FOR 5TH ANNUAL STRIDES FOR SAFETY 5K
Free Kids Fun Run gives children ages 5-12 a chance to join the fight against gun violence
Hudson County Executive Craig Guy today announced the first-ever Kids Fun Run as part of Hudson County’s 5th Annual Strides for Safety 5K Against Gun Violence, giving children ages 5 to 12 a free opportunity to run, have fun and stand together with their community against gun violence.
The Kids Fun Run will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, at Lincoln Park in Jersey City. The addition gives families an opportunity to participate together while teaching children the importance of community, safety and looking out for one another.
“The Hudson County Strides for Safety 5K is about coming together as a community to build safer neighborhoods for everyone, and that includes our youngest residents,” said Hudson County Executive Craig Guy. “We’re excited to welcome children ages 5 to 12 to our first-ever Kids Fun Run and give them a chance to be part of this important day. When our children see their parents, neighbors, first responders and community leaders standing together for safer communities, they learn that they have a role to play too. We want every generation to know that building a safer Hudson County is something we do together.”
Now in its fifth year, Strides for Safety brings residents, families, elected officials, law enforcement and community organizations together to raise awareness about gun violence and promote safer communities throughout Hudson County.
The day will continue after the race with a community after-party featuring live music, food and activities for children, giving families and participants an opportunity to celebrate together and keep the spirit of community going beyond the finish line.
Residents are encouraged to register now for the 5K, and families are invited to sign their children up for the free Kids Fun Run.
