THE PROVIDENT BANK DONATES A 19TH CENTURY MAP, BOOKS & OTHER MATERIALS TO NJ ROOM

Pieces of the historical puzzle that bind The Provident Bank and the City of Jersey City now have become part of the Jersey City Free Public Library, for their preservation and for all to see.

CURRENT MAP – The New Jersey Room at Jersey City’s Main Library has many archival maps. Featured, is an 1876 copy of the original 1841 map of the area. This one is separated in three sections, and is encased in plastic, for use by library patrons

All items being donated to the New Jersey Room of the Jersey City Free Public Library are property of The Provident Bank and were accumulated in the course of its 173 years of banking.

“Provident and Jersey City share more than a connection with Dudley Gregory, Provident’s first acting president and Jersey City’s first mayor. The Provident Bank shares a rich history with the City of Jersey City: its businesses, its peoples, its successes and its challenges. We take pride in this shared history, and we are delighted that we can share our treasure trove of historical information with the residents of Jersey City through the Jersey City Public Library,” said Jean Quinn, vice president, public relations, The Provident Bank.

Also representing The Provident was Nicholas Cavaluzzi, vice president and area manager, Jersey City.

“The Provident Bank has been with us from the beginning, so it’s only fitting that we preserve its history,” said Library Director Priscilla Gardner. “The Provident continually offers the Library support through donations to various capital improvement projects.” In recent years, The Provident Bank Foundation has donated the following: $5,000 for the Five Corners Branch computer training center and $10,000 toward the capital improvement plan, both in 2004; $20,000 toward the 2008 purchase of the custom-designed and –built Bookmobile, and $15,000 toward purchase and installation of security cameras throughout the system in 2009. Rita and Joe’s Authentic Italian Cuisine-Popular Jersey City Restaurant serves Rita’s Special Recipes with a Whole Lotta Love

By Sally Deering

In the Marion Section of Jersey City on Broadway near the Pulaski Skyway entrance is where you’ll find Rita & Joe’s, an Italian eatery that as soon as you walk in the door it feels like home.

Rita & Joe Pane bought the place in 1985 when it was called the Broadway Tavern, a neighborhood hangout where the bar took up most of the room. Rita would make Chicken and Shrimp Parmigiana sandwiches and dinners for the customers and take out dishes they could enjoy at home. Soon, the bar got smaller and the dining room got bigger as more and more customers came in for the food and became regulars.

ART VIEWS-Experimental Curator Lance Fung To Transform Atlantic City In A 5 Year Public Art Campaign

Lance Fung

In Hudson County, we all know public art effects culture in ways far greater than the purse, and now Atlantic City’s community stakeholders, both public and private are sending a message. Art and culture can expose the elusive quality of place by positively influencing a neighborhood and a city. Earlier today at an exciting and inspiring event at Lance Fung’s SOHO loft.  The Atlantic City Alliance (ACA) a newly formed non profit, has hired Lance and his group, Fung Collaboratives, to transform Atlantic City. They will collaborate to turn many entire vacant lots into commissioned works of art or as Lance describes them, magical green spaces. It’s amazing that in this economy the ACA holds, that for this country’s cities, right now art and culture are key. As daring a collaborationist as ever, Lance will triangulate Atla ntic City with an exquisite 5 year long public art exhibition that will complete this message.
