Jersey City Medical Center Honors Hospital Staff Veterans at Annual Veterans Day Commemoration  

Jersey City Medical Center commemorated Veterans Day on Tuesday with a special flag raising ceremony to honor hospital staff that served or are in service in the United States Armed Forces.  Michael Prilutsky, President and CEO, Jersey City Medical Center led the ceremony and recognized a dozen veterans from the different military branches.

Jersey City Medical Center to Hold ‘Race for JCMC EMS’ Event at RPM Raceway

 JERSEY CITY, N.J. (Oct. 31, 2017) – Jersey City Medical Center  will hold the first-ever “Race for JCMC EMS” at RPM Raceway, 99 Caven Point Road, Jersey City, on Nov. 4 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Guests at the inaugural event have an opportunity to drive on two tracks and will be able to learn more about Jersey City Medical Center’s Emergency Medical Services, CPR training, health screenings and other programs and services offered by the Medical Center.

INVESTIGATION BEGINS DOWNED PIPER PA-28 PLANE BAYONNE NEW JERSEY

Small plane crashes on Avenue E BayonneThe Piper PA-28 singe-engine plane that  crashed on Sunday, February 19th, 2017 on Bayonne’s Avenue E is now being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board.

The many parts of the downed plane that spread over the 2 block area between 40th and 42nd street in Bayonne  have been collected for examination and the investigation has begun on what caused the single -engine plane to crash.

The pilot Geroge Pettaway 56, of Wheatley Heights, Long Island recuperating in  Jersey City’s Medical Center is scheduled to be released on Wednesday, February 22nd.

The crash occurred after Pettaway began experiencing problems with the plane near the Statue of Liberty and had hoped to land the small plane in New Jersey then crashing  on Avenue E.

Pettaway’s plane landed upside down not before hitting power lines, and damaging four cars.

Opening of Application Process for the 2017 Jersey City Summer Internship Program Announced by Mayor Fulop

More than 3,000 young Jersey City residents have participated in the JC Summer Works Initiative

City Hall Jersey City  Jersey City Summer Internship Program (JCSI), a youth employment initiative started by the Fulop administration in 2014 that connects Jersey City public high school students to paid internships at the city’s leading companies and institutions while also earning academic credit was announced today by Mayor Steven M. Fulop  that the opening of the online application process has begun. JCSI is a part of the city’s broader Jersey City Summer Works initiative, which has provided summer employment and enrichment for more than 3,000 young people in city departments and agencies, corporations and nonprofits since the initiative began.

Over the Years 350,000 Babies Were Born at Margaret Hague Hospital…

Reunions usually happen due to a shared experience: graduating from the same school, serving in the same military unit or working in the same job. But it is almost unheard of to hold a reunion for those who were born in the same hospital.

That is, unless you first came into the world at the Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital.

The legendary facility in Jersey City that for over 40 years, until its closing in 1979, had more than 350,000 babies delivered there was in the spotlight on May 16 when some of those “Margaret Hague Babies” – now full-grown adults – gathered at Zeppelin Hall in the city’s Downtown section.

The event, organized by the Jersey City Medical Center and the LibertyHealth Foundation, was attended by over 200 guests including well-known figures such as former New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey, now the executive director of the Jersey City Employment & Training Program, who was born at the Margaret Hague in November 1957, and Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop, who was not born at the Margaret Hague. If you were born in Jersey City from 1931 to 1979, chances are good you greeted the world from one of the many Art Deco delivery rooms at the Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital founded by Jersey City Mayor Frank “Boss” Hague and named for his mother.

The Margaret Hague – where celebs like Martha Stewart and Frank Sinatra, Jr. were born – was part of a cluster of hospitals known as the Jersey City Medical Center which were turned into condominiums called The Beacon several years ago with a new state-of-the-art medical center built to take its place just a few blocks away on Grand Street.

To celebrate the common bond shared by those who were birthed at Margaret Hague, the LibertyHealth Foundation, the philanthropic arm of JCMC has kicked off a T-Shirt contest with a $250 cash prize for a “Born at the Margaret Hague” logo/design to be used on T-Shirts and other items that will be for sale at the “Born at the Margaret Hague Reunion” held in May. Jersey City’s popular half marathon championship marks its 20th year! Recreational and elite runners from around the country can compete for $3,000 in prize money on a USA Track & Field- certified course that interweaves with Hudson River Waterfront Walkway from Newport to Liberty State Park. The open-air race, sponsored this year by DirectEdge, has been called the most beautiful course in the Tri-State area, complete with spectacular views of Lower Manhattan, the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and the Verrazano Bridge.

Thousands will be on hand to  cheer them on from the sidelines. To date, over 2,400 participants have signed up, already outpacing last year’s numbers. Entered in this years race are a few noteworthy participants:

 New Jerseyans know diners like they know Turnpike exits. They even know the best diners at Turnpike exits. There’s something about a diner’s home-cooked fare and no frills atmosphere that conjures up images of Edward Hopper paintings and memories of 3 am conversations over coffee and pie.

 bobby-and-guy-1-thThe diner mystique even has a TV following with viewers tuning in to the Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives,” where host Guy Fieri travels the U.S. eating blue plate specials from the menus of greasy spoons. A while back, one of the stops on Fieri’s show was the Brownstone Diner & Pancake Factory on Jersey Avenue in Jersey City across from the Jersey City Medical Center. brownstone-gu-bobby-zoe-mar-08-copyBut unlike many of the diners featured on the show, the Brownstone is more upscale and the menu features entrees you’d likely find in New York and at higher prices.

 The Brownstone offers diner fare, the eggs, burgers and sandwiches are always on the menu, but it’s definitely more than a diner. It’s a nice, easy-going restaurant that serves great food from traditional recipes that go back to when owners Zoe and Bobby Bournias were kids learning the restaurant business from their parents Irene and Peter who owned M&A diner back in the 1960s and ’70s. They converted it to the Newport Pancake House in the 1980s and when their father Pete was going to sell the business in 2004, Zoe and Bobby decided to leave their careers and run the business with their dad. They renovated and expanded and in 2005 re-named the eatery the Brownstone Diner & Pancake Factory, transforming it from a plain-and-simple diner to a family restaurant with a menu that goes far beyond blue plate specials.
