Bayonne Celebration at 16th Street Park on Earth Day, and City Wide Clean-Up

 Mayor Davis’ upcoming Earth Day Event  Saturday, April 22nd from 12:00 – 2:00 pm.

This community event combines a citywide clean-up and fun celebration for all to enjoy.    Over FORTY teams have signed up for the citywide clean-up.

The Celebration, which will occur at 16th Street Park, off Avenue A will include hot dogs, ice cream, refreshments, a blow-up slide, and a band for all to enjoy. 

Also several organizations  have agreed to host a table to offer environmental educational material and giveaways.

Councilmen Rivera and Robinson to Introduce Affordable Housing Compliance Ordinance

At-Large Councilman Daniel Rivera and Ward F Councilman Jermaine Robinson are introducing an ordinance at next week’s council meeting that will ensure Jersey City residents are given first priority with regard to the several hundred units of new affordable housing coming online. 

The Affordable Housing Compliance Ordinance, which will be up for a first reading vote next Wednesday, establishes the city’s first ever policy for how affordable housing should be marketed, establishes a priority for Jersey City residents and creates a waitlist process, as well as annual monitoring mechanism. Crows new book released by Author Grace Harney

Most people don’t know this about Bayonne resident Grace Harney when they tell her to play their lottery tickets every day at Garden State News—she’s a writer, and has been since she was a kid. 

And recently, Grace Harney released her debut novel, Crows.  A young adult paranormal mystery, Crows follows foul-mouthed teenage psychic Annie Murphy as she confronts her brother in the disappearance of his witch-girlfriend.  Set in the dead of winter in the fictional Pennsylvania town of Raven City, Annie learns the hard way that seeing isn’t always believing.

Self-published on March 17th of this year, the paperback version of Crows is now available for sale exclusively at Garden State News, which is located at 456 Broadway, Bayonne, across from W. 21st Street.

NJ TURNPIKE INTERCHANGE 14A WORK SCHEDULE FOR NEXT THREE WEEKS

THREE WEEK SCHEDULE AS OF APRIL 14, 2017

 14A Interchange project

The following work is scheduled over the next three weeks:

 

Toll Plaza

  • East side (entering 14A): renovation of existing Toll Utility Building continues.
  • During the weekend of 04/21/17, concrete pavement construction will be performed in Toll Lane 8 upon exiting the Turnpike and asphalt pavement construction will be performed in Toll Lanes 3 & 4 upon entering the Turnpike. This work will be supported by Bayonne and the NJ State Police.

Ramps between the Toll Plaza and the Hudson County Extension (HCE)

  • Widening construction on the ramps to and from the westbound and eastbound HCE is complete to the extent possible and the final alignment has been implemented. Asphalt resurfacing of the ramps will be performed in 2017.
  • Local street level work at Garfield, Avenue C and JFK Boulevard bridges will resume in the Spring of 2017. This work will be supported by Jersey City and Bayonne Police as needed.

Avenue E / Proposed Roundabout

  • New roadway construction on Avenue E near 53rd Street continues. 
  • Deep bridge foundation construction in dedicated work zones continues. This work will be supported by Bayonne Police as needed.
  • New bridge pier construction in dedicated work zones continues.

Connector Bridge (Bridge from the Toll Plaza to Port Jersey Boulevard)

  • Traffic was shifted onto the new Connector Bridge in a two-way temporary traffic pattern. Please CLICK HERE for graphic.
  • Pedestrian usage of the bridge for access to and from Port Jersey Boulevard continues to be prohibited. Please CLICK HERE for shuttle bus pamphlet.
  • During the weekend of 05/05/17 and 05/12/17, new bridge steel installation operations will be performed over NJ Transit’s Hudson-Bergen Light Rail and Conrail’s Industrial Track. During these periods, NJ Transit Light Rail service between 34th Street Station in Bayonne and Danforth Avenue Station in Jersey City will be maintained via NJ Transit bus service. 

Route 440 and Pulaski Street Intersection / Jughandle

  • Ramp roadway construction continues.
  • Median barrier construction on Route 440 continues.
  • Ramp structure construction to southbound Route 440 continues.
  • During the week of 04/24/17, northbound Route 440 traffic will be shifted left (two northbound lanes adjacent to median) and a work zone will be established on the right.

Ramp Area East of Route 440

  • New ramp construction continues.
  • Retaining wall construction continues.
  • Bridge deck construction on the bridge structure over Pulaski Street continues.
  • Roadway construction continues.

Update & FAQ Suez Water on Discolored Water  

 

Updates from SUEZ

As a result of routine maintenance being performed on the Jersey City aqueduct on Thursday evening, sediment disruption occurred in several pipelines and has resulted in cloudy and discolored water for several customers across Jersey City and Hoboken. SUEZ crews have been actively addressing the situation by dispatching investigators to locations that have reported continued issues. Investigators have flushed pipelines to clear out the harmless sediment.
