Hudson County Alliance of Teen Artists Celebrate Top Honor Students on Tuesday May 22nd

The Hudson County Alliance of Teen Arts Committee will celebrate the Top Honors Students from both the Performing Arts Festivals and the Student Art Expo 2012 on Tuesday, May 22nd in the William J. Brennan Courthouse, 583 Newark Avenue, Jersey City, NJ 07306  from 5:00  to 7:30 p.m. at a reception hosted by the Hudson County Division of Cultural Affairs, William LaRosa Administrator

You are cordially invited to attend the event, representing the Hudson County high schools, with a brief awards ceremony beginning at 6:30 p.m.  Joan Hajducsek Rosen and George Haviland, Co-coordinators of Hudson County Alliance of Teen Arts and the entire committee urge county, city and school officials, as well as Hudson County talented high school students, their parents and teachers to attend.

Hudson County Community College to Hold 34th Commencement Exercises on May 23

More than 900 students will be awarded Associate degrees at the ceremonies at New Jersey Performing Arts Center

College Little League is in Greenville  and games are played at Country Village,the league is the most diverse league in the city and covers boys and girls(softball)range from 6 to 16

CAGUITLA LEADS IPC MINOR BOYS OVER DUBLIN justin Caguitla pitched a no hitter and then was relieved by Justin Nguyen who came on for the save also had 1 hit and 1 rbi. Stephen Olszewski and Christopher Warren both had 2 hits and 2 rbi’s each for IPC.

EVERETT LEADS IPC OVER GREENVILLE  Mark Everett pitched a 1 hitter and struck out 12 while going the distance in a victory over Greenville 5-0.Everett also had 1 hit and 1 rbi. Also leading the way for IPC were with 1 hit Justin Nygun,Stephen Olszewski,Christopher Warren, and Justin Caguitta. Mike Torillo,Melvin Saladua and Jacob Ladignon chipped in with 1 RBI each. IPC is 2-0.College LL cover Society Hill,Country Village,Port Liberte, and Greenville.

EVERETT 2 RUN BLASTS PUTS IPC AT 3-0 Mark Everett went 2 for 2 with a 2 run homerun,and double and 3 RBI’s. Justin Caguitla went 3 for 3 with 2 RBI’s. Chris Warren came on in relief to earn the win for IPC who is 3-0.IPC was trailing in the bottom of the fourt when they exploded for a 5 run rally started by Brandan Warren.

DEAD SERIOUS MAJOR BOYS OPENS WITH VICTORY OVER IPC Justin Davis led the team with 10 strikeouts, while faraj Deodat went 3 for 4,and Brandon Crawford stroked a triple and 2 RBI’s for a 6-3 victory.

DEAD SERIOUS MAJOR BOYS  GET 2ND VICTORY  Tyler O’Connor pitched Dead Serious Major boys to their 2nd victory and also had a homerun.Maurice Acuna, and Julian Alicia made numerous defensive gems to preserve the victory for Dead Serious

Bayonne Named Tree City USA For 18th Year

Bayonne Mayor Mark A. Smith announced that the Arbor Day Foundation has named the City of Bayonne a Tree City USA for the eighteenth consecutive year.

Tree City USA municipalities must have a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, a comprehensive urban forestry program, and an Arbor Day observance.

Mayor Smith said, “I would like to thank the Arbor Day Foundation for recognizing Bayonne’s continuing commitment to trees. Planting trees is good for the environment. Trees also increase property values, enhance the economic vitality of business areas, and beautify residential neighborhoods.”

John Rosenow, President of the Arbor Day Foundation, said, “We all benefit when communities like Bayonne place a high priority on planting and caring for trees, one of our nation’s most beautiful resources.” He continued, “Trees shade our homes and add beauty to our neighborhoods, and they also provide many environmental, economic, and social benefits. We applaud Bayonne’s elected officials, volunteers, and citizens for providing vital care for its urban forest.”

