April 24 Luncheon Will Benefit the Nonprofit, Autism New Jersey; HCCC Professor Salim Bendaoud, a Neurosciences Specialist and Parent of an Autistic Child, Will Deliver the Keynote Address

 JERSEY CITY, N.J. – New Jersey has the distinction of having the highest autism rate in the country, and while awareness of autism spectrum disorders is growing, it is happening very slowly.

To provide area residents with more information on autism spectrum disorders, and to raise funds for New Jersey’s largest non-profit autism network, Hudson County Community College’s Beta Alpha Phi chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society will hold a luncheon, “Raise Your Fork Against Autism,” on Saturday, April 24 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The event will be held in the College’s Culinary Arts Institute/Conference Center, 161 Newkirk Street – just two blocks from the Journal Square PATH Station in Jersey City. Tickets for the event are available at $45 each – $23 of which is tax deductible. (Checks should be made payable to the Hudson County Community College Foundation.) CHRIST HOSPITAL SCHOOL OF RADIOGRAPHY NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR ENROLLMENT

christ-hospital-logo(Jersey City, N.J.) – The Christ Hospital School of Radiography is now accepting applications for enrollment. The School of Radiography, located at 176 Palisade Avenue in Jersey City, offers a 24-month educational program consisting of theory and clinical education.

Students enrolled in the school acquire the skills and knowledge to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) examination to become licensed radiographers.  Radiographers assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of disease and injury, and can find employment in hospitals, clinics and imaging centers.

library-logo-jc  JERSEY CITY, NJ  April 8, 2010 – With a postcard geared to the NJ State Assembly, residents and library supporters in Jersey City can make their voices heard regarding the Draconian cuts proposed for the New Jersey State Library, and learn how local funding for all public libraries may be eliminated forever. Postcards are available now at the Main Library, 10 branches and the Bookmobile. The postcard reads: The Governor’s proposed budget cuts library funding by 74%.  This cut: ELIMINATES Internet access and electronic journals in hundreds of libraries ELIMINATES the delivery of materials from other libraries to you – more than 3 million items in 2009  ELIMINATES 50% of State Aid to public libraries  Loss of these programs will put more pressure on local property taxes. Fans from all over the U.S., and even Europe and Asia, are jumping at the chance to see their favorite country performer, Kenny Rogers, tape a show at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods in Ledyard, CT. April 10.

Smokey Robinson, Tim McGraw, Chris Isaak, Darius Rucker, Billy Currington, and Sheena Easton have signed on to perform on the television special Kenny Rogers: The First 50 Years, joining previously announced guests Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie, Alison Krauss, Wynonna Judd, and The Oak Ridge Boys. The array of all-star artists will perform, along with Kenny,and a few will host different segments of the show traveling through his six decades of hits at the special taping. Parton, Richie, Krauss, Robinson, Isaak, Judd, The Oak Ridge Boys, Easton, original members of The First Edition and Rogers will perform live at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods. woman-of-achievement-photo-for-page-3On Wed, March 24th, Hudson County Executive Thomas DeGise and the Hudson County Board of Chosen Freeholders honored 35 local women, many of whom dared to be first including the first woman Mayor of Hoboken Dawn Zimmer; the first woman president of the Bayonne chapter of the NAACP Dorothy Adams; the first woman Vice President at Saint Peter’s College Dr. Eileen Poiani; and, the first woman elected to the Jersey City Municipal Council Lois Shaw.
