“We thank Insight Into Academia for this honor, and we celebrate our faculty and staff who work tirelessly to support student success,” said HCCC President Dr. Christopher Reber. “Devising and implementing successful academic and workforce development programs has benefitted thousands of HCCC students. Our campuses are hubs for nurturing growth and shaping the future of teaching, learning, and leadership. This award reflects our college-wide commitment to innovation. Hudson is Home!”
The “Top Colleges for Innovation” Award recognizes institutions where creativity and measureable impact are woven into their mission to better serve the evolving needs of students, employees, and businesses. HCCC stands out for integrating innovation into its mission, strategic plan, student success initiatives, partnerships, programs, curricula, and career pathways. These initiatives include:
- Hudson Scholars, the Bellwether Award-winning blueprint for community colleges that increases completion rates fivefold for traditionally underrepresented students at HCCC, leading to a 70% reduction in historic equity and achievement gaps.
- Gateway to Innovation (GTI), a program that connects service industry workers to recession-resistant careers. Thousands of students have attained industry-recognized credentials in finance, health care, information technology, and logistics through GTI programs.
- Holz Techik Apprenticeship Program with Eastern Millwork, Inc. (EMI) that provides pathways to debt-free associate and bachelor’s degrees in Advanced Manufacturing and Technical Studies. Apprentices split their time between HCCC and EMI, earn a salary and benefits, and are hired as engineers specializing in woodworking design, construction, and installation.
- New Jersey Reentry Corporation, a partnership that provides formerly incarcerated individuals with credentials in Computer Basics, Welding, Phlebotomy, Culinary Arts, General Construction, and more.
- HCCC English as a Second Language (ESL) Bridge Program, a 60-hour jump start program to accelerate language proficiency, taught by bilingual instructors who utilize high-touch instruction and fully-digital course materials to increase accessibility.
- 100-Day Journey Home employee onboarding process that strengthens connection, engagement, and long-term retention of faculty, staff, and administration. The initiative includes mentors, periodic HR check-ins and dashboards, personalized development, compliance training, lunch with the president, webinars and wellness fairs, employee newsletters, and more.
- STEM Excellence in Practice through which HCCC professors mentor students in projects such as hydroponics systems, 3D-printed rocket components, and inventions, integrating project-based learning and research into coursework.
- Artificial Intelligence Strategy and Governance Council (AISCG) that aligns academic, technology and administrative leadership, guiding responsible AI adoption across teaching, learning, and operations. The AISGC includes a cross-section of IT specialists, faculty, administrators, staff and students.
