Showing Human Kindness to Majestic Animals

 Jersey City Fundraiser Saturday Oct. 13th to help Mistreated Horses with Medical Care and Much-Needed Love

Horse stories like the Broadway play “War Horse” pay tribute to the majesty of these four-legged warriors and sometimes, in real-life, horse stories can be heartbreaking. Nobody knows that better than Diane Cirone-Gogates of Jersey City who volunteers with the Arabian Rescue Mission (ARM) that rescues, rehabilitates and finds loving homes for abused horses. Animal advocates and their friends and families are invited to show their support for the Arabian Rescue Mission on Sat, Oct. 13 when Cirone-Gogates puts on a foot-stomping fundraiser where a $15 donation will help pay for medical expenses, winter hay and blankets for the rescues. 

“I’ve been rescuing dogs and cats my entire life,” Cirone-Gogates says. “I went to the Washington stables and asked if I could volunteer and they put me in touch with the Arabian Rescue Mission. RICHARD O’BRIEN’S THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW-TTC Travels to Jersey City ‘s Cemetery for Two Rocking Performances

October 13, 2012 at 4pm & 8pm

The Theater Company of Hoboken (TTC) will be presenting two special, live performances of Richard O’Brien’s THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW this Saturday at the Historic Jersey City & Harsimus Cove Cemetery. This is TTC’s fourth time producing this Sci-fi cult hit, which has gotten its own cult following within the Hoboken/Hudson County community.

Bayonne Bridge to Close for Part of Morning on October 14 for Emergency Drill

Mayor Mark A. Smith announced that the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey will close the Bayonne Bridge for part of the morning of Sunday, October 14, for an emergency drill. The drill scenario is a head-on collision between a box truck and a passenger vehicle, creating a fully engulfed fire along with cascading accidents on the approach roadways. This drill will require a full closure of the bridge and its pedestrian sidewalk between the hours of 4:30 a.m. and 9:00 am at the Bayonne Bridge on Sunday, October 14. During the hours that the Bayonne Bridge is closed that day, drivers and pedestrians who use the bridge will need to seek alternate routes or change their travel times. STARRY, STARRY NIGHT-Filmmakers to Shine at the Golden Door Int’l Film Festival in Jersey City

October brings chills and thrills and skies so bright you can see the stars and the nights will be especially starry when the Golden Door International Film Festival rolls out the red carpet at the Loew’s Jersey City movie palace for four fabulous days of films.

 The film festival kicks off Thurs, Oct. 11th where stars, writers, directors and cinephiles will gather in the Loew’s art deco lobby for drinks and schmoozing and then take their seats in the beautifully restored theater to watch two new films, Pollination* starring Federico Castelluccio (The Sopranos); and Just Crazy Enough featuring Saturday Night Live alum Chris Kattan.  The following three days will be jam packed with screenings of features, documentaries and shorts and a closing night awards ceremony on Sun, Oct. 14th.                

 

 Founder Bill Sorvino brings the film festival back to Jersey City for a second year and the response he’s received since last year’s event has been huge, he says. This time around, Sorvino has added ore films to the marquee for a four-day smorgasbord of features, documentaries and shorts from Hollywood to Bollywood.

 “Last year’s festival was very successful,” Sorvino says. “We had great feedback and I want to build on what we did last year. So this year the amount of fantastic films we have is over the top – one great film after another.”

The Fine and Performing Arts Academy at Bayonne High School hosts the first Monthly Student Showcase of the Year

Fine and Performing Arts Academy students at Bayonne High School had the opportunity to share their talents with family, friends, teachers and administrators at the first monthly Student Showcase on Tuesday, September 25th at 6:30 PM in the Alexander X. O’Connor Auditorium.

               All Arts Academy students are required to perform or present an original work three times throughout the school year at a monthly Showcase. Performances include vocal solos, instrumental solos or ensembles, dramatic monologues, readings of original writing, or the presentation of original artwork. Holy Family in Bayonne to Hold Annual Road Race on October 21

Holy Family Academy is sponsoring its fifth annual HFA Road Race on Sunday, October 21, 2012. The one-mile fun run/walk will start at 9:00 a.m., followed by the four-mile race at 9:30 a.m. Both races will begin and end in front of Holy Family Academy, which is located at 239 Avenue A. An awards ceremony and post-race party will take place at the school. Holy Family anticipates that more than 200 runners will take part in the event.

HFA has been an integral part of the Bayonne community since 1925. Thousands of Holy Family graduates have gone on to make significant contributions to Bayonne, the state, and the nation, based on the educational foundation provided by the school. Today, HFA is Hudson County’s only independent Catholic High School for girls. Community support is needed to assure that it continues to serve Bayonne and the surrounding communities.

Fans of ABC-TVs Modern Family know Chazz Palminteri as Jay’s metrosexual friend and the celebrated actor plays the recurring role with a comedic flair that keeps the audience guessing “Is he or isn’t he?”  Film-goers loved his portrayal of Customs Agent Dave Kujan in The Usual Suspects and his comedic turn as “Cheech” in Woody Allen’s film Bullets over Broadway that won him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. It doesn’t matter if he’s playing comedy or drama Palminteri always gives a stand-out performance because he’s a risk-taker.

 On Sat, Sept. 29, Palminteri is at it again – performing live without a net – when he takes center stage at The Harbor Lights Theater Company in Staten Island to portray 18 characters – including two women – in his semi-autobiographical one-man-play A Bronx Tale. It’s a one-night stand, so to speak, and Palminteri can’t wait to perform in front of a live audience. 

 It was during his salad days as a struggling New York actor that Palminteri wrote A Bronx Tale to give himself a great role that would get him noticed – and it did. When Robert DeNiro saw him perform his show Off-Broadway, DeNiro decided he wanted to direct the film and with the proviso that Palminteri play one of the leads and write the screenplay, Palminteri and DeNiro sealed the deal with a handshake.
