COVID-19 UPDATE 6/12/2020

Mayor Davis has directed OEM to keep residents informed on all the latest information related to this health emergency.

Bayonne Residents CURRENTLY Positive – 517*

  • The number above reflects only the Bayonne residents that are CURRENTLY COVID-19 Positive.  We have 579 Bayonne residents that are considered recovered.  Recovered patients, according to the CDC, no longer have to isolate or be reported.  We are continuing to see a steady decline in current positive residents in the city.

THE STAY AT HOME ORDER HAS BEEN RESCINDED

GOVERNOR’S DIRECTIVES: We are all under the governance of the Executive Orders that are coming from the Governor.  As of late, there have been many changes to these orders that affect each of us.  Please go to www.covid19.nj.gov or see the Governor’s social media for the latest information.

TESTING:  There are numerous options for COVID-19 or Anitbody testing in Bayonne.  Dial 2-1-1 or go to www.covid19.nj.gov for any/all testing sites throughout the state of NJ.  Testing at Veterans Stadium has ENDED.  Anyone getting an appointment for a test by a Bayonne physician by the Bayonne Medical Center, will be tested on their property.  The BMC is also testing senior citizens at all the various senior congregate housing in the city.

MASKS:  There is no mandate by the State of New Jersey or the City of Bayonne that requires healthy individuals to wear a mask when outdoors.  Masks must be worn when in stores.

Bayonne Hometown Fair 2019

Bayonne Hometown Fair June 8th & 9th, 2019

Mayor James Davis and the Bayonne Municipal Council invites you to come and enjoy The 5th Annual Bayonne Hometown Fair on Saturday June 8th, 11am until 8pm and Sunday, June 9th at 12 noon until 6 pm.The fair will take place between 21st and 25th streets. Enjoy children’s rides, games, food, entertainment, local merchants, non-profits and so much more for the entire family .

Live entertainment will consist of two stages this year below is a list of the entertainment.

Mayor Davis Reorganizes Bayonne for Second Term

BAYONNE, NJ — Mayor Jimmy Davis is announcing that the City of Bayonne will undergo a reorganization this year with the departure of Tommy Cotter as First Ward Council Member and the request by Department of Public Works (DPW) Director Gary Chmielewski to take on a new role within the city. “I am sorry to see Tommy step down as a Council Member.  He has been a great representative for the First Ward and an outstanding advocate for the entire City. I am glad that he has agreed to take the position as the DPW Director. I am confident that he will serve the needs of the residents and will make sure that we continue to focus on the needed upgrades to our open space,” said Mayor Davis. Council Member Cotter’s resignation will take effect November 12. 

“It has been my pleasure to serve as a Council Member under Mayor Davis. I have been lucky to be part of a great Council team that has been able to kickstart development at MOTBY and invest in our parks,” exclaimed Cotter.  “I also feel honored that the Mayor has asked me to step in and head the DPW. For me, there is nothing I like better then serving my community.  I look forward to working with all of the dedicated employees and being part of the next stage of progress in this City.” Council Member Cotter was first elected in May of 2014 and has focused on the park and bridge improvements in the First Ward and throughout the City. If you’ve got a hankerin’ for some hot stuff to warm these frigid cold nights, then mark your calendar for Bayonne’s first ever Chili Cook Off Competition, where 15 professional chefs plan to do whatever it takes to walk away with the title of Best Chili Champ of Bayonne!

As temps drop to single digits, Bayonne will be heating up its pots and pans for the First Annual Chili Cook-Off Contest to be held Friday, Jan. 19th, from 6:30-11 pm at the Polish American Home on 22nd Street in Bayonne. There, residents and friends will taste the offerings of 15 qualified chefs competing for best chili recipe, but Chili Cook-Off attendees beware: this cook-off promises to bring on the hot stuff with crates of chili peppers, ladles of Cayenne and Cumin seasonings and gallons of tongue-lashing hot sauce guaranteed to set your taste-buds on fire. Frick Collection Museum Passes Available Bayonne Residents

               Mayor Jimmy Davis and Library Director Sneh Bains announced that the Bayonne Public Library has purchased four passes for free admission to the Frick Collection, located at 1 East 70th Street in Manhattan.  The Frick Collection is an internationally recognized art museum known for its distinguished Old Master paintings, such as those by Rembrandt, Bellini, Vermeer, and Goya, as well as outstanding examples of European sculpture and decorative arts.

               Library patrons may borrow the passes for a period of two nights.  You must be a current Bayonne resident with a Bayonne Public Library card in good standing to borrow the passes.  Access to the passes will be on a first-come first-served basis, and is subject to availability.

Bayonne Celebration at 16th Street Park on Earth Day, and City Wide Clean-Up

 Mayor Davis’ upcoming Earth Day Event  Saturday, April 22nd from 12:00 – 2:00 pm.

This community event combines a citywide clean-up and fun celebration for all to enjoy.    Over FORTY teams have signed up for the citywide clean-up.

The Celebration, which will occur at 16th Street Park, off Avenue A will include hot dogs, ice cream, refreshments, a blow-up slide, and a band for all to enjoy. 

Also several organizations  have agreed to host a table to offer environmental educational material and giveaways.

Bayonne Library Registration Various Programs Children’s Room  

Bayonne Public Library Holds Registration for events in Children's roomThe Bayonne Library will Hold Registration for Various Programs in the Children’s Room   was announced by Mayor Jimmy Davis, the Bayonne Public Library will have registration for Parent/Toddler Time and Preschool Storytime.  Registration for these programs will take place starting Monday, March 20, at 9:30 a.m., through Friday, March 24, or until these programs are filled, whichever comes first.  The library will start registration each day at 9:30 a.m.  All programs take place in the Children’s Room in the public library at 31st Street and Avenue C.  The Spring Session for these programs will begin on Tuesday, April 11, 2017. Cat Colony Rescued From 24th Street Home in Bayonne

 A Cat Colony was rescued recently from an abandoned home on 24th Street in Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis made the announcement recently  after receiving word from City Council Secretary Beth Polera in late 2016 that at least forty cats were living without humans in the home, Mayor Davis asked that the problem be addressed immediately.   City Community and Cultural Affairs Officer Dorothy Roszkowski, a member of the CARE Organization, set up a visit to the house with volunteers. The house, which is in foreclosure, is owned by a bank in Florida.  The bank gave permission to Roszkowski to enter the building to help the cats.  Continue reading Cat Colony Rescued From 24th Street Home in Bayonne →

Bayonne 5K and Mayors Mile Saturday, June 6th

  The City of Bayonne and Bayonne Department of Recreation will Running hold its 1st Annual “Bayonne 5K” and “Mayors Mile” on Saturday May 6, 2015 starting at 8:00 AM at the 16th Street Park in Bayonne, NJ.  There will also be a 1 mile “Fun Run” that participants are encouraged to participate in as well.  Participants of all ages and running levels are encouraged to come out and run (or walk!) Over 200 participants are expected.

Bayonne Buddy Baseball and Softball Parade May 9, 2015

The Bayonne Buddy Baseball and Softball Parade took place with Mayor James Davis and Bayonne City Council members marching with parents and children from various teams.
The Bayonne High School Band played the traditional “Take me out to the Ball Game” as the marches walked from 9th street to 11th street and then on to play their first game of the season.
