Mayor Steven M. Fulop announces the proactive steps to aggressively address unprecedented financial hardships amid the current health and economic crisis are now being cited by Moody’s credit rating as reason to earn a “stable†rating this year despite many cities seeing credit downgrades and negative reviews as local governments nationwide face crippling budgetary burdens.
Councilwoman Jen Giattino, Councilman Phil Cohen and Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla announced today the formation of the newly organized Hoboken Relief Fund. Organized to support independently-owned Hoboken businesses and Hoboken residents who have suffered adverse economic impact as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Fund will invest in our local economy, helping small businesses — the backbone of our community — get back on their feet, as well as helping Hoboken’s vulnerable residents, families and our seniors. The Fund seeks to raise $2 million dollars to award.  Companies and individuals who would like to donate to the Hoboken Relief Fund can visit www.HobokenReliefFund.com.  Mayor Bhalla stated “I’m thrilled that this relief fund is launching in Hoboken to help provide a helping hand to those in need. This fund is an ideal way to give back to our community to help Hoboken recover from this crisis, and I encourage anyone who can afford to donate to please do so. NEWARK, NJ – The Archdiocese of Newark has announced the consolidation of its school community and the closure of nine archdiocesan-operated elementary schools at the end of this school year, the result of archdiocesan strategic planning efforts to strengthen the overall school program and ensure a sustainable future for Catholic education in the Archdiocese. Cristo Rey Newark High School, a member of the Cristo Rey Network®, also will close due to lack of operational viability, as per a resolution adopted by the school’s Board.

Latest Commitment to Continuing City Operations amid Pandemic while Adhering to Health & Safety Protocols
JERSEY CITY – Mayor Steven M. Fulop, Municipal Prosecutor Jake Hudnut, Municipal Court Chief Judge Carlo Abad, and Municipal Court DirectorWendy Razzoli announce provisions in place to allow for virtual court proceedings beginning Monday, May 11, 2020. For the health and safety of everyone involved, the transition to virtual court utilizing Zoom video conferencing will reduce foot traffic at the Jersey City Municipal Courthouse by allowing the public to appear remotely to have matters such as traffic, parking, DUI’s, code enforcement, and minor criminal offenses heard.
Mayor Jimmy Davis announced that the Bayonne Parking Utility is renewing its “virtual†permits registered to license plates for the Blue and White Zones. The transition to enforcement by license plate took place last year. The Parking Utility is getting ready to send out emails to all residents with current permits in the Blue and White Zones on May 11, 2020 to renew their residential parking permits. Current permit holders in the Blue and White Zones should renew online or through the mail.
Hudson County Community College (HCCC) Foundation announced that it is initiating a campaign on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 – National Giving Tuesday – that will match donors’ gifts dollar-for-dollar up to $100,000. The campaign will continue for one month. Tax-exempt donations to the HCCC Foundation Giving Tuesday Match Drive may be made at www.hccc.edu/FoundationDonor.
