Executive Order Jersey City Sanctuary CityThis week, Mayor Fulop and his administration is kicking off the State of the City series. The Mayor and his  team will be speaking to the communities of each of our city’s wards over the next few weeks about last year’s accomplishments, and most importantly, this year’s priorities.

EXECUTIVE ORDER OF THE MAYOR OF THE CITY OF JERSEY CITY ESTABLISHING THE CITY OF JERSEY CITY AS A SANCTUARY CITY

Executive Order Jersey City Sanctuary City On February 3rd, 2017 Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop signed an Executive  Order re-affirming and strengthening Jersey City’s Sanctuary City status and outlining a detailed policy on the matter for the Police Department and other city departments and agencies who work with the immigrant community. Here is the Executive Order: 

WHEREAS, Jersey City values its ethnic, racial, linguistic, and socio-economic diversity. which is a source of our strength and ensures that all our residents can live and pursue their livelihoods in peace and prosperity; and

WHEREAS, the targeting of immigrants undermines our democracy and our common humanity and degrades life everywhere but especially for the residents of a proud and richly diverse City such as the City of Jersey City; and

WHEREAS, local enforcement of immigration law whereby local law enforcement voluntarily works on behalf of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to facilitate deportations, undermines trust and cooperation between immigrant communities and the police and could expose the City to liability for violations of individuals’ Constitutional rights; and

WHEREAS, the identification and reporting of immigrants who have not been charged much less convicted of any crime unduly burdens and diverts municipal resources; disrupts and interferes with the City’s duty to deliver basic municipal services such as healthcare, education and police protection; and

Mayor Fulop signs executive order Re-Affirming Jersey City Sanctuary City

JERSEY CITY – Joined today by a coalition of immigration advocates, Mayor Fulop today signed an executive order re-affirming and strengthening Jersey City’s Sanctuary City status and outlining a detailed policy on the matter for the Police Department and other city departments and agencies who work with the immigrant community.

As one of the most diverse cities in the nation, with 40 percent of the population foreign born and 75 languages spoken in the public schools, the executive order establishes a firm policy preventing city resources from being used on the enforcement of federal immigration law and will serve as a model for other cities in New Jersey and the nation.

America, We Served!: Three Centuries of African American Soldiers

America we served Trenton, NJ— America, We Served!: Three Centuries of African American Soldiers. For over three hundred years, African Americans have made incredible contributions to the United States Military. This February, learn about the impact made on war efforts by black soldiers throughout American history at the Old Barracks Museum. African American historians, reenactors, and veterans will present artifacts, information, and insight highlighting the integral role African Americans had in our nation’s history. 
The Revolutionary War will be represented by the predominately African American Rhode Island Regiment.  The Civil War will be represented by The 6th Regiment United States Colored Troops.  World War II will be represented by The 5th Platoon.  Other authentically kitted out reenactors will represent the War of 1812, the Buffalo Soldiers of the American West, and the Harlem Hellfighters of World War I fame.

10 things men do before a football game Whether it’s Sunday morning, Monday night or the night before the Super Bowl, most men have rituals that they like to adhere to before a football game. Let’s take a look at some of the common things men will do in the moments or hours leading up to kickoff.

1) Make a Beer/Food Run

Watching football isn’t the same without a cold beer or a piping hot pizza to enjoy during the game. If you are going to the game, beer and food are a must for a quality tailgate. JERSEY CITY – Mayor Steven M. Fulop will be joined by members of the City Council and immigration advocates tomorrow to sign an executive order re-affirming the city’s Sanctuary Cities status and outlining a detailed policy on the matter for the Police Department and other city departments and agencies who work with the immigrant community.  As one of the most diverse cities in the nation, with 40 percent of the population foreign born, the executive order establishes a firm policy preventing city resources from being used on the enforcement of federal immigration law and will serve as a model for other cities in New Jersey and the nation.  The policy was drafted in partnership with a coalition of immigration advocates including the New Jersey Alliance for Immigrant Justice, the ACLU of New Jersey, American Friends Service Committee and Make the Road New Jersey.

Statement from Hoboken Mayor Zimmer on Expanding the Southwest Park

I want to thank the entire City Council for voting 9-0 last night to statement Hoboken Mayor Zimmer authorize the use of eminent domain for the direct purchase of land to double the size of the Southwest Park.  This authorization provides the City with a valuable negotiating tool and will ensure that the property can be acquired for a price fair to both Academy Bus and the City of Hoboken. I also want to thank the City Council for their unanimous support for our application for Green Acres funding, which together with our Open Space Trust Fund, will enable us to acquire this property without any impact on our municipal taxes.
