BUSINESS DISTRICT ALLIANCE OF FORT LEE ANSWERS THE CALL TO HELP EDGEWATER FIRE VICTIMS
Fort Lee—Not long after a devastating fire at an
 displaced about 1,000 residents the Business District Alliance (BDA) of Fort Lee board members sprang into action to offer help.  First, they all agreed to dip into their budget to donate nearly $5,000.00 by purchasing gift cards to local businesses. (The gift cards can be used at area restaurants and other businesses and were selected based on a priority list of essential items provided by Edgewater Strong, a local charity leading the relief efforts.) Next BDA Board Members mobilized the area business owners and other stakeholders in Fort Lee to join their efforts with a match of their own. As a result, hundreds of gift cards have been collected with a collective value of over $2,400.00. This figure coupled with the BDA donation brings the grand total to more than $7,100. The cards will be distributed by Edgewater Strong (see www.edgewaterstrong.com for info on how to obtain).

California is 3,410 miles away whether you go by train, plane or car. Henry Greenfield, 24, of Jersey City rode his 2015 Fuji Touring Bike from New Jersey to California, journeying through the states in 50 days. Greenfield made the trip, facing extreme temperature changes and with 70 pounds of supplies on his bike to raise money for a California theater group’s hearing-loss program. Bayonne  Mayor Jimmy Davis recently  announced that the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has provided new information about the latest developments in the Bayonne Bridge construction project.

Each year, more than 700,000 U.S. men and women are released from prisons, and most struggle to start a new way of life. The obvious discrimination that accompanies a conviction record is one enormous barrier to former inmates’ successful return to their communities. However, most often these individuals lack the education and skills necessary for meaningful employment.

The surprise was part of an event today to celebrate Fort Lee’s McDonald’s being named Top 10 in Overall Customer Satisfaction* by McDonald’s USA. Hernandez and ten other top performing employees were entered into a random drawing to win prizes including XBOX One Entertainment Systems, Madden NFL 15 games, and a prize package for two to this year’s Super Bowl in Arizona.

After the presents have been opened on Christmas Day, it’s always fun to go out and catch a movie. That’s what Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp and Stephen Sondheim fans will be doing when the movie musical INTO THE WOODS opens nationwide on Dec. 25th.
Meryl Streep stars as the Wicked Witch and a troupe of wickedly talented stars including Johnny Depp, Anna Kendrick, Christine Baranski and Bayonne’s Tammy Blanchard join her for a romp in the woods. “Be careful what you wish for†is the film’s tagline because although it’s about Grimm Fairy Tales, this is no kiddie movie. Sondheim and co-writer James Lapine have taken several fairy tale characters on loopy adventures where very adult things happen, and not every journey ends happily ever after.
Disney’s INTO THE WOODS is the filmed version of the Tony Award winning musical which debuted on Broadway in 1987 starring Bernadette Peters as the wicked witch, and directed by Hal Prince. It has been performed throughout the world, has had several revivals here and in London, and has taken almost 30 years to go from stage to screen.
During her career, Bayonne’s Tammy Blanchard earned Emmy and Golden Globe Awards for her portrayal of Judy Garland in LIFE WITH JUDY GARLAND; ME AND MY SHADOWS; and two Tony Award nominations for supporting roles in HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS…(with “Harry Potter†star Daniel Radcliffe) and GYPSY starring Bernadette Peters. Lucky New Year Traditions

 At 11:59 pm on New Year’s Eve, many of us will turn to the TV or computer to watch the ball drop in Times Square. Last year, one million people braved the cold to watch the ball slide down the pole atop One Times Square on 42nd Street and now, more than one hundred years since the ball first dropped in 1907, we’ll be watching a crystal ball this time ring in the New Year.
 It’s tradition. Â
Throughout the world, people celebrate New Year’s Day with traditions passed down through generations and we’ve compiled a sampling below.
