Original Play features Stories of Survival and Hope at Art House Productions in JC

 Power and control – two red flags of bad behavior when it comes to relationships, but sometimes a person doesn’t know what they’re getting into until it’s too late. Situations like this are the basis of a new collaborative play by Jersey City’s Speranza Theatre Company and Women Rising, a refuge, resource and referral for survivors of domestic violence.
WOMEN RISING, Stories of Hope, directed by Diana Basmajian, will run Thurs, Oct. 20-Sun, Oct. 23 at Art House Productions in Jersey City. Â A compilation by playwrights Megan Lohne, DeLora Whitney, Caren Skibell, Merri Biechler, Lia Romeo, and Dania Ramos, under the guidance of lead writer Jennie Contuzzi, the play is a series of monologues and scenes that focus on the survivors of domestic abuse. Jersey City, NJ –THE HAMILTON PARK CONSERVANCY presents the 7th Annual Hamilton Park BBQ Festival, Saturday, September 24, 2016, noon to 8 pm, at McWilliams Place, on the east side of Hamilton Park. The BBQ Festival is a fun, end of summer neighborhood event. Proceeds of the Hamilton Park BBQ Festival benefit the Hamilton Park Conservancy (501(c)(3) dedicated to assisting the city in the maintenance, improvement and preservation of the five-acre Victorian-era park in the historic district of Hamilton Park. The Conservancy is responsible for the Lawn Renovation Program, and maintenance of two community tennis courts. The park was named for founding father Alexander Hamilton by his friend and fellow federalist, John B. Coles. 
The 2016 Newport Liberty Half Marathon is happening this Sunday September 18th along the Hudson River waterfront in Jersey City. Registration numbers keep climbing (upwards of 3,000!) and this year’s race will be the biggest one yet!
