The Jersey City Planning Board unanimously approved a 21-story tower planned for McGinley Square, directly south of the busy Journal Square neighborhood. The product of a joint venture between St. Peter’s University and Sora Development, the building will not only provide new housing options for the university, but is also expected to contribute greatly to the revitalization of the McGinley Square and Journal Square neighborhoods as the city’s redevelopment moves westward from the resurgent waterfront.

Jersey City can sometimes be two Jersey Cities – the city with the tony reputation of being a mini-Manhattan and the city where people are overlooked and living in desperation on the margins.
The second Jersey City is those areas are usually seen as crime ridden and to be avoided as much as possible. Andrew Perera opened his café and restaurant in Bayonne in August 2009, ten years after he met and designed a vegan menu for President Bill Clinton. At Andrew’s in Bayonne, Perera serves his customers the same fare he designed for the former president — vegan soups, salads, sandwiches, entrees and desserts.
He serves a few meat dishes too.
“Andrew’s is the only restaurant serving organically healthy cuisine in this Bayonne area,†Perera says, sitting outside his café on a sunny weekday afternoon. “A lot of people come from Staten Island, East Rutherford, Linden, Queens – I have people coming here because the food is healthy. Area Street Closures Take Effect Tuesday, August 19th
JERSEY CITY – Mayor Steven M. Fulop and the Municipal Council announced today that street closures as part of the plan to convert a portion of Newark Avenue into a pedestrian plaza to enhance the City’s vibrant downtown commercial and cultural district will go into effect next week.
Beginning Tuesday, August 19, 2014, Newark Avenue from Grove Street to Barrow Street and Erie Street from Newark Avenue to Bay Street will be closed from 3 p.m. to midnight, Monday through Friday and between 12 a.m. and midnight, Saturday and Sunday for the preservation of the public’s safety and welfare at the newly created pedestrian plaza. Mayor Steven M. Fulop and At-Large Councilman Daniel Rivera announced today that they will present an ordinance to the City Council at next week’s meeting to name the new West District Police precinct in honor of slain Detective Melvin Santiago.
An officer in the City’s West District, Det. Santiago, 23, was an and was on patrol when he was shot and killed in the line of duty on July 13, 2014 while responding to a call of an armed robbery at the Walgreens on Communipaw Avenue and Kennedy Boulevard. Kelsey Muller grew up playing under her dad’s desk at Muller Insurance in Hoboken, the company her great-grandfather John Muller founded in the waterfront town back in 1906.  More than a hundred years later, Muller’s legacy lives on. The business, run by Muller’s grandchildren Roger J. Muller, Jr. and Erika Muller is thriving, and on May 29th, his great-granddaughter Kelsey Muller earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and graduated Cum Laude from Harvard College in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
