Hudson County’s Favorite Son-Frank Sinatra

Frank Sinatra is one of the first all round superstars of the entertainment business. A singer, actor, director and producer par excellence.

But in Hudson County-He’s it!!    

frank-oldAlthough Frank Sinatra died over 11 years ago, his legend, and music and escapades as an entertainer on and off the stage and screen live on. Especially in Hudson County where stories about the boy from Hoboken are passed down from parents to children. In Hudson County we love Frank Sinatra .Everyone has a Sinatra story – it really is -Six degrees of Frank Sinatra here. You hear things like “Frank was at my mother’s wedding,” or “they say he use to ride the streets of Hoboken late at night in his limo, remembering the good old days. And   there isn’t a restaurant in Hudson County that doesn’t have  some kind of photo of Frank. Yep, In Hudson County we love Frank- here is a bio on Hudson County’s favorite son.       

Francis Albert Sinatra was born on December 12, 1915 in Hoboken, New Jersey. Frank Sinatra’s father was a firefighter and amateur boxer named Martin Anthony Sinatra while his mother, Natalie Sinatra had political aspirations. Over the next eighty years Frank Sinatra was a singer, actor, director and producer who entertained generation after generation all over the world. The Make-A-Wish Foundation of New Jersey has announced their 2009 annual Walk for Wishes event on Sunday, October 18 at Liberty State Park located on Morris Pesin Drive in Jersey City, N.J. Check-in begins at 9:00 a.m. and the walk will kick off at 10:00 a.m. There will be additional activities for the entire family including arts and crafts, face painting, music and refreshments. New Jersey- Limited Initial Shipments of H1N1 Influenza Nasal Spray Arrive in State Today -Public Information Line Open-

A small number of local health departments and health care providers received initial shipments of nasal spray H1N1 flu vaccine today. Plans for the administration of the vaccine that arrived today and additional shipments that will continue to arrive are being finalized by providers.

Hudson County Community College and WomenRising to Host Domestic Violence Awareness Month

vigil_2 The Office of Student Activities at Hudson County Community College and WomenRising, Inc. have collaborated to host a candlelight vigil in observance of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

The event will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 28, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the College’s Student Lounge, 25 Journal Square (adjacent to the Journal Square Transportation Center) in Jersey City. It is free and open to the public.

“Given the numerous incidents of domestic violence – among both celebrities and private citizens – that have been reported in 2009, and the increased risk of abuse occurring due to current economic conditions, this event could not be more timely,” said Ophelia Morgan, Director of Student Activities at HCCC. “It is our hope that as many who are able will come out to educate themselves.”

During the vigil, there will be information booths, an open forum and candle lighting ceremony.  Actress Lisa Regina will perform a monologue titled “A Write to Heal.”

THE SECRETS IN THE ATTIC

A Look At One of Hudson County’s Best and Oldest  Theater Company’s

Back in the 1970s, alumni from the Argos Eyes Drama Society at Saint Peter’s College met one night in a tiny Jersey City attic and talked about starting a theater where they could put on plays that challenged them artistically and attracted local audiences. By the end of the meeting, that group of aspiring playmakers became the Attic Ensemble.

     Several theaters and more than a hundred plays later, the Attic Ensemble has settled into the Barrow Mansion on Wayne Street in Jersey City, a block from the Grove Street PATH in a hip neighborhood where the company continues to stretch and grow. Continue reading THE SECRETS IN THE ATTIC
