (Bridge from the Toll Plaza to Port Jersey Boulevard)

Pedestrian usage of the bridge for access to and from Port Jersey Boulevard continues to be prohibited.
Route 440 and Pulaski Street Intersection / Jughandle

Continue traffic signal construction on Route 440.

Ramp Area East of Route 440

Continue traffic signal construction on Port Jersey Boulevard.

For those of you who know Frank Sinatra Drive as the long and winding road on Hoboken’s waterfront, well, kids, its time you knew some Hoboken history. Let’s just say Ol’ Blue Eyes grew up in Hoboken back when almost every corner had a gin joint and if you could carry a tune, some music-lover on a barstool bought you a drink.

Those were the days when Hoboken native son Frankie Sinatra walked the Mile Square City dreaming of someday making it big. And make it he did! Superstar, legend, and boy, what a voice. It’s been said that back in the 1990s, while Sinatra was in Manhattan, he would tell the limo driver to take him to Hoboken where his black limo could be seen cruising up and down the old neighborhoods.

A life in art, that’s exactly what William La Rosa set out to do in his 30-year tenure as Director of the Hudson County Office of Cultural Affairs. Before retiring in September 2017, La Rosa facilitated programs that helped local visual and performing artists. He founded the Local Arts Program (LAP) grants that, over the years, provided thousands of dollars to local artists and arts organizations.
