Jersey City Native Serves Over 20 Years as Navy SubmarinerKings Bay, Georgia – Master Chief Petty Officer Tom Curtin from Jersey City, New Jersey, enlisted in the Navy in 1996 and has spent nearly a third of his career on nuclear powered submarines.
After completing his initial training, Curtin reported to USS Tennessee (SSBN 734) and completed nine strategic deterrent patrols from 1998 to 2004. Art in Bayonne Unveiling of Art on Utility Boxes and Fire Boxes

 
Art in Bayonne, brought out an enthusiastic group of art lovers who visited Bridge Art Gallery at 7th and Broadway for the unveiling of  art on Bayonne’s Utility and Fire Poles on Thursday, October 12th.
 
Artists  Jeff Ware, Stephanie Petersen, Gary Waynans, Maria Lupianez, Samantha Llanes and Tiffany Dancy were selected to 
create art on various utility boxes and fire poles in the Bergen Point section of Bayonne

Director Dee Dee Bottino the call went out looking for artist interested in creating art on Bayonne’s Utility Boxes and Fire Poles.
The art installation was made possible through the efforts of the Bayonne Municipal Council, The Bayonne Urban Enterprise Zone Corporation, Bridge Art Gallery (Cheryl and Chris Mack) Hudson County Office of Cultural & Heritage Affairs and Bayonne Mayor James Davis.
 
Both Mayor Davis and UEZ Director Malloy assured the participants that this current art program was the first of many to come to beautify Bayonne.

JERSEY CITY – Mayor Steven M. Fulop announced today that the administration is advancing a plan to install electric car charging stations that will be open to the public in all six wards of the
city as part of the Fulop administration’s sustainability agenda.

 Seeing the helpless, sad faces of dogs and cats in shelters might be just about enough to shatter your heart into a million and one pieces.

If you’re anything like me, you want to take every homeless animal home and nurse them back to health and happiness. However, if your home and schedule is anything like mine, there simply isn’t enough space or time for each and every one of them.

So, what is a diehard animal lover to do if they aren’t in a place to adopt?

As it turns out, there are plenty of things that we can all do to help local shelters and rescue organizations stay afloat, as well as help them get the animals into good homes.

NJ Turnpike CONSTRUCTION INTERCHANGE 14A

THREE WEEK SCHEDULE AS OF OCTOBER 6, 2017

 

The following work is scheduled over the next three weeks:

 

Toll Plaza

  • East side (entering 14A): renovation of existing Toll Utility Building continues.

Ramps between the Toll Plaza and the Hudson County Extension (HCE)

  • Local street level work at Garfield, Avenue C and JFK Boulevard bridges will resume in the Fall of 2017. This work will be supported by Jersey City and Bayonne Police as needed.

Avenue E / Proposed Roundabout

  • New roadway construction on Avenue E between 51st Street and 53rd Street continues.
  • New bridge construction activities continue.

  • Asphalt paving will resume on Avenue E during the week of 10/16/17.

     

Connector Bridge (Bridge from the Toll Plaza to Port Jersey Boulevard)

  • Traffic was shifted onto the new Connector Bridge in a two-way temporary traffic pattern. Please CLICK HERE for graphic.

  • Pedestrian usage of the bridge for access to and from Port Jersey Boulevard continues to be prohibited. Please CLICK HERE for shuttle bus pamphlet.

Route 440 and Pulaski Street Intersection / Jughandle

  • Ramp roadway construction continues.
  • Ramp structure construction to southbound Route 440 continues.
  • During the weekends of October 20-22 and October 27-29, 2017, there will be weekend lane closures on northbound and southbound Route 440 between Pulaski Street and Harbor Drive for asphalt paving work. Work will be supported by Bayonne Police.

Each year, Catholic Cemeteries, a Ministry of the Archdiocese of Newark, marks November, a month of Remembrance, with events to commemorate All Saints Day (November 1), All Souls Day (November 2), and Cemetery Sunday (November 6). Observances include Masses, an inspirational concert, a symposium on coping with grief, and a unique opportunity for the bereaved to personally express themselves in tribute to departed loved ones. Hudson County Community College Responds to Executive Orders on DACA and Undocumented Students

October 4, 2017, Jersey City, NJ – Hudson County Community College (HCCC) has established clear guidelines as to what it will – and will not do – with regard to the White House’s executive order to rescind the DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) program instituted under executive order in 2012.

