Hoboken Rockets Defy Odds to Win American Dream Hockey League Championship

“This was a team that never quit,” said Rockets captain Roger J. Muller Jr. “Everyone bought into short shifts, playing their role, and trusting each other. That’s what carried us.”

Founded in 1991 by Muller, the Hoboken Rockets have been a fixture in adult hockey across the Northeast for more than three decades. Muller has played with the team for 34 years and has served as captain, general manager, and coach. Over the years, the Rockets have won championships in Washington, D.C., Toronto, Boston, and Hackensack, including Hockey North America’s National Championship in Toronto in 2001.

The Rockets joined the American Dream Hockey League in 2024 and are sponsored by Muller Insurance of Hoboken, a family-owned business established in 1906.

The 2025 championship roster reflected the team’s diversity and depth. Players ranged in age from 19 to 68 and came from New Jersey, New York, and even overseas. Off the ice, teammates include a quantitative analyst, a police officer, an electrician, and professionals from a wide range of fields.

The championship roster included captains Roger J. Muller Jr. of Hoboken and Vasili Karalewich of River Vale; goaltender Frankie Smith of Little Ferry; and skaters Lorenzo Sargenti, Matt Josefs, Keegan White, and Dylan Yott of Hoboken; Damian Bieniasz and Aleksander Zaloga of Jersey City; Adin Adler of New York City; Adam Podell of Bloomfield; Randy Homer of Linden; Frank Stefano of Bloomingdale; Ryan Modnyy of Staten Island; Mike Lloyd of Glen Ridge; David Chang of Emerson; Phil Mollica of Oak Ridge; Jeff Spatola of Rahway; and Daniel Antal of Bucharest, Romania.

Team members credit their success to a team-first philosophy that emphasized shared ice time, disciplined play, and mutual respect.

“We didn’t rely on one line or one star,” Muller said. “Every player mattered, and everyone contributed.”

With the championship secured, the Hoboken Rockets continue a legacy more than three decades in the making—one built on commitment to the game, community pride, and the belief that teamwork can overcome the odds.
