Hudson County Community College and Rutgers University-Newark Sign CONNECTTransfer Pathways Agreement

On Monday, May 4, Hudson County Community College (HCCC) and Rutgers University–Newark officially launched the CONNECT Transfer Program – expanding seamless pathways from associate to bachelor’s degrees with enhanced transfer, advising, and support.

Hudson County Community College (HCCC) and Rutgers University-Newark (RU-N) have worked collaboratively for many years. More than a decade ago, the two higher education institutions forged a dual-admission agreement that made it easier for HCCC students who earned their associate degrees to transfer seamlessly to RU-N and attain baccalaureate degrees in Art, Biology, Computer Arts, Marketing and Supply Chain Management, Criminal Justice, English, Environmental Science, Public and Nonprofit Administration, and Theatre.

On Monday, May 4, 2026, HCCC President Dr. Christopher Reber and RU-N Chancellor Dr. Tonya Smith-Jackson signed the CONNECT Transfer Pathways Agreement that builds upon the longstanding relationship and offers HCCC students even more baccalaureate options and benefits. 

The new CONNECT Transfer Pathways Agreement provides HCCC students who earn their HCCC Associate in Science in Business Administration degree with the opportunity to transfer seamlessly to Rutgers University-Newark Bachelor of Science degrees in Marketing, Chain Supply Management, and Leadership and Management; and Bachelor of Arts degrees in Public Administration programs. Additional program pathways are in process in the areas of Biology, Psychology, Social Work, Computer Science, Education, and Criminal Justice.

Hudson County Community College Class of 2025 Graduates Share Their Inspiring Academic Journeys

 Hudson County Community College is holding its 48th Annual Commencement Ceremony on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at Sports Illustrated Arena in Harrison, NJ. The College’s Class of 2025 is its largest ever, with 1,540 graduates.

The Hudson County Community College (HCCC) Class of 2025 is the largest in the College’s history, with more than 1,540 students graduating. They include single parents, siblings, career changers, older adults, immigrants striving to achieve the American dream, lifelong learners, and others.  

The HCCC 48th Annual Commencement Ceremony will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at 10 a.m. in Sports Illustrated Arena, Harrison, NJ. The event will include greetings and introductions from HCCC President Dr. Christopher Reber, HCCC Board of Trustees Chair Jeanette Peña, and Hudson County Executive Craig Guy. Dr. Darryl Jones, Vice President for Academic Affairs, will host the Presentation of Graduates. Master of Ceremonies is Senior Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Dr. Lisa Dougherty.

Hudson County Community College Receives 2024Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Health Professions Award

The Hudson County Community College (HCCC) School of Nursing and Health Professions has been recognized with the Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Health Professions Award. Pictured here, the HCCC Class of 2024 Nursing Graduates.

HCCC is the only community college in the United States to earn this honor.


Jersey City, NJ –   The Hudson County Community College (HCCC) School of Nursing and Health Professions has been presented with the 2024 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Health Professions Award from Insight Into Diversity magazine. The award is a national honor recognizing United States colleges and universities offering health programs that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion. HCCC is the sole community college in the United States to receive this award.

“Hudson County Community College is proud to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the 70 institutions receiving this award that offer baccalaureate, master’s and doctoral degrees,” said HCCC President Dr. Christopher Reber. “We are keenly aware of the important role our School of Nursing and Health Professions plays in addressing the healthcare workforce shortage by offering courses in a broad range of fields and providing students with the resources and support they need to succeed.”

“The HEED Health Professions Award process includes a comprehensive and rigorous application with questions relating to the recruitment and retention of students and employees — and best practices for both; continued leadership and support for diversity; and other aspects of campus diversity and inclusion,” said Lenore Pearlstein, publisher of Insight Into Diversity magazine. “We take a detailed approach to reviewing each application in deciding who will be named a Health Professions HEED Award recipient. Our standards are high, and we look for schools where diversity and inclusion are woven into the work being done every day across their campus.”

Insight Into Diversity magazine selected the HCCC School of Nursing and Health Professions in recognition of the College’s focus on recruiting and retaining traditionally underrepresented and first-generation college students. The College was recognized specifically for the following initiatives and outcomes:

Hudson County Community College Announces Plans for Fall 2020 Classes and Operations

 Final determination of scheduling rests with New Jersey’s direction and guidance.

Hudson County Community College (HCCC) President Dr. Chris Reber announced that most fall 2020 for-credit, workforce development, and noncredit courses will be offered online or remotely, with many lab, culinary, health sciences and related courses offered on-ground subject to state approval and adherence to safety protocols recommended by the health care community.

Hudson County Community College Selected for NJ Tuition-free Pilot Program

 
September 27, 2018, Jersey City, NJ – New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy announced today that Hudson County Community College has been named one of thirteen New Jersey community colleges to pilot the New Jersey Community College Opportunity Grant (CCOG) in Spring 2019.

Five Films Feature Mermaids, Wrestlers, and a Pregnant Olympic Hopeful

Filmmaker Delaney Buffett took a film crew to Florida to interview ‘mermaids’ swishing their tales in underwater ballets at the Weeki Wachee Springs mermaid theater for her documentary THE SPRING. This award-winning documentary short can be seen — along with four other shorts by women filmmakers — at Hudson County Community College’s first-ever Indie Film Festival on Thurs, Mar. 15, Thurs, Apr. 12, Tues, Apr. 17, and Sat, Apr. 28.

Along with Delaney Buffett, the filmmakers are all up-and-comers, many of them grads from local films schools who have had their films screened at the Tribecca Film Festival and other competitions. Every day of the HCCC festival, all five films will be shown. They are:  First Match, directed by Olivia Newman about a determined 14-year-old wrestler who prepares for her first co-ed match. Kid Warrior, directed by Vanessa Black, which follows a teen activist who has taken on major oil companies in the fight against climate change.

New Deep South: Kayla, directed by Rosie Haber – a series that explores the LGBTQ culture emerging in the American South; Run Mama Run, directed by Daniele Anastasion about an elite track athlete who continues to train for the Olympic trials while pregnant; and, Delaney Buffett’s The Spring, about the women of Weeki Wachee Springs mermaid theater.

 â€œI’m from South Florida, I grew up there,” Delaney Buffett says. “My parents told me about Weeki Wachee Springs when I was a kid. I remember I was discussing it with my dad. (Delaney’s father is Jimmy Buffett of “Margaritaville” fame.)  I didn’t believe him at first. I went on their website and talked to a couple of friends who made films. We were breaking out, making short-form content and short-form documentaries. My best friend Katie Corwin, and then my other friend, my roommate Chloe Corner and the rest of the crew of women went down there with me and we shot it there.”   Continue reading LIGHTS! CAMERAS! Hudson County Community College provides residents of Hudson County with personal enrichment and professional development opportunities through their Non Traditional Programs Division. Participants may attend programs in person or online. Some classes offered help you gain experience in Culinary Arts, English as a Second Language, Professional & Career Development, Business & Entrepreneurship, Computer Proficiency, Test Prep, and more! Classes are provided by the Center for Business & Industry (CBI), Community Education, and Evening, Weekend & Off-Site Programs.