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm- for Cheese Lovers

Here’s a wonderful receipe for the Cheese Lover

Jarlsberg Dip Slider Bites (From www.kitchenminions.com)

Ingredients:

1 French baguette

1 8-ounce container Jarlsberg Original Cheese Dip

Melted butter

Grape or cherry tomatoes, sliced thin

Directions:

Cut baguette into ¼”-thick slices. Spread each slice with a generous layer of Jarlsberg dip. Place tomatoes on half of the bread slices and top those halves with “no tomato” slices (spread side down), to finish sandwich. Heat a grill pan on medium low. Lightly brush top of sandwiches with butter and place them on hot grill, butter side down; brush tops with butter. Grill 3 minutes, until golden brown and dip is melted, before carefully flipping to grill the other side (3 minutes), before removing from pan. Serve warm and enjoy. Did You Know That There Were Hudson County Residents on the Titanic?

Hudson Then . . . Again

Fifteen years ago, I was among the wave of millions who flocked to theaters to see James Cameron’s epic film, Titanic, an unqualified hit that brought the story of the 1912 tragedy back to life. April 15th marked 100 years since the tragic deaths of 1,500 passengers and crew who lost their lives in the dark, biting-cold waters of the Atlantic, and that anniversary has rekindled widespread interest in the story once again.

Part of the lure of this true story is its magnitude and scale:  an “unsinkable” ship on its maiden voyage, thousands of passengers, among them the rich and famous and those scraping by in steerage class hoping for a new start in America. No work of fiction launched from the creative recesses of a novelist’s mind or a screenwriter’s imagination could better convey the seeming randomness and unpredictability of life and death. Fashion with Compassion -Bayonne Women’s Club hosts Fashion Show for United Cerebral Palsy

The Bayonne Women’s Club is well-known to many throughout Bayonne for its charitable and humanitarian acts and since its inception in January of 2010 the women of this organization have helped to contribute to a multitude of causes. They volunteer in soup kitchens, gather donations for food pantries and in the annual “Relay for Life,” they do their part in the fight against cancer.

On Sat, May 5th, the Bayonne Women’s Club will host a fashion show, “Fashion with Compassion” to take place at St. Andrews School gym, 124 Broadway, Bayonne Doors open at 6:30 pm and the fashion show starts at 7 pm. Proceeds from the event will benefit the United Cerebral Palsy of Hudson County-Bayonne and will also help to replenish local food pantries. Jersey City to Host Green Drive Expo as Part of Project 365:

Jersey City to Host Green Drive Expo as Part of Project 365: Jersey City Green Week

JERSEY CITY – Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy, in collaboration with the Jersey City Environmental Commission, the Jersey City Economic Development Corporation, the Jersey City Redevelopment Agency, the Planning Division, the Law Department, the Department of Health & Human Services/Division of Cultural Affairs, and several other city departments and agencies, as well as local businesses, will kick off the first annual Green Drive Expo recognizing eco-friendly vehicles. The Green Drive Expo will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2012, in the City Hall parking lot at the intersection of Montgomery Street and Marin Boulevard.

The expo, which is part of Project 365: Jersey City Green Week, is being held in conjunction with closing celebrations at Van Vorst Park and Pershing Field, as well as a shuttle tour of the new Skyway Park at the former PJP landfill. The Green Drive Expo will include green vehicles such as the Volt Electric, Malibu Eco, Cruze Eco, Hybrid Civic, Hybrid CRV, Hybrid Honda Insight and Jersey City’s First Police Smart car. In addition to getting an up-close look at the various vehicles, the public will have the opportunity to talk with vehicle representatives about eco-friendly car performance, purchase costs and possible maintenance issues. Jersey City has been at the forefront of Sustainability since 2009 when the administration presented the City Council with a package of four “green” ordinances.” One of those ordinances requires the city to purchase vehicles that utilize alternative fuels instead of conventional fossil fuel. “We want to continue our efforts to make Jersey City one of the greenest cities in the nation and provide opportunities for our residents to lead sustainable lifestyles,” said Mayor Healy.
