Jersey City Health and Human Services and Municipal Court to Launch Veterans Justce Initiative

Will CONNECT MILITARY VETERANS TO SOCIAL SERVICES

Mayor Steven M. Fulop, a U.S. Marine Veteran, will help kick off the Veterans Justice Initiative, a collaboration between the Jersey City Department of Health and Human Services and the Hersey City

Municipal Court that will aim to more directly connect the City’s military service members to social services. The Initiative will offer veteran specific services to Jersey City’s veterans and seeks to expand the City’s Veteran Services
Unit, by reaching more veterans at the centrally located Courthouse. Service providers will be available for housing, health, education and employment on a regular, monthly basis for the veteran community to access.

Bayonne to Hold Italian Night With Food and Music on Thursday, November 1

 

     Bayonne Italian night

       Mayor Jimmy Davis announced that Bayonne will hold an Italian celebration on Thursday night, November 1.  The celebration will include a dinner and band music at the Villa Maria, 417 Broadway, Bayonne, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.  The event is being presented by Mayor Davis and the Bayonne Economic Opportunity Foundation (BEOF), Bayonne’s community action agency. Mayor Davis said, “We would like to invite everyone to the second annual Italian celebration to benefit the BEOF.  It promises to be a fun occasion with great food and entertainment. This event will provide a great opportunity to enjoy Italian-American culture.  We look forward to seeing you there.”

Bayonne, NJ – Marist High School will present The Haunted High School, taking place at 1241 Kennedy Boulevard on October 26 and 27 from 6:00-10:00pm. 
 
This event is for ages 12 and up. Tickets can be pre-purchased for $10 on the Marist website at www.marist.org/student-life/haunted-house. Tickets at the door will be $12. Food and beverages to be served.
 
The Marist Parent Association and Student Council have teamed up to make this event a success. With the theme of the event being a Haunted High School, we can expect terrifying characters from our daily lives reimagined in ways we see in nightmares.  Fall brings lush color to these blustery days and one way to enjoy fall’s colorful beauty is to visit the upcoming Hoboken Art & Studio Tour, where artists will open their studios for an up-close view of their work and process.

 

On Sat & Sun, Nov. 3 & 4, from 12 noon to 6 pm, Hoboken springs to life when visitors from the Tri-State area descend on the mile-square city to check out the more than 100 artists displaying their work. Studios and public spaces will be the venues for painters who work in oils, acrylics and watercolors, sculptors, photographers, and collage-and-mixed-media artists. Bayonne’s Team Wright’s UWA Martial Arts “Breaks Record” Earns Fifteen, 1st Place A.O.K.A. World Karate Championship Titles.

                On Saturday October 13, 2018, Bayonne Team Wright’s UWA Martial Arts Bayonne and Jersey City, NJ Academies combined forces to break their previous record of fourteen 1st place Titles. Our previous record of 1st places was ten. The Tournament’s Director was Hanshi (Grand Master) Ralph Passero, 9th Dan in Isshin-Ryu and the President of the Don Nagle’s A.O.K.A. Inc. (American Okinawan Karate Association). Dr. Michael Wanko, Superintendent of the Bayonne Board of Education, is the CEO.

                Various Karate Styles of Martial Arts World Wide are invited to the 61st Annual Don Nagle’s A.O.K.A. Inc. Tournament.  Hanshi Dennis A. Wright, 1st Generation, could not make it this year however, his son Hanshi Austin Wright Sr., 2nd Generation and children Austin Jr., 5th Dan, Priscilla 3rd Dan and Gabriel 1st Dan Wright 3rd Generation of the A.O.K.A. were in attendance as well.  Team Wright Coaches were Sensei Kenneth Jackson Jr. and Sr. who attended and judged the competition to support the Tournament.

Rental Assistance Available from BEOF for Hudson County Residents

 

            The Bayonne Economic Opportunity Foundation (BEOF) currently has rental assistance funding available for qualifying residents.  The BEOF provides temporary housing assistance to individuals and families in Hudson County who are in imminent danger of becoming homeless.

            These are the eligibility guidelines:  Must have summons or warrant of removal with a docket number.  Must prove you can pay going forward.  Rent can’t be more than 50% of income.  (Example: If monthly income is $1,000, rent cannot be more than $500.)  Must be New Jersey resident – legally in the United States (Hudson County).  Applicant cannot be receiving TANF, TRA, Section 8, or SSI.  Applicant cannot be being released from jail.
