U.S Airways Plane crashes in Hudson River Between Weehawken and Manhattan

On thursday A U. S Airways jet on route from La Guardia Airport to Charolette, North Carolina crashed into the Hudson River near midtown Manhattan and across from Weehawken NJ. An investigation is underway to see what brought the Jumbo Jet down but first reports are that the plane may of hit a flock of geese causing problems to one of its engines.

Details were scarce, but television footage showed the aircraft partly submerged in the water, surrounded by tug boats and at least one emergency boat, and what appeared to be passengers sitting on inflated boats, the plane’s wings and fuselage.

Later reports have indicated that the 146 passangers and 5 crew memebers all survived.

Some taken to area hospitals with injuries and suffering from hypothermia. A triage was set up in Weehawken at the Arthur’s Landing Restaurant. Police and first responders and Water Way Ferry’s  in the area were on the scene immediately helping passenger off the sinking jet.

Surviors of the crash have reported to the media that the captian of the crashed Airbus saved their lives by bringing the jet to a landing in the freezing cold river.

The 29 year veteran Captain for US Airways  Chesley Sullenberger came on the planes intercom system and told the passengers ” Brace for impact

One survior said that after the captain made the anouncement -it was  only moments  later that the plane splashed in the water.

Captain Sullenberger past through the cabin of the down  plane twice before he himself disembarked to make sure that all the passengers were safely off the plane .
