2016 NEWPORT LIBERTY HALF MARATHON IN JERSEY CITY

Runners at Newport Marathon in Jersey City The 2016 Newport Liberty Half Marathon is happening this Sunday September 18th along the Hudson River waterfront in Jersey City. Registration numbers keep climbing (upwards of 3,000!) and this year’s race will be the biggest one yet!

Runners will receive long sleeve t-shirts and finisher medals, not to mention the $3,000 in prize money that’s up for grabs. Beer and snacks from NJ Beer Co. and Cosi in Newport are waiting for participants at the finish line.

BRIDGES GYMNASTICS CENTER OF BAYONNE PUMPKIN CUP MEET

Bayonne’s Bridges Gymnastics Center team girls shined at their first meet of the season. The Pumpkin Cup meet was held at Bishop Ahern high school in Edison N.J.   . A very special congratulations goes out to 9 year old Emilie Mandaro and 9 year old Marie Little for qualifying into Bridges USAG optional level 6 team program.

Other team girls shining at the meet are their level 4 gymnasts Alexandria Rivera, Natalie Wondolowski, and Elizabeth Keller, along with their level 3 teammates Maya Sekulski, Isabella Vera , Alexsandra Hrynkiewicz and Snehi Vijaywargiya.

Celebrate summer at the Newport Beach Party and food festival, held at the only urban beach on the Hudson River! Attendees will enjoy a FREE live performance by famed R&B and soul artist, Lee Fields and the Expressions.  Signature dishes and cocktails will also be featured from a selection of local Newport restaurants.

·         Deliciously prepared tasting dishes by top area chefs from the Restaurants at Newport, which are serving from pop-up stations by the urban beach.

·         Hundreds of Beach Party attendees will be enjoying an evening at the only urban beach on the Hudson River.

o  The urban beach is complete with nearly 8,000 square feet of authentic, castle-building sand, dozens of Adirondack chairs and large colorful umbrellas.

·         Picture-perfect views of the Manhattan skyline, from the Empire State building to the One World Trade Center building in the Financial District. An unobstructed panorama of NYC can be seen from the urban beach!

MOVIES IN THE PARK SERIES COMES TO SIX HUDSON COUNTY PARKS

Hudson County, NJ – Free movies and popcorn on Wednesday and Friday nights this July and August at six different Hudson County parks. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy an evening in the park! Movies start at sundown each evening with rain dates, if needed, happening the following Monday and Tuesday. All movies are subtitled in Spanish and all events are wheelchair accessible.

Kicking off their third year with the support of Hudson County, the Movies in the Parks series brings family friendly films to 6 beautiful Hudson County parks, as produced by the Washington Park Association of Hudson County, Inc. (WPA).

The Movies In The Parks series for 2015 is brought to you by the Hudson County Executive Thomas DeGise and the Hudson County Board of Chosen Freeholders.

Movies In The Parks was originally a community initiative, until the WPA’s partnership with the County of Hudson in 2013, which expanded the program countywide.

The parks and communities included are: Stephen R. Gregg Park in Bayonne, West Hudson Park in Kearny, Washington Park in Union City, Columbus Park in Hoboken, Lincoln Park in Jersey City, and JJ Braddock Park in North Bergen. Movies in the Parks are a great way to see a free family-friendly film in your local community under the stars. The series is also an incredible opportunity to experience all of the amazing parks in Hudson County that may be less visited by those who are not residents. Free popcorn will also be available at all screenings. Bring your family, friends, or just come to meet your neighbors at all 12 screenings throughout July and August this summer. Hamilton Bark in the Park  Liberty Humane Society will host the second annual Hamilton BARK Festival, at Hamilton Park, Jersey City, NJ on Saturday June 20th from 12-7pm.  At its core, Hamilton BARK is a one-day community festival and fundraiser for LHS, including live entertainment and activities for children, adults, and four-legged family members.

Proceeds from the event – the largest and most festive of all of the Foundation’s fundraisers – will be dedicated to scholarships for deserving students, faculty development programs, and the College’s physical expansion.

Bayonne Bergen Point Festival to Ring in Halloween

As Halloween approaches, many of us are gearing up to have some bewitching fun as witches, goblins and things that go bump in the night. In Bayonne, the UEZ and Bergen Point merchants are preparing to scare up some local fun at the Bayonne Bergen Point Festival to be held on Sat, Oct. 18, from noon to 5 pm.

A community celebration, the festival, which will be held on Broadway from 5th to Cottage Streets will feature entertainment, more than 30 food vendors and lots of fun things for the kids like rides, balloon sculptures, temporary tattoos, sand art, face painting and more. Jersey City’s popular half marathon championship marks its 21st year! Recreational and elite runners from around the country can compete for $3,000 in prize money on a USA Track & Field-certified course that interweaves with the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway from Newport to Liberty State Park.

The open-air race, sponsored this year by BATS Global Markets, has been called the most beautiful course in the Tri-State area with spectacular views of Lower Manhattan, the Statue of Liberty and the Verrazano Bridge.
