SUNFLOWER MEDICAL ADULT DAYCARE CENTER NOW ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS

 

Sunflower Medical Adult Day Care Center, located at 300 Broadway in Bayonne, offers clients free transportation to and from the Center. Here, Joseph Caramanno, Director of Transportation, offers assistance to Rose DePaolo, who has been attending the Center for years. Sunflower Medical Adult Daycare Center is now accepting new clients.  The Center, located at 300 Broadway in Bayonne, New Jersey, provides health and social services to adults who need supervised care in a safe place outside the home during the day. Sunflower provides care, activities and nutritious meals in a modern, new air-conditioned facility staffed by a competent, professional staff that includes registered nurses, social workers and physical therapists.Sunflower also offers movies, games, entertainment, art and crafts, exercise,  computer/internet services, slot machines, field trips, outdoor patio and more.   The services of a hairdresser are also available each week at no extra cost. 

 In addition, Sunflower offers door-to-door transportation to and from the Center as well as to doctor’s offices and other medical appointments. 

 The Center is open weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Services are covered 100 percent by Medicaid.  Private pay clients are also welcome.

Jersey City to Showcase Its Newest Community Gardens with the 2012 Adopt-A-Lot Garden Tour

JERSEY CITY – Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy , the Division of City Planning in partnership with several community organizations are hosting the 2012 “Growing Together”: Adopt-A-Lot Community Garden Tour from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 25, 2012.

The shuttle bus will be leaving the Bright Street Community Garden, located on Bright and Grove Sts., at 10:00 a.m. for the tour. Pre-registration is encouraged as seats are limited. To register, please call Ivan Freire at 201-547-4513 or email freirei@jcnj.org

Bark in the Park: FUNDRAISER

Registration for Bark in the Park walkers is now open! Walkers can sign up individually, form teams, or fundraise as a “virtual walker” if you cannot attend the event.

Their   goal this year is to raise $40,000–which Liberty Humane Society   is confident  their supporters can help them achieve.

The initial registration fee is $25 a for single walker and $35 for a human plus one dog.

Why stop there? If at least 200 participants each raise a total of $200, LHS will already be at their goal! Hudson Regional Health to Use Helicopter for Mosquito Control on Friday, August 24

The Hudson Regional Health Commission has advised Bayonne residents that it will be applying mosquito control larvicides by helicopter flying at low altitudes over Hudson County on Friday, August 24. In the event of inclement weather or other flight restrictions, the flight would be rescheduled for the next available date.

Helicopter application sites in Bayonne include the following:

1) Bayonne Golf Club – the marshes along the water at the northeastern point of the golf course

2) The Peninsula at Bayonne Harbor (the former Military Ocean Terminal) – the wooded area at the western end between Route 440, the access road, and Centre Street

3) Northwestern corner of Bayonne – area west of Sunset Avenue from 54th Street to 56th Street; the area between the New Jersey Turnpike and Route 440; the area within the Turnpike, Route 440, and the Conrail line; and the area on the North side of the Conrail line and the Eastern side of the Route 440 ramp

A whopping 59.9% are single with a median income of $140,780 dollars.  Those statistic are  the reason CNN Financial Website has given Hoboken the distinct title as “The Second Best City Nationwide for the Rich and Single,” beating out places like Redondo California, Brookline Mass and Arlington VA.

City, County & Federal Officials Break Ground on Berry Lane Park

 The 17-Acre Municipal Park will Transform Brownfields into Much- Needed Park Space in the Morris Canal Neighborhood

JERSEY CITY – Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy, the Jersey City Redevelopment Agency (JCRA), Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Regional Administrator Judith Enck and other city and local officials broke ground at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 on the Berry Lane Park project located at 1000 Garfield Ave., Jersey City in the Morris Canal neighborhood.

Berry Lane Park will rejuvenate the Morris Canal neighborhood with a nine percent increase of usable space in Jersey City by transforming more than 17 acres of property – including former rail yards, junk yards, auto repair shops, industrial facilities, and warehouses – into the largest municipally-owned park in the City.

Mayor Healy. “With sixty percent of the residents in the immediate area being children under the age of 18, Berry Lane Park will provide the space necessary for recreation and community involvement. The transformation of these fallow and deserted properties will also rid the area of an eyesore and contamination, and will make this neighborhood a more enjoyable place to live.”

Centennial Celebration of Landmark Park Scheduled for September 15th-Tour Park with PealCollection

Although the official dedication of Hudson County Park took place in 1916, it was a hundred years ago in 1912 that the park (now called the Stephen R. Gregg Hudson County Bayonne Park) first opened to the public.  PealCollection partners, Priscilla Ege and Alice Lotosky invite the public to celebrate this centennial by taking a 90-minute “Park by Design” tour (free to the public) of the landmark on Saturday, September 15th at 10AM.  The guest tour guide will be Dr. Carmela A. Karnoutsos, Professor Emerita, New Jersey City University, who will discuss the park’s history, design and architectural features.  The group meets at the park entrance on 40th Street and Avenue C.   Call 201-437-6069 and leave a call back number. Saint Peter’s College Announces the Launch of Saint Peter’s PAC

Jersey City, N.J. – Saint Peter’s College  announced the launch of Saint Peter’s PAC, a consortium of distinctive performing arts spaces situated within the campus of Saint Peter’s College in Jersey City, N.J. Saint Peter’s PAC features a variety of diverse event spaces with seating capacities ranging from 200 to 3,200. Saint Peter’s College is kicking off the launch with an impressive line-up of performers throughout the remainder of the year.

“The opening of Saint Peter’s PAC is a momentous occasion for our neighborhood as this new initiative will open up endless cultural opportunities and will bring world-class talent to the McGinley Square area,” said Michael A. Message from Downtown Jersey City Village Neighborhood Association on Delays on Newark Ave. From Brunswick St. to Palisades Avenue.

Beginning today and until mid October, please expect traffic delays on Newark Ave. between Brunswick St. and Palisade Ave. for construction.

Alternate traffic patterns will be set up and motorists may want to plan alternate routes in the area. Crews will be working 24 hours a day.

PSE&G crews will complete the construction of the manhole on Newark Ave. near Dickinson High School by the close of business on Monday, August 13, 2012. Normal traffic will be restored at that time.
A second crew has started trench excavation and conduit installation along Newark Avenue from the bridge over the depressed Conrail track, heading east towards Monmouth Street. Starting today, Monday, August 13, 2012, work along this portion of the route will continue on two (2) shifts (7:00 AM to 5:00 PM and 5:00 PM to3:00 AM). A conduit installation crew will work on the day shift only (7:00 AM to 5:00 PM). Two lanes of traffic will be maintained and managed by the Jersey City Police for the next several days and re-evaluated as work progresses.
The PJM Interconnection, LLC, (PJM), the regional entity responsible for planning the electric transmission system in 13 states and the District of Columbia,identified the need for the NGRP, and assigned design/construction responsibility to PSE&G to ensure reliability of electricity supply within the region.
The targeted completion date is October 15, 2012.
