 Jersey City’s artist community – painters, sculptors, musicians, film and theater professionals – give this urban city an added vibrancy with a dash of cool. Arts collectives like Pro Arts and Art House Productions – and the Hudson County Division of Cultural Affairs – do their part to support artists through exhibitions, performances and group shows and the Jersey City Redevelopment Authority has been giving well-known street artists highway embankments and building facades to enhance the city’s visual beauty and community identity.  Ten years ago, David Ng, converted an old bank building on Montgomery Street in Downtown Jersey City into a restaurant, cocktail lounge and sushi bar known to neighborhood residents and business professionals as Grand Banks. Located two blocks from the Exchange Place station on the PATH and the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail, Grand Banks serves some of the tastiest Sushi, Chinese, Japanese and Fusion Cuisine in Hudson.

Avon Voices Voting Begins Soon!  Help Make Dreams Come True for Your Hometown’s Singing Sensation

 Edgewater, NJ – May 11, 2011 – Local Edgewater resident, Christen Satchelle, has been named a Round 1 Contender in Avon Voices, Avon’s first-ever global singing talent search. Christen was selected as one of the more than 175 global Contenders, from over 50 countries, who have just completed professional recording sessions in either Nashville, Paris, Hong Kong or Rio, with performance videos available for voting at AvonVoices.com starting April 22.   Ultimately, the public vote and the vote of the celebrity judging panel will determine two women – one an Avon Representative – who will receive an opportunity to record a professionally-produced album.

The Everything Jersey City Festival will Celebrate Community Pride and UEZ Support at a Time when Budget Cuts Loom

 If you don’t know by now, one-third of Jersey City is a designated Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ\) a designation that offers local businesses tax and other financial incentives to help grow their businesses and stimulate local economy.  Sale tax revenues generated by UEZ businesses go for economic development and neighborhood improvements like street lights, paving, flowerboxes — and other programs that give constituents a feeling of pride in their community.

To celebrate the UEZ’s success revitalizing the Heights section of Jersey City – the neighborhood nestled on the cliff above Hoboken – the Central Avenue Special Improvement District (CASID) Management Corporation presents the Everything Jersey City Festival which takes place Sat., May 21st from 11 am-to-6 pm along Central Avenue from Congress to Hutton Streets.  Book lovers, Kindle and Nook lovers and those who just adore the Weehawken Public Library for the stellar services it provides are invited to step out on Tuesday, April 26th for an evening of delicious food and wine at “A Taste of Weehawken” at the Lincoln Harbor Food Court (next door to Houlihan’s) on the Weehawken Waterfront. All proceeds from this fundraising event go to the library’s special programming.

 The Barge Inn is a warm and cozy Italian restaurant on the corner of 3rd and Monmouth Streets in Jersey City that offers lovers of Italian cuisine authentic family recipes in an atmosphere that makes you feel like you were invited to dinner at a friend’s home. And that’s just the way Linda and Peter “Bitzy” Paldino and Linda’s brother Richie Marto, who oversees The Barge Inn’s bar around the corner, want you to feel.

 Linda and Bitzy have been married 31 years and not only are they partners in life, they’re partners in business. They have a son Richard who is  a Detective on the East Orange Police Force for 6 years. Bitzy and Linda  have worked side-by-side for many years and  they even created one of the house specials named for him: Pork Chops Bitzy served with potatoes, onions, sweet and hot peppers ($22). The menu and a blackboard of daily specials offer variations of seafood, meat and poultry dishes that are cooked to order and made with fresh ingredients delivered that day.
