At an early morning press conference on Wednesday September 21st, at Bar Majestic in Downtown Jersey City, Bill Sorvino, Festival Director of the Golden Door Film Festival and organizers along with Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy in attendance announced to the public the three day event and all  films nominated at the first film festival to be held in Jersey City from October 13 to October 16th, 2011

and the Jersey City 9/11 Memorial Committee will observe the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks with the annual 9/11 Memorial Service “Reflections,” at 8:20 a.m. on Sunday, September 11, 2011, at the foot of Grand Street on the Jersey City Waterfront.  Like a femme fatale in a “dime novel” Jersey City has had its share of bumpy roads, raw deals and men that done her wrong. But the past is the past and take a look at her now, bustling with new construction and waterfront with a skyline of skyscrapers that have given the old girl a much-needed facelift and a shot at the brass ring. Â
At the 4th annual Book Fair hosted by Jersey City’s Free Public Library on Sat, Sept. 10th in Jersey City’s beautiful Van Vorst Park, twenty local and no-so-local writers will exhibit their newly published books – all with some connection to Jersey City. Â Many of these writers have taken their experiences and/or fascination with Jersey City’s past and placed them on the pages of their new books, not just as a backdrop to the action, but as one of the characters that grabs your attention like a cold-blooded blonde with a pearl-handled Derringer. On Sun, Sept 11th, “Finding One Another: the 10th Anniversary Tribute to the Canine Search & Rescue Community of 9/11â€Â will honor canine working dog teams on the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11th attacks on the World Trade Center. “Finding One Another†has identified more than 950 working dog teams (civilian, government, law enforcement and military) who served in response to 9/11. These teams were involved with search and rescue, recovery and security efforts at Ground Zero, the Pentagon, Shanksville, and the Fresh Kills Landfill recovery site. On the morning of the 9/11 attack, Jersey City photographer Sandra Swieder grabbed her camera and notebook and headed to the waterfront where she captured the heroic rescue and recovery efforts of firefighters, police officers, doctors, nurses, EMTs and other volunteers. In the days and months that followed, Swieder continued to photograph and collect stories from survivors, witnesses and emergency responders this side of the Hudson.
 On Sept. 1 and running through Sept. 15, Art House Productions, a non-profit organization committed to the development and presentation of performing and visual arts in Jersey City presents “From Across the River,” a photography exhibition by Swieder that captures the events of September 11th from the New Jersey perspective.  Cutting edge rock ‘n roll and comfort food that won’t bust your wallet are just two great reasons why Maxwell’s in Hoboken still grooves as a club and restaurant. Ever since the 1980s, Maxwell’s has been the Hoboken venue for up-and-coming bands and some famous ones, too, like Bruce Springsteen who filmed his “Glory Days” video at Maxwell’s, directed by filmmaker John Sayles who lived down the block.

Popular Downtown Jersey City Eatery expands into Hoboken
Adnan Kwara, Ibby to his friends and customers knows a lot about preparing delicious authentic Middle Eastern Cuisine. In 2009. 2010 and also in 2011, Kwara’s restaurant; Ibby’s Falafel, was voted Best of the Best Falafel by New Jersey Monthly Magazine. Since 1996 Ibby’s Falafel has been a popular stop for the many residents living in downtown Jersey City and the Hudson County area. After August 31st,  Hudson County residents will have the opportunity to frequent two Ibby’s Falafel restaurants with the opening of Ibby’s second store in Hudson County  located at 614 Washington Street in Hoboken. Ibby also has a third store in Freehold, New Jersey.Our photographer was on hand for the August 31st opening last night and shot these photos.
