Plans for Transformative ‘SciTech Scity’ Science & Technology Campus at Liberty Science Center Advance with Council Approval
‘SciTech Scity’ will Establish Jersey City as the Region’s Premier Innovation Destination, Grow Jersey City’s High-Tech Sector, and Educate Next Generation of Students as Leaders in the Fields of Science and Technology
JERSEY CITY – Mayor Steven M. Fulop and Liberty Science Center President and Chief Executive Officer Paul Hoffman announced today that the transformative project to create a comprehensive science and technology campus passed an important milestone with City Council approval Wednesday. SciTech Scity is an ambitious initiative for the expansion of Liberty Science Center that will establish Jersey City as a regional innovation destination.
The $280 million project known as ‘SciTech Scity,’ which will be developed by Liberty Science Center on 16-acres of city-owned property across from the institution, will feature a biotech lab, a coding lab, a technology business incubator and a K-12 STEM-focused school, as well as a scholars village with residences for visiting scientists. Recycling Education Campaign to Begin
Focus is on Multi-Unit Buildings & Vacant Properties; Goal is for Cleaner Streets, Increased Recycling and Improved Quality of Life Across the City
JERSEY CITY – Mayor Steven M. Fulop and the newly-formed United for Clean Streets, announced today amendments to the city’s solid waste ordinance that will increase fines for violators, specifically repeat offenders and multi-unit property owners who litter, allow debris and garbage to build up on their property, or who don’t properly recycle. The minimum and maximum fines for the egregious act of illegal dumping is also being increased as the administration works to create cleaner streets and improved quality of life citywide.
Opening of Application Process for the 2017 Jersey City Summer Internship Program Announced by Mayor Fulop
More than 3,000 young Jersey City residents have participated in the JC Summer Works Initiative
Jersey City Summer Internship Program (JCSI), a youth employment initiative started by the Fulop administration in 2014 that connects Jersey City public high school students to paid internships at the city’s leading companies and institutions while also earning academic credit was announced today by Mayor Steven M. Fulop that the opening of the online application process has begun. JCSI is a part of the city’s broader Jersey City Summer Works initiative, which has provided summer employment and enrichment for more than 3,000 young people in city departments and agencies, corporations and nonprofits since the initiative began.

Mayor Fulop to Deliver 2017 State of the City Address in All Six Wards; Series of Speeches Will Highlight Results of First Term and Initiatives for 2017
Mayor Steven M. Fulop will deliver the 2017 State of the City Address in a series of speeches to be held in each ward, taking the message to the residents to emphasize the important role each community and individual plays in the progress Jersey City is making.
The speech, the final of his first term in office, will highlight administration results, which have included stable taxes for three years, bringing the police department to over 900 officers for the first time in 20 years, investment in areas off the waterfront, and the creation of more affordable housing than any prior administration. Krispy Kreme Jersey City will hold a Factory Hiring Event on Friday, January 19th, and Saturday, January 20th, Monday, January 23rd, and Tuesday, January 24th, from 10 am to 3 pm at 95 Columbia Drive, Jersey City. Cat Colony Rescued From 24th Street Home in Bayonne
A Cat Colony was rescued recently from an abandoned home on 24th Street in Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis made the announcement recently after receiving word from City Council Secretary Beth Polera in late 2016 that at least forty cats were living without humans in the home, Mayor Davis asked that the problem be addressed immediately. City Community and Cultural Affairs Officer Dorothy Roszkowski, a member of the CARE Organization, set up a visit to the house with volunteers. The house, which is in foreclosure, is owned by a bank in Florida. The bank gave permission to Roszkowski to enter the building to help the cats.
