As a buyer, a vehicle’s safety rating is a crucial and complex component to consider. It concerns not only physical equipment, but also a car’s performance in challenging environments. With this in mind, AxleGeeks sought to identify the most dangerous car brands by studying the percentage of model lines within each brand that earned the IIHS Top Safety Pick or the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ awards.

The IIHS awards its Top Safety Pick accolades to vehicles based on a crashworthiness rating that considers small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraints and seats. To be a Top Safety Pick, a vehicle must earn a “good” rating in each category as well as a basic rating for front crash prevention. To receive the Top Safety Pick+ rating, a model must exceed the Top Safety Pick criteria and obtain an advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention.

Using this information, AxleGeeks composed a list of the brands with the fewest model lines scoring Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+ awards, and created a combined percentage based on each brand’s performance in each category. Using that metric, we ranked each brand from least to most dangerous. Because high-end brands like Porsche, Jaguar, Maserati, and Land Rover often do not test their cars with IIHS and do not receive ratings, they are not included in the study.

Flowers, feathers and frou-frou from Hudson’s finest dollar stores adorned dresses, hats and other fantastical costumes worn by artists and arts-lovers who braved the blustery temps last Saturday to attend Art House Productions’ Snow Ball in Jersey City.

Held in the non-profit’s black box theater and art gallery on Magnolia Street in Journal Square, the evening gala was the organization’s 10th annual fundraiser for its performing and visual arts programs. The sell-out crowd of artists and supporters didn’t disappoint as they danced, schmoozed and celebrated the arts group’s artistic contribution to the Jersey City community. .

To open the evening, singer Giselle, who received help from Art House to create her new single and music video, sang tunes from her repertoire with guitarist Adam Tilzer before Executive Director Christine Goodman took to the stage to address the crowd.  Continue reading SNOW BALL EFFECT- Local Artists support Art House Productions’ at 10th Annual Gala

Cuban hats adorn the windows and traditional Cuban cuisine graces the plates at Fort Lee’s newest addition to Main Street: Babalu Cuban Café. Since opening the bistro in December, owners Raul Vicente, Jr, his partner Patricia Matos, and their team of crackerjack cooks conjure up tasty dishes for new customers who are soon becoming regulars.

The café’s name pays homage to the most famous TV couple of the 1950s, Lucy and Ricky Ricardo (Lucille Ball & Desi Arnaz) with posters from “I Love Lucy,” their famous TV Show adorning the walls.

Super Bowl 50 Recap

The Denver Broncos defeated the Carolina Panthers 24-10 in Super Bowl 50 on Sunday. Broncos linebacker Von Miller was named the game MVP after a staunch defensive performance, with 2.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and six tackles. Miller and the Broncos defense proved too much for Cam Newton and the Panthers offense, forcing four turnovers. The Panthers were also flagged for 11 penalties and missed a field goal. Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning, who many believe will retire before next season, went 13 for 23 for 141 yards and an interception.
