220-215 -Historic Health Care Bill Passes the House of Representatives

Late Saturday night the House of Representatives approved a historic bill to remake the U.S. health-care system, Giving President  Barack Obama  a key procedural victory having made Health Care as one of his top priorities.

The Bill passed 220-215 after a lengthy and sometimes emotional day of debate on the nearly 2,000-page measure.

The action on health reform  now moves to the Senate.

Christie Wins New Jersey Govenor Race

governor_picGovenor Jon Corzine lost his bid for re-election to Chris Christie today. In his concession speech out going  Gov. Corzine pledged to work with Govenor- Elect Chrisite and added he will continue to work for all democratic programs set forth by his and the Democratic party.

 Governor -Elect Christopher J. Christie becomes the 55th  Govenor of New Jersey. The first Republican to be elected in  the last 12 years in a state wide election.

225px-us_attorney_chris_christieIn his acceptance speech the jubilant Christie appeared on the stage to Bruce Springsteens song “Born to Run” his first words to his supporters “Hey New Jersey we did it.”  which caused the crowd to chant over and over “Yes we did, yes we did.” When Chrisite went to thank the crowd they chanted over and over “Thank you , Thank you, thank you.”

Christie then when on to say that his call from out going Govenor Corzine was gracious and that Corzine pledged to work with the Christie/ Guadagmo administration.  He spoke of being born in Newark and then outlined some of his initiatives for the next four years and acknowledged the work that lay ahead for the next four years.

Little Kids Rock Raises over $160,000 to Put Music Education Back in

Pictured with Clarence  Clemons is Jersey City student, Jade Adams of P.S. 29, recently performed with legendary E Street Band member Clarence Clemons at a fundraiser held by Little Kids Rock on Oct. 22 at B.B King Blues Club in New York City. The “Right to Rock” benefit raised over $160,000 to restore and revitalize music education in public schools nationwide.  
Adams, 12, performed Jailhouse Rock with Clarence Clemons and a student band from the Bronx. She also performed her original song, Change, with the student band, whom she met that evening. Adams’ song was selected as a grand prize winner in the 2009 Little Kids Rock songwriting contest.
Little Kids Rock currently reaches nearly 2500 underserved students in Jersey City and Newark, and over 42,000 nationwide. Here is a high-reolution photograph of Jade and Clarence at the event:

On a 30 acre parcel of land in Bayonne NJ that lay dormant for nearly 26 years on Route 440. New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine, Bayonne Mayor; Mark Smith, Bayonne City Council President; Vincent LoRe, Bayonne Local Redevelopment Agency Director; Christopher Patella, and respresentatives of the New York Bayonne Cameron Group: Eric Alderman,  and others broke ground for the construction of the  Bayonne Crossings Project Shopping Center.

brealing-ground-bayonne-crossing-mallIn his speech to the 200 plus attendees Governor Corzine spoke of the Jobs that will be created by the construction of the Mall, emphasing “Jobs, Jobs, Jobs, will be created with the building and opening of this mall“.The Govenor said he was proud to announce that 1200 construction jobs will be filled, and 900 retail jobs will be created.  And  Bayonne will receive Urban Enterprise Zone revenues which could equal into the millions. These are funds paid back by the state to the city from the 3.5 % sales tax.

The Govenor also said that Mayor Smith of Bayonne worked very hard in his committment to seeing this project become a reality,  Gov. Corzine praised  and thanked Mayor Mark Smith and everyone involved in the project .

The mall tenants: Who have signed leases to date are: Walmart and  Lowe’s which are the anchor stores, and  Sonic Drive Inn.  Also scheduled as tenants:  Sleepy’s, Friday’s, Longhorn, and NYSC (New York Sport Centers). The first store is expected to open in December of 2010.

While heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, Christopher Pierro, a 35-year-old North Bergen resident, attributes being alive today because of a lifesaving emergency angioplasty he received by board certified emergency physicians and interventional cardiologists at Christ Hospital.
