Avon Voices Voting Begins Soon!  Help Make Dreams Come True for Your Hometown’s Singing Sensation

 Edgewater, NJ – May 11, 2011 – Local Edgewater resident, Christen Satchelle, has been named a Round 1 Contender in Avon Voices, Avon’s first-ever global singing talent search. Christen was selected as one of the more than 175 global Contenders, from over 50 countries, who have just completed professional recording sessions in either Nashville, Paris, Hong Kong or Rio, with performance videos available for voting at AvonVoices.com starting April 22.   Ultimately, the public vote and the vote of the celebrity judging panel will determine two women – one an Avon Representative – who will receive an opportunity to record a professionally-produced album.

The Everything Jersey City Festival will Celebrate Community Pride and UEZ Support at a Time when Budget Cuts Loom

 If you don’t know by now, one-third of Jersey City is a designated Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ\) a designation that offers local businesses tax and other financial incentives to help grow their businesses and stimulate local economy.  Sale tax revenues generated by UEZ businesses go for economic development and neighborhood improvements like street lights, paving, flowerboxes — and other programs that give constituents a feeling of pride in their community.

To celebrate the UEZ’s success revitalizing the Heights section of Jersey City – the neighborhood nestled on the cliff above Hoboken – the Central Avenue Special Improvement District (CASID) Management Corporation presents the Everything Jersey City Festival which takes place Sat., May 21st from 11 am-to-6 pm along Central Avenue from Congress to Hutton Streets.  Book lovers, Kindle and Nook lovers and those who just adore the Weehawken Public Library for the stellar services it provides are invited to step out on Tuesday, April 26th for an evening of delicious food and wine at “A Taste of Weehawken” at the Lincoln Harbor Food Court (next door to Houlihan’s) on the Weehawken Waterfront. All proceeds from this fundraising event go to the library’s special programming.

And that’s just the way Linda and Peter “Bitzy” Paldino and Linda’s brother Richie Marto, who oversees The Barge Inn’s bar around the corner, want you to feel.

 Linda and Bitzy have been married 31 years and not only are they partners in life, they’re partners in business. They have a son Richard who is  a Detective on the East Orange Police Force for 6 years. Bitzy and Linda  have worked side-by-side for many years and  they even created one of the house specials named for him: Pork Chops Bitzy served with potatoes, onions, sweet and hot peppers ($22). The menu and a blackboard of daily specials offer variations of seafood, meat and poultry dishes that are cooked to order and made with fresh ingredients delivered that day.  His voice is like a soft breeze blowing through a beer can; a bunch of bears munching potato chips around a campfire; a sock of nickels whacked against aluminum siding.

 There’s no mistaking Gilbert Gottfried, a comedian who’s been entertaining people with his off-the-wall comedy since the 1970s and who recently made headlines when Aflac fired him as the voice of the duck after he tweeted post-Tsunami jokes on Twitter.  The company disowned Gottfried because they found his jokes inappropriate, but Gottfried’s stand-up pals and fans defend Gottfried’s wild card humor because they know that’s his style. Bayonne Citywide Clean-Up Set for April 16

Smith announced that a citywide clean-up called Spring Cleaning Day will take place on Saturday, April 16.  Smith said, “During the winter months, litter accumulated under ice and snow.  Now that the snow and ice have melted, it is time for each residential and commercial neighborhood to do a good spring cleaning. The goals of the day cleaning the city, educating people against littering, and encouraging everyone to take responsibility

Each of Bayonne’s eleven public elementary schoolyards and the schoolyard of All Saints Catholic Academy will serve as a neighborhood supply center for the clean-up effort.  Residents and businesses interested in participating should report to the nearest schoolyard before 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, to receive directions and pick up supplies for cleaning up neighborhoods.  Participants will receive a list of suggested areas to clean.