Last week, at a Senate hearing on Capitol Hill, California Senator Kamala Harris questioned Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Elaine Duke about the concern that the personal information of undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States as children could be turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the agency tasked with removals.  Acting Secretary Duke stated that she could not guarantee that the information of young immigrants who applied for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program would not be turned over to immigration and customs authorities.

HCCC President Glen Gabert, Ph.D. said the College wants to reassure students protected under DACA.  “At Hudson County Community College, we are dedicated to assisting and caring for all of our students. We will continue to counsel and advocate on behalf of our DACA students,” he said.

Shortly after the executive order was issued, Hudson County Community College issued the following statement to define how the College is responding to executive orders concerning DACA and undocumented students:

Hudson County Community College will provide support on immigration-related concerns.
Hudson County Community College will counsel those impacted with resources for educational and living expenses for which they are legally eligible.
Hudson County Community College will vigorously investigate and prosecute anyone who threatens, intimidates or harasses any member of our community.
Hudson County Community College will intensify its long-standing advocacy for expanded access to higher education for all our students.
Hudson County Community College will not voluntarily disclose immigration and/or citizenship status to federal authorities absent a court-issued subpoena.
Hudson County Community College will not ask questions regarding immigration and/or citizenship status except when relevant to the service being provided.
Hudson County Community College will not voluntarily disclose immigration and/or citizenship status information to federal authorities unless necessary to comply with a federal regulation or to protect a person’s safety. 

Dr. Gabert reminded that Hudson County is the most ethnically diverse area of the United States. “Our students represent more than 90 different nationalities and 58% of them speak a language other than English in their homes. More than 50% of our students identify as being of Hispanic heritage (can we get most recent figures for the other students?). Our students are the future of this area and our country.  They are industrious, dedicated men and women who are working to create better lives for themselves, their families and our community,” he said.

Hudson County Community College 2017 -2018 Lecture Series

Hudson County Community College to welcome Grant Imahara,

Martha Raddatz, and B.D. Wong in 2017-2018 Lecture Series

Series begins in November; the events are open to the general public and there is no charge for admission.

October 4, 2017, Jersey City, NJ – Hudson County Community College (HCCC) has announced the lineup for its 2017-2018 Lecture Series. The featured lecturers include animatronics engineering expert and former host of Discovery’s MythBusters Grant Imahara; ABC News Senior Foreign Affairs Correspondent and co-anchor of This Week Martha Raddatz; and actor and activist BD Wong.

The events will be held the College’s Culinary Conference Center, 161 Newkirk Street in Jersey City – just two blocks from the Journal Square Transportation Center. All are open to the general public and there is no charge for admission. Tickets for the events are available on a first-come-first-served basis, and may be obtained by visiting www.hccc.edu/tickets.

The first lecture on Wednesday, November 29 at 11 a.m. will feature Grant Imahara, who was also a model-maker and animatronics engineer at George Lucas’s Industrial Light and Magic. While there, he worked in special effects on eleven feature films – Star Wars: Episodes 1 – 3, Artificial Intelligence: AI, and The Lost World: Jurassic Park.

Martha Raddatz will appear in the second segment of the series on Thursday, March 8 at 6 p.m. Ms. Raddatz has served as ABC News’ chief White House correspondent during the last term of President George W. Bush’s administration, and received Peabody and Emmy awards for her coverage of presidential campaigns and the September 11 attacks.

The final lecture will take place on Thursday, April 5 at 6 p.m. and will feature BD Wong, the award-winning actor who has appeared on Law& Order: SVU, Oz, Mr. Robot, Gotham, Jurassic Park, and Jurassic World. Mr. Wong also appeared in the Broadway production of M. Butterfly, for which he earned a Tony Award, Theatre World
Award, Clarence Derwent Award, and Drama Desk Award.
