Jersey City Offers Free Concerts and Dance this Summer

FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

JERSEY CITY – Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy, Municipal Council, and the Division of Cultural Affairs host the annual Summerfest Concert Series, the annual Jazz for Lunch Music Series, Free Concerts at the MLK Hub, and the Summer Dance Fest Series during the months of July through August.

“From enjoying the pier’s scenic backdrop, to Liberty State Park’s view of the Manhattan skyline, to the MLK evening celebration, mixed with the finest local musicians, this will be an exciting time to be in Jersey City,” said Mayor Healy. “Residents and visitors don’t have to spend a lot of money on vacations and travel far for a fun-filled summer. Summer Day Camp Registration by the Recreation Division of Bayonne Being Held June 25th, 26th and 27th

Mayor Mark A. Smith has announced that the Recreation Division will hold registration for its summer day camps on Monday, June 25th, Tuesday, June 26th, and Wednesday, June 27th, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

  Sign-ups for the downtown camp will be held at Mary J. Donohoe School on East 5th Street. Registration for the uptown camp will be at Horace Mann School on West 38th Street. For the midtown camp, registration will take place at DiDomenico-16th Street Park, on the first floor of the Recreation office, located behind the handball courts. Missing Swimmer’s Body Found in Seaside Park was Bayonne Resident Bestavros Faris

The body of Bestavros Faris of Bayonne age 18 and a 2012 Graduate of Bayonne High School was found by the a New Jersey State Marine Police boat a day after he went missing off Seaside Park.

Faris’s body was discovered just off the O Street beach where he disappeared. The State Police used sonar equipment to locate the body. It took them less than 45 minutes from the time they arrived.

Mayor Mark Smith expressed his condolences to the youth’s family. “It’s tragic to hear of a young life ending under such circumstances,” said Smith. “This young man’s life was just about to begin and it’s heartbreaking to hear this news. Bayonne Opens Cooling Centers, Adds Pool Hours to Counter Heat Wave

Mayor Mark A. Smith invited residents to use the three cooling centers that the City has opened. Bayonne’s three senior centers will also serve as cooling centers from 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. from Wednesday, June 20, through Friday, June 22. They are located at 16 West 4th Street (near Broadway), 597 Broadway (near 27th Street), and 329 Avenue B (at 56th Street).

The DiDomenico Pool at 16th Street will be open extended hours from 10:30 a.m. through 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 20, through Friday, June 22, weather permitting.

At Lincoln Community School, the Skutnick Pool will be open from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 20, through Friday, June 22, for use as a cooling center and to provide relief from the heat.

During the heat wave, please be sure to take the necessary precautions to avoid heat exhaustion. If possible, avoid going outdoors during the heat of the day, drink plenty of fluids, and don’t overexert yourself. Please take the time to check in on elderly or disabled friends and relatives to make sure they are all right. If necessary, contact the Bayonne Police Department for assistance at 201-858-6900.

During Current Heat Wave, Chill Out and Have a Blast at any of Jersey City’s Cooling Sites for Residents

 JERSEY CITY – Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy and the Jersey City Office of Emergency Management (OEM) announce sites throughout the city for residents to beat the heat tomorrow, June 20th and Thursday, June 21st when temperatures are expected to exceed 90 degrees Fahrenheit (90 °F).

BAYONNE -Emergency Blood Drive Scheduled for Monday, June 25

The Bayonne Fire and Police Departments are sponsoring an emergency blood drive on Monday, June 25, at the City Hall Fire House, 27th Street and Avenue C, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. All blood types are welcome. There is a serious need for O negative, O positive, A negative, and B negative blood.

Health officials asked prospective donors to bring signed or picture identification and to know their Social Security numbers. Anyone who is physically able is welcome to donate blood. In order to prevent donors from being weak after giving blood, drive organizers are asking donors to eat a meal beforehand. Health professionals will screen prospective donors before blood is drawn. There will be a free cholesterol check for all blood donors.

Bayonne Pool, Mini-Golf To Be Open Every Day Through Labor Day

The Bayonne Recreation Division announced that the DiDomenico Municipal Pool at 16th Street will be open daily through Labor Day, now that the school year is over. Pool hours are 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., weather permitting.

The Recreation Division also announced that the Bayonne Mini-Golf facility on West 23rd Street will be open daily through Labor Day, too. Mini-Golf hours are 12:00 noon to 9:00 p.m., weather permitting. Bayonne Mini-Golf is located at West 23rd Street and Del Monte Drive, between Avenue C and Broadway.
