Pictured at the first annual Citywide Art Show at the Bayonne Community Museum at 229 Broadway, at the corner of 9th Street is (far left ) Bayonne Mayor Mark Smith, and  Joe Waks ( far right with blue shirt)Bayonne Municipal Services Director  and the many Bayonne artists whose works were on display.

The opening reception  which ran from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  drew many Bayonne dignitaries,  residents, and family and friends of the  artists who participated.

In celebration of National Volunteer Week, the 4th Annual Hudson County Volunteer Expo will be held on Thursday, April 19, from noon through 8:00pm, in the Loew’s Jersey Theatre, at 54 Journal Square, across from the Journal Square PATH/Bus station.

 Representatives from dozens of Hudson County non-profit organizations in need of volunteer assistance will be there. Attendees to this Free Expo will be able to explore hundreds of local, short- and long-term Volunteer, Internship and Community Service opportunities, in a wide variety of service areas. The public is invited to stop by – from brand new through experienced volunteers, as well as everyone just thinking about checking it out.

Jersey City & Parks Coalition Win One of Three National Make A Difference Day Awards for Municipalities for “BIG DIG” Planting Project

Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy and the Jersey City Parks Coalition announced today that the City of Jersey City and The Jersey City Parks Coalition have been awarded one of three national Make A Difference Day awards for municipalities for the collaborative project known as the “BIG DIG” that saw 18,000 tulip and daffodil bulbs planted across the city last October.

 600 Mile Run to Benefit Wounded Soldiers and Veterans

Jersey City officials and police department brass will be on hand to salute and send off 25 police officers and military veterans as they undertake the arduous task of running 600 miles to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

The ceremonies, set to begin 10 am sharp on Monday, April 16, 2012 I at the Purple Heart Memorial in Journal Square, in Journal Square, launch the 25 participants in a five-state trek of New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and finally North Carolina over a five day period. The runners themselves are comprised of Marine Corps veterans, Army veterans and police officers from Jersey City, Newark West New York, NJ State Police and Port Authority police, law enforcement agencies. Sponsors Resolution for Tonight’s Council Meeting Formally Requesting No Premature nor Expediting  of Sale Until FERC Decision

 

Jersey City, NJ — April 11, 2012 — Councilman Steve Fulop testified today before the New Jersey Transit Authority on the issue of the Spectra Pipeline. Spectra has petition the New Jersey Transit Authority to ensure and expedite the sale of land that is necessary for the pipeline prior to the final federal approval of the project from the Federal Energy Regulation Commission which is expected at some point in mid summer.

“I am here today to remind the New Jersey Transit Authority that their mission is not to be a real estate broker, but to provide safe ways for commuters to ride public transportation, a premature a sale of property would be counter to NJ Transit’s mission in every way and counter to the best interest of residents of Jersey City” said Councilman Fulop. HCCC Fine Arts Students to Display Works in Gallery at Brennan Courthouse

JERSEY CITY, N.J. / April 11, 2012 — Hudson County Community College’s Fine Arts Department is currently exhibiting artwork of several students now through Monday, May 7, 2012. The exhibit is located at The Brennan Gallery, in the rotunda of the Justice William J. Brennan Jr. Courthouse, 583 Newark Avenue, Jersey City. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

 

A reception will be held for the artists on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Blood Drive on Monday, April 16, at Bayonne’s 27th Street Fire House

            There will be a blood drive on Monday, April 16, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., at the City Hall Fire House, at 27th Street and Avenue C. The drive is co-sponsored by the Bayonne Fire Department and the Bayonne Police Department. Health officials asked prospective donors to bring signed or picture identification and to know their Social Security numbers. All blood types are welcome. Anyone who is physically able is welcome to donate blood. In order to prevent donors from being weak after giving blood, drive organizers are asking donors to eat a meal beforehand. Health professionals will screen prospective donors before blood is drawn. There will be a free cholesterol check for all blood donors.

Bayonne’s Holocaust Remembrance Service Set for Tuesday, April 17

Holocaust survivor Fanya Heller will speak at Bayonne’s annual Holocaust Remembrance Service on Tuesday, April 17.

Bayonne’s annual Holocaust Remembrance Service is scheduled for Tuesday, April 17, at 6:00 p.m., in the City Council Chambers at 630 Avenue C. The event is sponsored by the United Jewish Appeal (UJA) Federation of Bayonne and the Bayonne Interfaith Clergy, and is hosted by the City of Bayonne. Mayor Mark A. Smith is the honorary chairman of the event.

The featured speaker this year is Fanya Heller. She is a Holocaust survivor, author, and educator whose life story offers hope to all who have suffered through discrimination or the horrors of war. Born into a traditional Jewish family in a small Ukrainian village in 1924, Fanya and her family hid from the Nazi death squads with the help of two Christian rescuers. Beset by hunger, marked for death by her neighbors, and faced with the constant threat of discovery and execution, she survived miraculously to share her message of life and hope.
