The City of Hoboken is continuing with a number of quality of life projects this week. Below are construction updates on the 5-acre Northwest Resiliency Park, flood infrastructure projects with the North Hudson Sewerage Authority (NHSA), and utility maintenance by NHSA and SUEZ. Schedules may change pending weather conditions.
Construction continues on the 5-acre Northwest Resiliency Park, which will be New Jersey’s largest resiliency park. The park will have above and below ground infrastructure to withhold up to 2 million gallons of rainwater to help mitigate local flooding. The contractor will undertake the following activities this week, subject to weather conditions and snow cover on the project site:Â
Dept. of Recreation & Youth Development Activities and Programs to Return Starting Next Week with a Focus on Outdoor Opportunities
JERSEY CITY –Mayor Steven M. Fulop announced today the launch of the online application process for Jersey City Youth Works,a renowned multi-program initiative providing meaningful summer employment and enrichment opportunities to more than 3,000 youth, ages 15-24 years old since its inception in 2014.
This year’s Youth Works program will focus on outdoor jobs at the City’s two public pools, six summer camps, and various sports leagues. Working in partnership with the Department of Recreation & Youth Development, the Division of Parks will also utilize youth support for park maintenance to ensure safe, clean spaces are available for athletes, campers, and park-goers throughout the City.
“We are making strides towards a return to normalcy, which is particularly critical for our youth. We’ve worked to safely bring back our youth development and sports programming in order to empower our young residents who are at a pivotal age, because providing this hands-on approach to professional development will ultimately help shape their career paths and long-term goals,†said Mayor Fulop.
Department of Recreation & Youth Development programs that are set to return the week of March 15, 2021, include:

Summer camps will soon be offered at six locations citywide: Berry Lane Park, Enos Jones Park, Bayside Park, Martucci Field, Pershing Field, and Thomas McGovern Park (Country Village).
The application process for Jersey City Youth Works begins with the online application, which is now open through April 11, 2021. Individuals who are selected are then interviewed by representatives of participating organizations.
Under the direction of Mayor Davis, OEM provides weekly updates on the status of Bayonne in relation to the COVID-19 Health Emergency. All efforts are now geared towards the vaccination process for our residents.
The Vaccination Rollout for New Jersey is currently in Phase 1A. Any healthcare worker, first responder, senior over 65, or anyone 18-64 with a serious medical condition is qualified to be vaccinated at this time.

Private Sites – You can be vaccinated at the RiteAid (1097 B’way), Riverside Medical (432 B’way) and StopNShop (Lefante Way Shopping Center). Please go to their websites to register.
Covid-19 Prevention – Positive cases of the coronavirus continue to decline in Bayonne. We have less than 130 residents currently positive and 16 Covid-Positive residents are presently admitted to BMC. A new testing site has opened at Ahern Veterans Stadium. Tues/Thur 1pm -7pm and Sat 9am-2pm. NO Appointment needed. This test is PCR, it is free for those without insurance, and you can stay in your vehicle (if you drive). You can do either saliva or nasal test.
Programs will Offer Funding and Support to Underserved Sectors of the City The Jersey City Arts Council (JCAC) is proud to launch two new grant opportunities for artists living in Jersey City: the Antenna Grant for Women in the Arts and the Jersey City Artist Recovery Fund. With these grants the JCAC hopes to provide increased arts education access to underserved groups and economic support for those in the community who have lost work due to COVID.
The Antenna Grant for Women in the Arts Developed in partnership with artist Shamona Stokes, this scholarship grant will offer financial support and mentorship for young womxn (female identifying) in Jersey City pursuing a career in the arts. The program was initiated by Stokes, who sought to give back to the community by donating the profits from the sale of her large-scale sculpture Antenna. The grants are presented with further sponsorship from SILVERMAN, and will include practical opportunities such as connecting with professional artists and tours of Mana Contemporary.
The grant is open to womxn artists between the ages of 16-23 who show artistic promise and a commitment to pursuing a career in the visual arts. Priority will be given to artists of color and those with financial need.
Mayor Jimmy Davis announced that Coronavirus drive-up testing will take place at Ahern Veterans Stadium in Bayonne on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, the testing site began on Tuesday, February 23. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, testing will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Testing will take place on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Testing will start on Tuesday, February 23 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Testing will occur until further notice.Â
The testing program for Bayonne is in partnership with Immediate Care-Walk In Co. of Red Bank NJ. A drive-through testing center, with walk-up individuals permitted, is being established in the parking lot behind Ahern Veterans Stadium. The stadium is located by Newark Bay near the foot of West 25th Street.
Immediate Care-Walk In Co. is entirely responsible for all aspects of the testing including the set-up, maintenance, and break-down of the testing site itself. Immediate Care-Walk In Co personnel will be the primary contact persons to all private vehicles and individuals approaching and contained within the zone.
The persons to be tested will drive or walk to the Ahern Veterans Stadium parking lot (northern entrance) and pull up in lanes (set up with cones) and they will be tested while inside their vehicle or standing in a designated area. They will walk their specimen into a container and fill out some paperwork. Total time is just a few minutes for each test. They will then depart via the southern exit of the lot.
Those being tested will have the option of doing either a self-administered saliva test or requesting a staff person to administer a nasal test. Results will be available in 48 to 72 hours.
Previously, testing sites in Bayonne included Bayonne Hospital and at the Bayonne Community Museum. Testing programs at those two sites have ended.
A new partnership was announced today by Mayor Steven M. Fulop between AeroFarms, the world leader in vertical farming, and the Jersey City Housing Authority (JCHA) with a resolution going before the Jersey City Municipal Council this week to provide free, nutritious food to residents most in need by opening two vertical farming locations within public houses sites – Curries Woods and Marion Gardens. The public housing farming locations, which will be funded by the City, will greatly increase healthy food access where needed most while also encouraging our most vulnerable residents to pursue a healthier lifestyle.

Fulop announced a new partnership with Devils Arena Entertainment (DAE), the largest purveyor of entertainment in New Jersey and operator of Prudential Center, one of North America’s top 10 most booked arenas, to move forward on a unique $72 million agreement for the transformative restoration of the historic Loew’s Theatre. The revitalization intends to transform the century-old theatre into a state-of-the-art 3,300-seat venue to attract both superstar and up-and-coming performing artists, serve as an engine of economic development and hub for the local Journal Square community, and expand Jersey City’s growing reputation as an unparalleled arts destination in New Jersey.

Rosemarie Martinez former Chief of Staff to Bayonne Mayor James Davis made history recently when the City Council of Bayonne unanimously voted to name her Bayonne’s City Tax Collector, giving her the distinct title as the first Hispanic to hold that position.
In her capacity as Chief of Staff to Mayor Davis she learned the inner working of the City, giving her experience with working with many departments and Leaders within Bayonne’s city government.
According to an article by Al Sullivan in TAPinto Bayonne, Mayor Jimmy Davis said that he appointed Martinez to the position, formerly filled by Joanne Sisk, because she is “extremely qualified for the job.â€Â
Her education background is impressive, earning her a degree in Applied Sciences from Jersey City University and a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Rutgers University and her resume is equally impressive besides working as Chief of Staff for Mayor Davis, Martinez, was administrative assistant for then Hudson County Sheriff Juan Perez, and also assistant director of Rutgers Business School.
Working in the Tax Office since 2019 Martinez has passed all required courses and she said her priority as Tax Collector is to provide Bayonne residents with a more efficient service.
